Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Have to say these kinds of comments from Poch don’t fill me with confidence. It almost seems like he’s using our blip to send a message to Levy, or just being genuinely defeatist and downtrodden in public, rather than doing whatever it takes to get the players to get us to top 4 this season.

Prove me wrong Poch and players!

I agree, I don’t believe it’s our limit at all, he’s in charge if he wants more from the players it’s his job to get it, if he wants to do things in a different way nobody is stopping him.

I think we have looked a bit stale this season, though I put that down to not signing anybody as opposed to Poch. Even with some decent results, I can't really say we have been playing well this season.

For me, if Poch goes, it won't be because the club don't want him, it would be because he feels he can't do any more here. And we are probably reaching that point realistically, he's kept Champions League football going for a few years in a row to guide us into the new stadium. Hopefully will do that again for this season. But there isn't really much more he can do with the club given current resources, other than win a cup.

Since we finished 2nd to Chelsea (which is the best Spurs side I have seen in my lifetime) it feels like we have been treading water. There is no area of the team that has improved since that season, it's either stayed the same or gone backwards.

I hope he stays and is given what he needs to make us really competitive. But I could definitely understand why he might be tempted to go somewhere else if a really good offer came his way.

We haven’t had a ground since then and havent really invested a penny because of that

I fully expect a refresh this summer and be it will be a positive for all involved

Can we loan dembele from this chinese team?

Winks wont be able to play every game in our very congested run in and when he doesnt play in cm we are lost there.

If not then eriksen or dele will have to play there when Winks is injured or in need of a rest.

A midfield paring out of sissoko, dier and wanyama doesnt work.

We have had some seasons under poch where we won every game towards the end havent we

The year Chelsea won the league was one I think

Yep, but was that because we already had the drop off and we’re coming out of the other side?

More importantly, this is year 5, we are supposed to be getting better.

Have we not seen a drop off in previous seasons too?

If you’ve seen efforts to mitigate and avoid that this season fair enough (and then maybe you should be the manager instead), but I haven’t.

Our current situation is entirely self inflicted.
What do you mean by drop off in previous seasons? I always thought our strength up until this season was a strong finish second half of the season....

Agreed, but it would just be so gutting if we weren’t in the CL for that refresh, especially after 3 years in a row having been in it and having such a MASSIVE lead this season.

Not if its done on the back of EL qualification.

I really think the ramifications of not getting CL to be pretty much the death-knell of this project.

Taking a look at the bigger picture we are ahead of schedule but the context of where we actually are now and the result of no CL will set us back half a decade imo

Really hope so. If we can give Poch quality to work with, he will make a great team. The team that finished 2nd to Chelsea (and only really because they had no Europe and no injuries) was a fantastic team. Improve that a bit and we could be champions. We have slid back since then, so we need a fair bit of work now to defence and midfield imo.

If we can do that, he'll stay, we'll have a great team to watch and everyone will be happy. If we don't and the quality of our squad slips further back, then I think he will be looking at the exit door.

We’ve seen both, the season Leicester won the title we only won 4 of our last 11, last season we went very patchy, from January onwards. What we’ve seen over the last month.

Just to add -- I think we need to follow the Liverpool example. They sold Coutinho as their playing style could cope without him, and re-invested the cash into areas that needed it more. We should do the same with Eriksen imo -- cash in, build the attack around Son, Dele and Kane and strengthen at right-back/wing-back, left-back/wing-back and find that Dembele replacement to dominate games in the middle of the park.

I still see us getting CL so maybe its why I see it differently

I also see us having a big amount to spend with money coming in from the sale of eriksen and Toby

And Chelsea have a ban so can’t buy

Yes, and that was fine, we did the whole play badly and win thing for a bit, but I was hoping we’d transition to playing well and confusing to win rather than getting worse and not winning.

As I said earlier we played very well mid week. We played really well first half yesterday. But I don’t know why we haven’t brought it together for 2 halves.... that’s odd

See, can’t even do it in the second half of a game or match week, let alone a season ;)

I still think we can get top 4. We might still even be third after this set of games. Three week break to reset. Most games are at home in our new stadium. I’m sure our rivals are going to drop points too,Man U at some point are due a mini slump and the others aren’t good enough to carry on winning all their games....

Some of it is the opposition. Dortmund bossed us in the first half, we scored early 2nd half and they gave up because the tie was over at that point. Yesterday, Southampton were poor first half. Their manager made two subs and gave them a kick up the arse and they had a go at us 2nd half, made chances to score (Redmond really should have had at least 1 goal imo) and scored twice. We wilted under a bit of pressure. Mainly due to the performance of our defenders not being good enough, which it hasn't been all season. Our main defensive strategy this season seems to be relying on the opposition to miss the chances they get.
