How do we know Real Madrid seriously wanted Poch? Or was it all just media speculation, ie the same level of rumours that are now being passed off on here as flimflam with the Man U job?
 
ManU should accept the reality that they are a fallen football dynasty. And everytime a football dynasty falls, they always take a long time like 20-30 years to recover. Just ask Liverpool ! Remember, ManU, despite claiming to be the world's richest and most supported club, took 25 years to win back the league title last time. They are wasting everyone's time and energy for trying to change the history this time !

Pochettino will be making a stupid mistake if he every think about going to ManU. If Mourinho can't save ManU, no one else can ! Pochettino might do permanent damage to his career if he ever tries to replace Mourinho. Just ask AVB !

Dear lord posts like this make me cringe. Man U are a fallen dynasty?! What because they haven’t won the league for a few years? Even during this woeful period by their standards they have still been collecting trophies, something during our most promising era for some years we have failed to do. It is far far too early to claim such things, and why would one of the biggest clubs in the world with their finances just accept they’re a fallen dynasty anyway? They will go and invest big in managers and players again and again until they get it right and are far more likely to get more sustained success than us....

Taking over for next season, whoever it is, the fans and board would be happy with a top 4 finish with some attacking football. They'd have to do more in subsequent seasons, but initially, that would be the bar and that is very achievable for a good coach like Poch -- especially if they were to buy £200m worth of players.

This is the perfect time to take over what is one of the world's biggest clubs, because Moyes/LvG/Mourinho have lowered the bar so much as to what constitutes a good season, at least initially. You will never get that at Barca/Madrid/Bayern. Relative to those clubs, a coach will get some time to get it right at Utd.

That's what people used to say about Liverpool who had won 11 Div.1 league titles in the 1970s and 1980s. And they have not won the league title since 1990 until now. Liverpool had won many trophies since then, including the CL, but not the league title. ManU can use all their money in the world but the football gods know what they are doing !:D

At the risk of sounding like THAT guy, I honestly dont think Simeone' style would jive for us at all.

There is a tradition at the club, and its not "win at all costs". Its "win with a certain style/intent".

Even just the style/intent without the winning has worked for us!

We arent the club Poch took over. We are consistent CL contenders, not far off of challenging for the title, with the new stadium coming imminently.

Youre post reads to me as Spurs are the club Poch took over, post Timmeh, top 6, miles behind the pack...

...We simply arent.

As much as Poch is integral to us, should he leave we really should be looking at a top level coach/manager to replace him.

I think there are clear indicators that the Utd board want a more youth oriented focus, which would suit Poch just fine.

But is Mourinho kryptonite.
 
Redknapp finished top four twice and had us in a title race until things fell apart (which, interestingly, can be traced back to Chelsea gazumping us for Cahill).

No doubt Poch has moved us on, but not drastically imo.

The difference between now and then, is IMHO, night and day.

Yes, similar league finish (arguably) but this team is far superior to Redknapps.

We are legitimately one of the best, strongest, and most formidable teams in the league.

Under Redknapp it was more like plucky under dogs on a good run that could (and did) collapse at any minute.

Yes we were good, easily best of the rest, but not really a part of the top pack.

We are now.

Absolutely it is, but we were always likely to get here imo, Poch has probably (almost certainly) expedited it, but with Levy in charge its only a matter of time before we become the ultimate power in the universe.

You are looking a United from a Spurs point of view. Now, look at them from a City standpoint. They United only want champions leagues and premierships. Fa Cups and League cups are what these wealthy teams win with because of the size and quality of their squads. ours is too thin, sadly.

I certainly agree the direction of travel was always there. I just contest the "not drastically" element of your post, for me the change is indeed drastic.

Though as I was originally trying to say, we arent that same team that took a gamble on Pochettino, now we are among the big boys.

We could get a Klopp, a Conte, Ancelotti etc. Or we could take our pick from the emerging talent.

We will be a massive attraction to any decent and ambitious manager.
