The Injury Thread - 2011-12

VAN DER VAART EYES DERBY RETURN

Tottenham forward Rafael van der Vaart is confident he is winning his race to be fit for this weekend's north London derby at Arsenal.

Van der Vaart has missed Spurs' last three games since hobbling off with a calf injury during the 3-1 win over Wigan last month.

The Dutchman, who has scored nine goals for his club this season, will return to full training on Wednesday, however, and hopes to be involved in Sunday's Barclays Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium.

"I'm recovering well from my injury," Van der Vaart told his official website.

"I expect to be joining the team training next Wednesday after which I will start to focus on the match against Arsenal. I'll be happy to play Arsenal. I can't wait."

Spurs already have a number of injury worries ahead of this weekend's clash.

Emmanuel Adebayor twisted his knee in training and could miss out on a return to his former club while Benoit Assou-Ekotto underwent a groin operation last week and is a major doubt for the match.

Luka Modric missed last weekend's 0-0 draw at Stevenage due to illness, but he is expected to recover in time for the trip across north London.

Tottenham missed their injured stars as they laboured to a draw in their FA Cup fifth-round tie at the Lamex Stadium on Sunday, but Van der Vaart is backing the club to overcome the npower League One side in the replay.

He added: "Of course it's a pity we didn't win. I'm convinced we will be able to defeat Stevenage in our home game and will reach the next round of the FA Cup."

Emmanuel Adebayor @Sheyiadebayor

Just finished training, really happy with the progress, knee is looking much better. Working on my fitness for Sunday

Why is Van der Vaart constantly in a race to be fit?

Have the physio team at Spurs actually noticed this?

Maybe he's one of the rare breed of footballers who actually wants to play rather than sitting on his backside drawing ?ú80k a week for doing nothing.

Actually by constantly racing to be fit and pushing himself with the Dutch physio dingdong "short term fix" van Toorn he's more likely to spend time on his arse picking up wages

That will be from the well known Dutch family dingdong van Toorn-Hamstring, appropriately enough

I think/hope VDV will get proper treatment on his hammy this summer. He's becoming like Ledley - if we're lucky, he'll be fit to play

Here's the news from this morning's press conference:

Redknapp says Adebayor and Modric 'will hopefully be okay'

Assou-Ekotto has trained this week and is fine, and Redknapp said he's sure Van der Vaart will be fit. He's also been training.

I asked Redknapp about Sandro on his way out. He said he's not available. 'He's not ready yet'.

Would say there is a massive difference between Kos and either Djourou or Squilaci (?).

There is a massive difference, but i still feel kos isn't a world class defender. He will most likely struggle against Lennon, Bale, VDV and Ade.

Then again there are probably not many defenders who wouldn't... Plus if Vermaelen ends up at left back who partners him?

why is this not stickied? anybody have a complete list of current injuries?

was wondering if Kranjcar was out or not
