This was a much needed win after being winless in 3 matches. But we could have won this match more comfortably. Instead, we almost let Villa come back late in the match despite winning 2-0. We were fortunate they only hit the post 3 times late in the match. We would have been under undue pressure if they had scored even 1 of them. This shows we still need to learn to kill teams off when we are leading. If we can get that magical 3rd goal, we won't have to go through the tense period and would have won many more games this season.
Credit to Kane for scoring and Alli for assisting both the goals. But Kane really should have scored at least 3 more goals but wasted them. If Villa had forced us to draw late in the match, Kane would have to take the blame for it for wasting those chances. For his first chance, it was a inch perfect pass from Lamela which he should have scored from. He had all the time in the world to go round the goalie but chose to chip it over the goalie and hit the post instead. Kane also wasted 2 other chances when he hit it straight at the goalie. For one of that chance, Kane could have passed to an unmarked Lamela but tried to score from a difficult angle which was saved by the goalie.
Lamela was very unlucky not to score and assist a goal. His inch perfect pass to Kane should have been scored. Lamela was also unlucky when his touch from Walker's pass hit the post. Kane too should have passed to the unmarked Lamela in the first half. We had a few other chances which we should have scored from. After scoring so early in the second half, thought we would score a few more but unfortunately we got complacent after that. It could have been costly for us had Villa scored with their chances late in the match.
Our midfield did well to control the match. It was nice to see Dier, Dembele and Alli all starting together again. Alli did his part by creating both our goals. It was very smart of Alli to take the quick freekick from which Kane scored our first goal. Similiarly, it was a inch perfect pass by Alli to Kane for our second goal. Too bad Alli couldn't create another goal for Kane as it would have been hattrick of goals and assists for Kane and Alli ! Happy to see our defence keeping the clean sheet even if we had to ride our luck late in the match. The fact Villa hit the post 3 times shows we need to be alert for the whole match.
Glad see us getting back into winning ways. We have no choice but to keep on winning to stay in the title race. Hope we will go on a long winning run in our remaining matches.
