OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Had the cigars out too early there and might have got punished for it. How Ѕpursy would that have been?

Totally outplayed Villa and feel we were lucky not to come away drawing 2-2. Villa should have been dead and buried and we went to sleep in the last ten minutes, if they played the full ninety rather than treating the last 10 as a practice session perhaps we could've felt more comfortable at the end.

When Lamela had that opportunity in the second half, he seemed so relaxed like it was a pre season game.

had villa take all their good chances yes they would have scored 2, but if thats the ballgame then you have to assume we scored all of ours, which would have been about 6

Terrible second half. It looked like we thought it was too easy after our second goal. Instead of going for the kill against a very poor defence, we were just strolling around, had no purpose about our attacking play at all and were sloppy. A better team than Villa would have punished us, and we were extremely fortunate not to concede a goal. If that had happened, the last few minutes would have been a nightmare. I thought our attitute was disappointing in the second half, especially Dele Alli's. He was just tinkling about out there, trying fancy things instead of playing proper football. Two great assists, but he needs to cut that stuff out.

Three important points though.

Hope Poch gives them a cobblering for the last 15 minutes

Or at least a stern chat. Sounds harsh to be critical, but that least 10mins was poor and we should have not had to endure that blood-pressure increasing finale.

That said. Another one down, another three points, and the massive oppurtunity to begin April with at least a 9pts (net 6pts) gap to 5th.

So relieved to have won today. Was a potential banana skin, but pleased with all the right noises coming out of the club about having the right mentality for the game.

Welcome to the board Mr. Pulis.

The last 10 mins was very sloppy by Spurs but I'm thinking Poch had instructed them to conserve a bit of energy and rest on the ball as much as possible in that 2nd half. There was a lot of recycling of possession and it got a bit boring at one point. It nearly backfired though in the last 10 mins or so, but didn't, so onwards and upwards.

I thought Alli had a bit of a stinker overall. His control throughout the match was awful but he did come up with two assists which is brilliant. I would have hooked him after 60mins nonetheless.

I'm hoping something along those lines as well. It certainly looked like we were trying to conserve energy. Oh, well, three points, hopefully we'll be more focused with better opponents.

Interestingly, no-one has noticed that we lost our bearings

a) after Eriksen went off (and this despite one of his softer games) and
b) with Carroll and Mason on

We switched off. It happens. Had they got one we'd have got a third I am sure. That last 10 minutes must've been horrible because let's face it, the game was won and it's all about being professional and seeing it out, a place where we are still gathering experience. But we got it done. So all good.

As I feared, Villa did come to play today (TV cameras, players auditioning for other gigs, etc) and we needed to be on form to win. No gimmes in the Prem.

I hope Poch annoys the whingers by choosing another 'squad' side Thursday. We have 8 cup finals left. We can do this, but by GHod it will be tough because some of the boys are knackered. Let us remember that Dele Alli is NINTEEN - I doubt that loan-back to MK Dons prepared him fuly for this sort of season!

COYS!

8 cup finals indeed, if we can play like cup finals I honestly think we can do the League, Liverpool is the one I fear most. Man U are not what they used to be and Chelsea we should be with insight of a title by then and frankly if you want to win it then you have to beat the racist chav scum. But once the drink has worn off then I will look at Bournemouth and think that their high pressing and running game will be a stern test.

So basically I need to keep drinking till middle of May.
