Jose Mourinho - SACKED

Good managers go to a club and create a spike, you can see that even if it is just a temporary show of upturn in form or some initial blood and thunder performances.

I haven’t seen that and I’m having this isn’t his team or injuries. We have played some terrible teams at home and away and the style is dreadful, I’m not expecting the world but for him to be this magnificent manager who isn’t a cheque book manager I expect more.

It’s par for the 15m a year Mourinho course unfortunately.

I make no apologies for expecting slightly more than going out the cup to crap like Norwich

In the time Mourinho has been here up until the lockdown, he had accumulated more points than any other manager apart from Klopp! And that was with a broken team, a totally unbalanced squad and long term injuries to key players. What more are you expecting?

Most of not all had been dire. Chelsea at home, Southampton, Norwich away, capitulation in the Cups, the CL showing at the end was dreadful, we just turned up to get rolled. I could name more.

It’s turgid and inconsistencies in the league apart from Liverpool doesn’t cover that.

It was even more turgid and inconsistent before - or have you got such a short memory? I recall a thrilling 5-0 victory against Burnley and several three goal victories eg West Ham and Wolves AWAY and Bournemouth at home. We made up something like 9 points on fourth place Chelsea and could have gone above them except our serial losers lost again. Southampton and Norwich were with our team decimated by injuries and suspensions.

I think you are onto something with the serial losers, it's not the manager, it's the squad.
This squad are done, as has been hinted at elsewhere I suspect even Harry is coming around to this now and weighing up his options.

It was our transfer policy that was primarily to blame imo. We didn't buy any winners. We still need warriors down our spine - although Dier's performance at CB shows we may have found one. We still need a dominating CM and a monster CF - to both back Kane up and play with him on occasion.

It’s like Mourinho said ages ago boring football is not winning anything for years. I’m bored of not winning trophies, bored of being labelled (and rightly so) bottlers. People keep talking as if we are some massive club yet never win anything - please tell me another 'big' club that has gone as long as we have without winning anything - and even then it was the least prestigious of trophies. I’d rather we play more pragmatic football and win a couple of trophies for once. When we have our players fit and firing we still play some great football, even if it is more systematic. Lo Celso, Dele,Son, Berjwign, Kane and hopefully N'Dombele eventually integrated is a very good watch regardless of Mourinho's system....

There is the problem, expectations. Klopp's excellent management has emphasised and is a constant reminder of our fall from the top.
Mourinho is not popular with fans like Poch, massive injuries and now COVID19 with all the financial problems.
it is hardly surprising fans are all over the place.

The lack of comparative finance, nothing to do with transfer policy per se.
These ’winners” need big money and our stadia has sucked that up, no matter what is said by Levi.
Now we have COVID19, it's a perfect storm and it will set us back and quite a few teams in our high mid-table group.

The table since Mourinho took over looks like this:

Points. GD
  1. Liverpool: _____49 ___+27
  2. Man C!ty: _____35 ___+18
  3. Man Utd: ______30 ___ +10
  4. Wolves: _______30 ___ +8
  5. Southampton __29 ___ +4
  6. Leicester: _____28 ___ +9
  7. Tottenham: ____28 ___ +6
  8. Sheff Utd: _____27 ___ +5
  9. Palace: ________27 ___ +2
  10. Chelsea: _______25 ___ +3
  11. Everton: _______24 ___ -4
  12. Burnley: _______24 ___ -5
  13. Saudi Sportswashing Machine: _____23 ___ -6
  14. Arsenal: _______23 ___ +1
  15. Watford: _______20 ___ -2
  16. Brighton: _______17 ___ -5
  17. Aston Villa: _____15 ___ -20
  18. West Ham: ______14 ___ -11
  19. Norwich: _______14 ___ -13
  20. Bournemouth: ___13 ___ -20
So under Mourinho in the league we are: Played 18. Points 28. 1.556 points per game. Pochettino's record prior to that was 1.167 points per game.

Mourinho's record extrapolated over a whole season is 56 points, typically that number of points would place us somewhere between 7th and 9th.

Those stats show that we are clearly more competitive under Mourinho than we were towards the end of Poch's reign.

The numbers above also either show that the middle and lower clubs in the premier league are becoming more competitive or the quality from the top 4 to 6 clubs has dropped off significantly this season, with 10 clubs all being within 6 points of each other over those 18 games.

From the above we can perhaps deduce that we might get ourselves above Sheffield United in the final league table, but not the other clubs above us currently placed 3rd to 6th.

Also really does look like we need to be choosing 3 from the 4 at the bottom to go down. We're playing one of those clubs at both the wrong end of the actual table and the form table next. I hope we try to dominate the game instead of playing a low block counter attacking game.

But of course the game isnt really played out like that. Maybe look at PPG when we have Kane and son available? As at least then your judging a team with strikers in it
Bit of course you could counter that with the argument that we were also on the ride of then new manager bounce

and for info that works out at 1.5 points per game by the way so actually less...

The game isn't really played out like what?

All teams have injuries. They have to be coped with. In the above I am showing that overall Mourinho has done ok since he came in in comparison to his peers. I am a little concerned that the football seems to have got more negative and defensive as time has gone on but maybe my perception doesn't match the reality there.

The game isn’t played out on PPG...
form fluctuates over a season and over peak periods

Ah yes agreed. 18 games is a reasonable sample size for Mourinho so far though I think..... After Tuesday's game it will be half a league season. Let's hope his PPG average after that game is 1.63.
But it meant it in comparison to others too over a season. Palace for example is skewed by better form post Christmas I believe for example

It's boring football though, isn't it? Hopefully the tugidity will be rewarded with a trophy but the football itself makes my eyes bleed.
I really can't see the turgidity leading to trophies.... In a one off semi-final/final game against a team who are probably better than us, perhaps..... The problem is using the same tactics against an inferior team like Norwich in the earlier rounds means we won't get that far.

I'm hoping that these recent tactics are a combination of being too scared to play attacking football without a number 9 (the few games before the cover enforced break) and coming up against a supposed superior team in Man Utd now that we do have number 9s available. I am a little concerned though that Mourinho feels we are an inferior team to Man Utd. That reversal in the current health of our two respective teams has come around pretty quickly.

Having a more defensive structure doesnt mean the manager has decided we are inferior to our opponent, look at Italian teams for example. Its about being strong defensively and being effective when attacking. We have scored plenty of goals under Mourinho, if the defence hadn't of produced so many stupid errors we would have been a lot better off already and Im confident Jose will of ironed a lot of these things out come next season. In fact, in subtle ways I think we are looking more solid defensively already.....

I think the individual errors is a good point. Without them we have a platform to counter the teams as they become more desperate to score. That’s said it had felt to me that we’d scored a few fortuitous goals under Mourinho so we do need to see improvement in our attacking play, notwithstanding the absence of Kane and Son.
