Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I've been told this evening, not by someone at the club I hasten to add, that the reason why the current official Spurs stance is no comment is because we are reviewing legal options regarding Real Madrid's conduct. The guy who told me has a box at the Lane, but I take it with a pinch of salt that he'd have any insider knowledge but that does kind of make sense as to why, even with the increasing pressure, we aren't coming out and saying he definitely isn't for sale. But it's also logical speculation that Levy would be looking at legal options.

I would laugh long and hard if this was true

Re: Gareth Bale

The thing is you gotta see it through the eyes of the Board. There are risks. 90m NOW or risk having it at 60m because Bale may not have another season like the last, he may get an injury, Madrid may go for someone else (another ceam of the crop) etc. These risks are considered by the Board. There are positives in keeping Bale too - with him we can go for the league, with him our global attraction is at a higher level etc.

90m is a great deal of money I mean a brickload of money though and even us fans wouldnt blame the Board if they took it. I wouldnt blame them for sure.

record breaking deal. no brainer. how many transactions like this are there going to be, especially with the ffp coming up and all.

Re: Gareth Bale

From the Sun : REAL MADRID were last night preparing a jaw-dropping £95million bid to finally snatch Gareth Bale from Tottenham.
SunSport has learnt the Spanish giants will offer £51m cash plus £25m-rated Angel Di Maria and £19m Fabio Coentrao in what insiders described as the deal of the century.

Sell sell sell if true

it is not really a 95m bid because those players though good are not what we would pay for them, 95m in cash would be pretty amazing but i would hold onto bale for another season if it were down to me.

a) Would they want to join and
b) I imagine their wages would be large, certainly significantly higher than Bale is on now or would be on even with a new contract.

and £51m?!? Life goes on... lol

Na they are clearly not realistic. We couldn't even get Sahin to join us. Plus I'd prefer to see Bale.

Tell Madrid to go fudge themselves.

Re: Gareth Bale

I know some people on here think that maintaining silence is best...... I also agree it might be the best thing right now....especially if we are considering legal action....

my concern is actually Bale.......the pressure he must be under.....whats best for his family.........career.........his brain must feel battered with all this crap going on.......he must be mentally exhausted........

Madrid have been relentless.........I think it would be best for the player if something gives soon......and I don't mean levy just giving in and getting the most cash for us.....

also it worried me as Paulinho was signed under the pre-text bale wont be sold....paulie said this himself.....I would worry about his thoughts as well if we suddenly decided to sell.

Gareth not that you will ever read this but here goes ' thanks for being the best player ive seen play live for the team I support.....Thanks for the terrific performances and memories you have given me.......jumping around like an idiot after your wonder goals with my 12 year old daughter..... in my opinion you deserve to play at the top level as this befits your qualities..... I love you playing for spurs Gareth.....please find it in your heart to stay.........

There we go......I don't care if people rip it....... want him to stay stay STAY!!!

Yes let Real save up their pocket money, and come back when they can back up their ambitions with hard cash. Otherwise, tell the world they do not have the funds available. I respect Levy never or rarely commenting on all this speculation. But sometimes you want us to publicly fight back. Not sure how much good it would do tho :)

Re: Gareth Bale

Would be funny but not sure what repercussions could be laid upon Madrid if we did take legal action.

Probably none knowing the sway RM seem to have but it would be a funny way to break up our 'special relationship'.

All is currently ok stop stressing.

I hope this is spot on

Re: Gareth Bale

It's probably flimflam, but I'd snap their hands off for 50 million plus DiMaria + Coentrao. Get Soldado in and maybe one more (Bernard?), and our team is the best its ever been, IMO.

That side would challenge for the title.

Re: Gareth Bale

What tinkles me off about these articles are that Levy ultimately cannot win with these idiots. On one hand he is denying Bale/Modric/Carrick/Berba their dream moves. On the other hand he is a selling man and "it's money and mark-up that talk to Levy". Prats.

Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale collected possession, shifted the ball on to his left foot, drifted inside and crunched a wonderful 25-yard shot past the Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. It was the Tottenham Hotspur player's last act of a breathtaking season and, briefly, hope crackled around White Hart Lane.

Tottenham had the goal that they wanted to beat Sunderland on the final day. Now all they needed was for Saudi Sportswashing Machine to deny Arsenal at St James' Park and they would be back in the Champions League. One of the spin-offs would be that Bale would stay at White Hart Lane.

The line had been peddled hard over the second-half of the season, with the zeal coming from the Tottenham manager André Villas-Boas. At times, it felt as though the mission to keep Bale was the primary storyline in N17, however strange that might sound.

Arsenal, though, did not falter. They closed out their own 1-0 win over north-east opposition and the established order did not change. Arsenal prolonged their proud record of qualifying for the Champions League; Tottenham were cast back into the Europa League. The players' post-match lap of honour fell flat.

"Good luck in Spain, Gareth," shouted one fan, close to the tunnel. They already feared the worst.

Nobody will ever know whether a top-four finish might have sated Bale for another season, convinced him that his club of six years was worth another roll. The Wales forward had surely revelled in wearing Tottenham's colours in their only Champions League campaign to date in 2010-11, when his performances against both of the Milan clubs catapulted him to global prominence.

It was when Real Madrid and Internazionale, among others, first began plotting to prise him away. Could Bale be swayed by the sentiment; the raw emotion of a floodlit White Hart Lane on a grand European night?

The cold, hard truth for Tottenham fans, however, is that Real, who have indicated a readiness to pay a world record fee of €100m for Bale, offer rather more than late-season squeezes to fourth-placed finishes and plucky Champions League adventures. If Bale merely wanted regular Champions League football, he could move to Celtic.

The 24-year-old wants more. He wants to experience a super club, which can compete for the biggest prizes and to test himself at the top level of club football; perhaps, as he is mindful that his country will always struggle to qualify for the major tournaments. And for Bale, the dream has always been Real.

He spoke warmly of the club before he faced them at the Bernabéu with Tottenham in the 2011 Champions League quarter-final, first-leg and it was a sound-bite from that interview which has resonated.

"I'm not afraid to leave the country," Bale said. "I left home at 15 [to join Southampton's academy]. If I leave the Premier League, I'll learn another language … I will grow as a person."

Bale has sometimes been caricatured as a shy, homeboy from Cardiff but it is wide of the mark. He is at the heart of the dressing-room repartee; always dishing out the stick and his composure in interviews and public speaking engagements has become notable.

He was the picture of relaxed confidence when he was interviewed on stage after accepting his Football Writers' Association Player of the Year award last May. Bale knows what he wants. And right now, it is a move to Real.

Can Tottenham keep him? There is no doubt that they would love to and they are resolved to do everything possible. Villas-Boas gave Bale a freer role in the team towards the end of last season, as a marauding No10, and the bond between manager and player is strong. It has been possible to see them more as friends over the past 12 months, as they have even socialised together.

Then, there is the chairman Daniel Levy who, it is fair to say, is not among Bale's nearest and dearest at present. The supreme negotiator has declined to entertain any kind of offer for Bale, even those that must surely bring a tear to his eye, and his refusal to sell the midfielder Luka Modric to Chelsea for £40m two summers ago is evidence that he means what he says.

On the other hand, he finally sold Modric to Real last summer and, despite posturing over Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Carrick, they also got their transfers to Manchester United. In the end, it's the money and mark-ups that talk to Levy, rather than the pleas from players about opportunity and career progression.

He paid an initial £5m to take Bale from Southampton in 2007 and his margins now stand to be dizzying. Levy's stance faces an excruciating test.

Re: Gareth Bale

I hate to say it. But the Gooners always got better after selling their marquee players. They re-invested in more quality players to take the level of the whole team up a notch. If we signed Bernard, Di Maria, Contrao, Soldado and lets one other striker we would have a very strong side indeed. Maybe they would even give us back Modders ;)

Re: Gareth Bale

And it would be the end to all this nauseating speculation. Great players want to win, and while losing Bale is a downer, replacing them with real quality in four/five key areas would be immense. No more unbalanced, one-man team.
