Clinton N'Jie

But there's no evidence to suggest that Levy is low balling clubs. No club has come out and said "We've rejected a derisory bid from Tottenham".

I take it you never saw this then:

"We have had an offer from Tottenham of £250,000 which we received on Saturday afternoon. Then it was upped to £500,000 on Monday morning," said Moyes, who will be in north London tonight, when his team face Arsenal in the Premier League. "I think that is insulting. It was £250,000 on Saturday afternoon when I was leaving the ground and they upped it to £500,000 on Monday morning. That was £250,000 now and £250,000 paid in a year's time.

"There is no reaction to that. I think an offer like that for Everton's captain is a disrespectful offer to the club and I think it is a disrespectful offer for a player of Phil's qualities. I could understand it if he had six months to go on his contract, but he has 18 months to go and he has played more or less every game for Everton this season."

I do not think there is a club around ( except maybe City and Chelski) who do not go in low and then high when trying to complete a transfer. So whatever Moyes may/may not have said its not anything different to what happens elsewhere.

Ur right but surely a buying club had a fair idea off agent or informal chats with selling club what it takes to buy such a player ?? Again I don't know how clubs go about talking to submitting bids butsureky one of first questions is how much do u want for njie .. They give a of figure of 15m€ and we go in with 7€ plus add ons ?? That's not going to get deal done .. It's a total slow process with Spurs .. It's dragged leaked and shat on by the media and fans before we get any sort of conclusion .. We might get there in end with players but my whole point was getting good exciting pacy players in which increases chances of getting points on table rather than the hope is shaving €€€ off price the longer u leave it

Whether you believe it or not it does happen that way at most clubs.

Well my argument is united needed midfielders , arsenal needed goalkeeper , Liverpool needed players all over , city needed English players .. Even lesser clubs needed players in different areas and majority got them in good or bad .. I just still don't understand why we have not improved midfield or forward areas in any capacity this summer .. ? I know wages money to burn with some and cl with bigger clubs but that's no excuse ! Berahino , njie Werner and I'm sure plenty of cm players available better than what we have and players very gettable so im just disappointed more than anything not surprised !! The reason we haven't bought anyone is done to brinkmanship , ego and the hope of saving money , no other reason in these areas

I didn't actually :). A £250k reduction is a bit of a pittance when players are exchanging hands for millions although it is significant in percentage terms. We also don't know what he thought was a fair valuation of Phil Neville. Sounds more like a soundbite to let everyone know that he values that player more than we did.

We finished 5th last year which is realistically our likely best position (not saying we shouldn't aim higher).

We have retained all our best players (unlike some of our direct rivals)
We have strengthened our defence (seeing as we had the worst defensive record in the top half of the table)
We have some exciting potential coming through in Alli, Pritchard, Carroll etc

Where is the excessive need to go shopping?

Yes, we can improve but not by the Liverpool scattergun approach. We (you & me) have NO idea whether Njie or Werner would actually improve our squad let alone our first team so how can you or I sit here and say a) whether we should buy them & b) whether Levy is being 'tight' by not paying what their club wants as we have no actual idea of how much they are actually worth to us?

I think the point is that it's not just about shaving a few quid off the price of a deal; that generally is built in to the way it works, but other parties are involved, and they aren't necessarily going to cooperate, never mind do so to your timetable.

You can say you're setting this or that deadline, but if they think they've got a good chance of better options, they're just going to tell you to jog on, then. All you've done is make yourself look like a 5-year-old kid in the corner, stamping his feet, and before you know it, you'll have exhausted all your options and got nowhere.

Ask yourself why the majority of transfer activity is carried out towards the end of the window. Your answer ought to be something along the lines of, "Because most clubs' negotiators don't behave in the way I've suggested."

I'm sure we would love to get all our business done as early as possible and have everything all our own way, but that's just not how it works unless you're one of the CL elite. Sometimes not even then.

90% of transfers are done towards the close of the window. Why do you think we should be any different?
I think that 90% figure is a bit exaggerated. Iirc, so far PL teams have spent £500m in transfers. Does that mean that there will be another £4.5 billion spent in the the coming weeks? Of course not. I think the correct statement would be that more money is spent on a per day basis in the final 2-3 weeks than in the rest of the transfer window. Would be interesting to see any tables on that, if someone has therm handy.

I was talking number of transfers rather than money spent but I take your point. I'd be interested in seeing some data on it at the close of the window, I might even have a stab at compiling it for Premier League transfers.

So a lot of crappy players moving at the end of the window? :)

Lyon playing Sunday night so we will know a lot more then I think if a transfer is close .. Maybe same with berahino as they don't play till Monday night but maybe needs must with them as I doubt rondon might be not signed in time !? If both out we know we very close then

The problem with that is that Lamlea and Townsend have not been good enough and Lamela looks like it will be a similar story this year. By not good enough I mean awful. Dembele is pretty hit and miss and Eriksen goes through periods where he is in and out of form. I like Chadli but he does not impact games enough.

Also there is little to no genuine pace there and we offer very little threat in behind. All forwards behind the striker struggle to take people on and they dont stretch defences or make runs beyond the ball. Therefore we rely on people hitting goals from 20 yards out as we lack any real threat and most of our play is in front of defences.

A number 9 and a forward are desperately needed.
.

This has been an issue since Redknapp left.

This is the player Poch wants on the left, and judging by today, you can clearly see why. Would've potentially offered us the difference between 0-1 and 2-1, 3-1?
Not sure about that. I don't think it was Chadli's fault. It was Darmian who was immense. When he came out we were much more active on the left.

I hate Chadli. I really do. He is pants. Twice today he was in a good attacking position, twice he had the chance to get a dangerous ball into the box. het gets mugged by Smalling and the other time the cross was useless. The guy never beats a defender. He flaters to deceive that he is good in the air. He has no real pace or ability.

I know I know. Im going to hear about him getting goals. Well for a striker its all about goals. For a wide forward he has to worry their defence, set up some chances and score goals. Him and Lamela are so easy to deal with by opposition defences its untrue. Cant wait to see Pritchard get a chance. And if we sign Berahino we can send both of them to the bench.
