AVB Press Conference

maybe it was a quick interview before the press conference

there could be some technical problems what with it being a new facility and that maybe delaying things or stopping a live broadcast altogether

Or Sky didn't want an impartial version of events getting out to the people.

Sky guy just said that AVB said that clubs in touch regarding Modric

if we get a few more signings in before Modric returns from holiday, he might just have a change of heart and want to stay especially if the interested clubs dont come up with the necessary moolah to buy him

thanks for those quotes

glad about Carroll, not what we need right now. Good mention of Redknapp, nice respect there, and it does look like Modric more than likely is on his way. Shame he didnt want to be part of AVB's time here for a season at least

AVB tells media "clubs have shown interest in Modric but up to chairman to deal with them". Also "looking at Moutinho with some interest"

Where's my medal? AVB says HE should get credit for Chelsea's Champions League win, and vows to make Spurs title winners

Portuguese boss also admits Luka Modric is likley to leave, but is hopeful of completing a permanent deal for Emmanuel Adebayor

Andre Villas-Boas today unveiled his Spurs vision - and admitted he has regrets at being kicked out of Chelsea.

The Portuguese was unveiled as Harry Redknapp's White Hart Lane successor at the club's new £45million training complex near Enfield this afternoon.

And the 34-year-old maintained he is the right man to move Tottenham in the direction set out by chairman Daniel Levy.

Villas-Boas, sacked by the Blues in March and who saw the squad he left behind win the Champions League and FA Cup under his previous assistant Roberto Di Matteo, said: "I came here to restore my reputation and take the club forward.

"I want to show that I have learned from what I did wrong.

"What happened at Chelsea was not the failure of a single person. I would say that I put in place a squad for the future of that club.

"I respect the decision that Chelsea made. But I still don't agree with it, or accept it.

"I was honoured I could put that team together and I would say that some of what they achieved was down to me. But now I must move on."

He added: "Now I need to continue the quality work Harry left us. My aim is to get Spurs challenging for the title.

"We must bridge the gap between us and the top although the belief was there last season.

"The expectation is to win something in the near future. This club is growing with the training ground and the new stadium project."

Villas-Boas gave a clear hint that he expects to lose Croatian schemer Luka Modric but, having already signed Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen, is also hopeful of landing Porto's Joao Moutinho and agreeing a permanent deal with Emmanuel Adebayor.

"Luka is a tremendously important player and the interest in him shows that," he said. "I respect his ambitions and his willingness to move on. The discussions continue.

"It will not be easy to part company with him and only if we receive the right offer will we take this step. But clubs have shown interest and it's up to the chairman to deal with it.

"Joao Moutinho is an interesting target and as for Adebayor, I would be lying if I said we are not looking for a striker. He is on the list."

Former Tottenham midfielder Steffen Freund has been named as the club's assistant head coach under new manager Villas-Boas.

"We are delighted to announce the appointment of former player Steffen Freund as our new Assistant Head Coach," the club said in a statement.

"Steffen became a popular figure amongst our supporters after joining the club in 1998 from Borussia Dortmund, spending five years at White Hart Lane and was part of our League Cup winning side of 1999.

"He made a total of 120 appearances in our colours and has since been inducted into the club's Hall of Fame."

Freund has coaching experience at international level, having led German youth teams at under-16 , under-17 and under-20 level, and working as an assistant to Berti Vogts with Nigeria.

I see the Mirror found the single most important thing he said and ran it as their headline. ](*,)
