The youth players/on-loan thread 2014-2015

So Obika has finally gone then for good. Wish him well I see we kept him around into his early 20's much like we did Livermore. But I do not think he will get to the top level like Livermore has.

Gomelt is an interesting one because all I have seen of him is that game at Orient at youth level where he looked like Messi.

U15s triumphant in Copenhagen

Posted by Tottenham Hotspur on 4 September 2014 - 07:15
A successful recent period for our youth sides continued when our Under-15s won the Crown Plaza International Under-15 Tournament in Copenhagen.

Following a dramatic penalty shootout victory against Sevilla in the semi-finals – in which makeshift goalkeeper Oliver Skipp made a match-winning save – the lads secured the silverware with a 2-1 triumph against Danish outfit Naesby in the final.

The players received a standing ovation from the healthy crowd in attendance, with Tashan Oakley-Boothe earning the Player of the Tournament award following a series of fantastic performances.

Proceedings began for us with a tough group stage opener against a very physical FC Angered side from Sweden, with a well-executed long range strike from Nya Kirby and a second half header from Rodel Richards giving us a 2-0 win.

Following a goalless draw in our second game against FC Nordsjaelland, we booked our place in the knockout stages by despatching host club FC Kastrup 3-1, Cheyce Grant (2) and Kane Thompson-Sommers on target.

Our semi-final against Sevilla ended goalless, with the heroics of stand-in stopper Skipp earning us a spot in the final. As the end-to-end contest entered its final moments, goalkeeper Lucas Heiler was adjudged to have handled the ball outside his area in a one-on-one situation and was duly dismissed.

Defender Skipp took over between the sticks as the game went to a best of three penalty shootout and, after TJ Eyoma, Kirby and Tariq Hinds netted for us, he saved the Spanish side’s third spot kick to send us through.

There was more penalty drama in the final. Taking on Naesby, who won the tournament last year, Oakley-Boothe was fouled in the box with Kirby scoring from the rebound after his spot kick was saved.

Naesby equalised quickly, but a fine long-range effort from Jeremie Mukendie sealed a 2-1 win and saw our lads crowned champions.

Our Under-16s also tasted success recently as they won the South Korea Cup in the Far East.

U18s to face Real Madrid and Everton in Champions Cup
The youth teams of Real Madrid and Benfica are among those descending on our Training Centre today as we host the Premier League Champions Cup.

The showpiece event features six Under-18 teams, four from the UK including ourselves, competing in a two-day tournament with some of Europe’s top young players doing battle.

With the Group Stage of the tournament taking place today, we’ve been drawn in Group A alongside Real Madrid and Everton – the latter side having secured a narrow 1-0 win against us in last season’s Barclays Under-18 Premier League play-offs.

Group B consists of Liverpool, West Ham United and Benfica.

Highlights from the England U21 match. Given some of what I had read I was expecting a highlights reel of our lads looking out of their depth. In actual fact I think the young England players looked quite good in this vid and they created some good chances. 1:37ish shows a beautiful Tom Carroll pass. Kane's goal is at 2:30.

The full match is on the internet too:

The U18 Champions Cup highlights are on the OS now

Coached by Kieran McKenna (ex youth player)

I see Ledley is "working with the U18s now" but he is fannying about in the far east with Ossie whilst the lads won a cup against Real Madrid!

Here is a random article to waste some time while you wait for real football to start again:

McKenna turns attention to coaching after injury ends playing career

Published: 12 Mar 2009 12:000 comments

Former Enniskillen Town player Kieran McKenna is keen to stay in football after having to call an end to his blossoming professional career due to a persistent hip injury.

Kieran McKenna who is calling time on his soccer playing career due to injury.
The talented midfielder has been on the books of Tottenham Hotspur for the past seven years but after two years of injury misery, and after receiving medical advice following hip surgery, he has taken the decision to end his professional playing career.
The talented midfielder built a big reputation at Enniskillen Town, Ballinamallard Youth and as captain of the Fermanagh Milk Cup junior side, and he joined the Premier League club in 2002 on a scholarship before turning professional in August 2003. He progressed well through the ranks at the North London club and was part of the side that won the Barclay"s Premier League South in 2005-06, captaining the team on a number of occasions while he also captained Northern Ireland at U21 level as well as representing his country at U14, U16, U19 and U20.
However, the hip problem stopped him pushing on for first team recognition at Spurs and he says that in the end he had no choice but to call it a day.
'Obviously I"m very disappointed as I have a lot of unfilled ambitions but at the same time I have had seven good years at Tottenham which I have thoroughly enjoyed. Over the past two years though I have had two operations and two years of intensive rehab and it got to the stage where I did everything humanly possible and I just had to make the decision,' he said.
McKenna though is not about to sit around and feel sorry for himself. He is already planning the next stage of his life with the aim being to get involved in coaching, while he has received an unconditional offer to attend Loughborough University later this year to study Sports Science.
You see, while he was at Tottenham he continued on with his studies and completed his A-Levels receiving two A grades.
'I"m definitely glad that I got those now and I"ll be going to Loughborough to study Sports Science. My aim is to stay in football although it will be from a different aspect,' said McKenna.
In the immediate future Kieran, whose contract at Tottenham ends this season, is doing his coaching badges and is also helping out with coaching at Tottenham.
'My contract runs out soon and I"ll be getting physio support until the end of the season. It is two months since my operation so I"m still doing rehab and I"m also coaching some of the younger teams at Tottenham so that is keeping me busy while the club is also putting me through my coaching badges. In the summer I hope to do some coaching abroad and Tottenham have put me in touch with people in the US,' said McKenna.
He added: 'I"ve had seven years as a professional footballer and I"ve made a lot of good contacts. I"ve a lot of good friends on the coaching staff and the playing staff at Tottenham and I"ll stay in contact with everyone and I"m sure they will come in useful in the future.'
And Kieran would eventually like to help other locals to make it as professionals.
'Hopefully I"ll be involved in football back home and be able to try and get others across the water,' he said.
The midfielder obviously made a big impression at Tottenham who have been keen to help him with the direction he now wants to take, and Development Coach Clive Allen spoke highly of Kieran on the club website.
'He is a player and person that you know every single day, whether training or playing, was 100 percent committed about everything he did.
'That is why it is so disappointing and sad that he suffered an injury that has curtailed his career. Knowing the lad and the type of person he is, he will do very well in whatever he decides to do.
'We will look to help him in any way we can, but it is with real sadness that I talking about him like this because I loved the character of the person and commitment. I have to say that you wouldn"t go far wrong if you had 11 of the Kieran McKenna-type in your team,' said Allen.
A determined and committed character, who is also intelligent and articulate, don"t be surprised if Kieran rises to the top of the game as a coach.

I watched the full 90 mins from the England U21 game and even without my Spurs bias, Tom Carroll was the best player on the pitch. He played in the most advanced role of a midfield three and became more and more influential as the match wore on. Early in the second half he played a couple of beautiful passes which took out half of the Lithuanian team only for the forward collecting the pass to have his shots saved. When Kane came on he dropped back alongside Ward-Prowse with Ince moving into the #10 slot and England instantly looked worse for it, losing all fluidity through the middle of the pitch. It wasn't until we subbed off Ince and Redmond for Pritchard and Hughes that we regained some of that fluidity. Pritchard looked sharp although as with his appearance for Spurs last year, he came into a team not looking to attack and as such saw limited involvement although he still flashed a shot wide of the post.

A word on the Lithuanian's. They sat back with 11 men behind the ball for most of the game. There are various news sites out there reporting the game as if England were very poor, when in fact they were up against a team who had parked the bus and looked to hit on the counter.

Our Barclays Under-21 Premier League fixture away to Norwich City on Tuesday, October 14, has been selected for live TV coverage on BT Sport.

The match, to be played at Carrow Road, will now kick-off at 7.45pm

Kane scored and claimed an assist as England Under-21s beat Moldova in Euro U21 qualifying this evening. Carroll also played 90 minutes and captained the team, Pritchard earned his second U21 cap as a late sub.

I think I saw somewhere that Obika scoring two for Swindon today :)

But he was sold to Swindon, so no longer for this thread.

On the other hand Coulthirst got a nice one, late off the bench but rounded 2 players and shot across keeper. Football league show loop runs until noon on red button, freeview ch 601
