Son Heung-Min

That is simply wrong. He has scored 19 goals this season in all competitions.. yet you say that other than the 5 at the start and the most recent 5 he has scored 3. So you are missing 6 goals from between those 2 great runs of form he had.

Son has made 33 appearances this season in which he has played for more than 5 mins.

Of those 33 he has either scored or assisted in 13. For comparison purposes:

Son has scored or assisted in 13 out of 33 games (39.3% of games). Many of which he only played 45 mins.
Eriksen has scored or assisted in 18 out of 42 games (42.8% of games). Most of which he played the full 90 mins.
Alli has scored or assisted in 23 out of 43 games (53.4% of games) . Most of which he played the full 90 mins.
Kane has scored or assisted in 17 out of 31 games (54.8% of games). Most of which he played over 70 mins.

If you look at it in terms of impact per minutes on the pitch though it looks like:

Alli with a goal or an assist every 125.8 minutes in all competitions this season.
Eriksen with a goal or an assist every 108.75 minutes in all competitions this season.
Son with a goal or an assist every 99.8 minutes in all competitions this season.
Kane with a goal or an assist every 78.3 minutes in all competitions this season.

The 6 missing goals are in the FA Cup against a 12th place Championship team, 6th place League one team, 13th place League two team.
You can manicure his stats all day by including them but it doesn't reflect how he actually performed in the Premier League and Champion's League through most of the season.

It's an interesting case. Son brings energy, a fantastic burst of pace* and direct dribbling into the box. All that you could possibly want to bring on at 60 or 70 minutes and spice up a game -- especially against tired defenders used to dealing with Kane or Janssen.

* Burst, not sustained. He's not going to make Bale-style lung bursting runs, but he's pretty damn quick over 10 yards.

On the other hand, Son can also change games in the first few minutes with an early goal -- or at least, put defenders on the back foot immediately, therefore setting the tone. And how much better are we when we go 1-0 up in the first 20 minutes?

We can't bring him on for the first 10 and last 20, so what do we do? This is where we need an in-form GKN or Sissoko to come on as the impact sub. I think that's the one thing we're missing from our armoury. When Winks is fit, he's the perfect sub to bring on and control a game that's in danger of running away. I do think he'll grow into more, but that's for another thread. But we only have Son as a proper impact sub.

Regardless of when he plays well or poorly it remains a fact that since joining Spurs, 23 of Son's 27 goals in all competitions have come from games he started.

No question he can also be very handy as an impact player coming off the bench but those stats suggest he can also be pretty damn useful when he starts.

Let's also remember that his overall minutes-per-goal record in the PL this season is currently bettered by only four of the PL's top 25 scorers, one of whom is our very own Harry Kane. That is a fantastic return from someone who is not an out-and-out striker himself but mainly plays out wide in a supporting role.

I agree he underperformed in the CL, but not in the pl:

vs CL teams:

Kane with a goal or an assist every 131.5 minutes in CL games this season.
Alli with a goal or an assist every 177.3 minutes in CL games this season.
Eriksen with a goal or an assist every 451 minutes in CL games this season.
Son with a goal or an assist every 424 minutes in CL games this season.

vs Top Teams in League (Chelsea, Emirates Marketing Project, Liverpool, Man united, Arsenal - in other words current top 6):

Alli with a goal or an assist every 120.8 minutes against ‘Top Teams’ in Prem this season.
Son with a goal or an assist every 214.5 minutes against ‘Top Teams’ in Prem this season.
Eriksen with a goal or an assist every 230.3 minutes against ‘Top Teams’ in Prem this season.
Kane with a goal or an assist every 303 minutes against ‘Top Teams’ in Prem this season.

A goal is a goal is a goal. Just cos you don't like him and do everything you can to denigrate him by massaging his stats to try and suit your case doesn't make it so. Son has been magical and often our game changer in tight games. He has scored some vital goals.

How many better players than him in the league? When you consider him as a bench player I would say that we are fortunate to have him.

Small changes in his game will see him undroppable as some argue is the case now.

Kane injured? No problem he had stepped in like his mate Wimmer did last year.

The focus and drive from a bench player puts his stats into perspective. Immense.

This, people want to go down the stats route ...

- Take out pure strikers in the PL/all comps over the last two years, rank Son against that

he's actually slightly out performing Alli for both goals and assists based on per 90 minutes

What a great signing. And when you consider he's from South East Asia via Germany he settled in exceedingly quickly.

Myth my arse. If you've paid attention to how he has actually performed over the season and not went straight to some stats website and picked 6 FA Cup goals to 'prove' your point.

Son started off the season in top form. Then after the October international break his form completely fell away until the start of this month.

During this period of 21 league games he'd start games and look anonymous. Poch would sub him after seeing him fail to make even a single tackle or interception.
Then in the next game he'd sub him on at the end, Son would sometimes change the game only to start the next game and look anonymous.

He scored 3 goals in this period.

Yes he's in form now (5 goals in 4) and was in form at the start of the season(5 goals in 6) but that doesn't reflect the Son we saw most of the year - 3 goals from 20 league games + CL games.

24 year old attacking midfielder in his second season at the club in inconsistency shocker. His poorer run coming at a time when we as a team struggled more with our overall play too. Many were getting on other player's backs at that time too.

Been a massive step up from last season. Not a surprise. Hopefully over the next couple of years he'll step up another level. Already a very good player.

At least people have stopped saying we should replace him with Berahino.
