Coronavirus

Plenty of people out of work atm to temp in that position, the other option is no one working and paying tax etc

A lesser of 2 evils.

Furlough is supposed to be in place of making a position redundant.
You aren’t supposed to furlough someone and then hire someone else to keep the role going (as I understand it).
And even if an employer can find a way around the rules, which they usually do, it’s not always going to be an option as you can’t just slot someone into a role without training etc which takes time and money.

If the government recommend shielding for the vulnerable as per first lockdown, whilst the rest of the country carries on as normal, then they need to have some kind of income protection scheme in place for those who can’t work but can’t be furloughed. And legislation to prevent employers discriminating against or sacking the shielding while they are absent. That’s the only way it could even begin to work.

she would be covered under furlough if unable to work from home.

if you are not covering gyms whole nation you can cover 100 percent of those needing to shield.
Not under @scaramanga plan - her choice is quit or run the covid guantlet

Reluctantly he may a point - we may get to a point where it's focus on the lesser collateral damage; I just don't agree we are there yet, and today's vaccine progress backs that up

Wonder if he reacted any more positively to this potentially good news...

Quelle surprise.

With the amount of asymptomatic people and apparent non effect on youngsters, something must be lurking in the background.

I refer to my earlier post about the 'primary school petri dish' ...if anywhere builds up post coronavirus antibodies it's those bloody places.:)

Do all the things that make it virtually impossible to catch it - face shield, 2m distancing, ventilation, etc.

Once the risk is as low as possible, it's a personal choice whether the risk is too high or not.
That's a reasonable answer.
The issue is it requires the kind of societal discipline not present in the UK

That progress still probably means a year at least before we have vaccines in an significant numbers and probably 2-3 before widespread immunity.

Locking down only works if you have a solution the other side of it.

I can't remember the last time I couldn't have distanced myself from someone if I wanted to. It's not hard to do.

Other people may continue to spread it ingst themselves but if I were at all concerned I could avoid it.

Well the Aussies have done their damned hardest with lockdown, they have (we assume,) a robust track and trace system in place, so the test is set, if infections get out of control again there, we need to reassess the approach.

Are the numbers for this peak coming down again yet? It's all gone a bit quiet on the graph front lately.
