OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses will get us to 70 points now. Win against Bournemouth, and we will have guaranteed ourselves the luxury of going through lower mid-table form over the last seven games (2 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses) and still hitting our target: alternatively, win against Bournemouth and 73 points, a record points total, could be achieved with upper mid-table/top-four form (3 wins, 3 draws, one defeat). Of course, I'm including the draws there just to even out the necessary distributions: lopsided results could also get us there (I.e, three wins, no draws and four losses, or four wins and three losses for 73 points).

when was the last time a central defender was player of the season in the whole league?

I am guessing Marhez will get it for the league but toby has changed our team so much he deserves it hands down in my opinion.

I can't remember a defender ever getting it but he has helped us get a 23 goals swing like for like in our Gd.... That's a phenomenal improvement by anyone's standards

All the players linked with POTS are attack minded but we have changed our team by becoming better defensively

Seems we've made friends thanks to our away supporters singing anti-Lerner songs.

I was there, and quite often the away fans were just generally supporting Villa in anything they did. So dire a team, never quite seen anything like it.

(I was there posing as a Villa fan as can't get away tickets but live in Birmingham area...)

big banana skin avoided there, no such thing as a certainty as Emirates Marketing Project found out yesterday, the best time to score other than with the last kick of the game is right before half time. I think we can dispel any doubts about Harry and the mask now.
Delighted with the clean sheet even if it was a tad lucky in the end, our goal difference is ticking along nicely again, that extra point could be a league winner.

Interestingly, no-one has noticed that we lost our bearings

a) after Eriksen went off (and this despite one of his softer games) and
b) with Carroll and Mason on

We switched off. It happens. Had they got one we'd have got a third I am sure. That last 10 minutes must've been horrible because let's face it, the game was won and it's all about being professional and seeing it out, a place where we are still gathering experience. But we got it done. So all good.

As I feared, Villa did come to play today (TV cameras, players auditioning for other gigs, etc) and we needed to be on form to win. No gimmes in the Prem.

I hope Poch annoys the whingers by choosing another 'squad' side Thursday. We have 8 cup finals left. We can do this, but by GHod it will be tough because some of the boys are knackered. Let us remember that Dele Alli is NINTEEN - I doubt that loan-back to MK Dons prepared him fuly for this sort of season!

COYS!
The Eriksen sub makes me wonder if Poch will play a fairly strong side against Dortmund?

We list our shape as we had too many CMs running into each other.
Also, we don't actually mark our man touch tight. It was Toby who lost Lescotta Dier lost Gestede, while Lescott was totally unmarked in the same move at the back post.
Also, it seemed to me that Demebele was running on fumes.

I have noticed that we play worse when Mason comes on!! I dont know why!

By the time I get back from games theses threads are too long so I just read the after match views...I hope the same panic during the game wasn't here as it was from a few at Villa Park...with the constant moaning by some you'd think we were in Villa's position.

I understand the nerves around, myself included but when there is literally no atmosphere that can get through to the players quite easily.

An early goal would have been great and to be fair Kane should have scored but I didn't think going in at 0-0 was that bad. Villa setup to defend out of the fear of another hiding and surely had to come out a bit in the 2nd half and attack leaving space for us to pick them off. The goal just before half time and then just after couldn't have been better timed.

Yes, I would have loved us to have been ruthless and added a 4th, 5th and even 6th but it was job done with minimal fuss apart from a couple of late Villa chances.

I'm struggling to pick a MOM as I didn't think anyone particularly stood out, we barely moved above walking pace but didn't need to. While stats don't tell the whole story I was shocked when I did look at them, it looked a complete battering on paper and if we have stepped up another two or three gears who knows what the score would have been.

As easy as this game appeared the pressure was definitely on both Poch and the players...and let's be honest we cruised to three points. Onto the next one!

Eight more wins and we will finish, at worst, second!!! COYS!!!!!

Apart from that pen against Stoke and crashing with Dier which led to Leicester scoring, he hasn't put a foot wrong all season. Best central defender we've had since Ledley. Possibly even better. Our player of the season so far for me. Deserves a song!

I like him but I think he is struggling for playing time rhythm right now (understandably)...
Yes, always easy to forget how long it takes to get back up to speed after an injury. Some take longer than others and Mason seems like one of those who really needs to get back into it before motoring.

With likely only one more Europa to come let's hope that's enough because we are going to need his energy and verve coming off the bench for the run in.
