Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Whether we like it or not - there's two situations we have to deal with right now.

1. He is still a Tottenham player, and is collecting HUGE wages
2. He is also the only natural striker at the club if Kane isn't available for any reason

Clearly something happened between Poch and Ade last season as he went from first choice starter to complete exile in the second half of the season. But that doesn't mean that the first thing Poch should be doing today is calling him in for a one-on-one meeting and trying to work out their differences. Its in both of their best interests.

For Ade - because as we all know money is his primary motivator. If he is frozen out for another year he will be 32 years old, having not played for a year and a half and with a bad reputation hanging over his head. When he goes looking for his final payday from the MLS, China, Qatar or whoever next season, he'll do well to get a third of his £100k a week contract if that's the case. He needs to have a good season to remind people what he can do.

For Poch - because otherwise, we are one Harry Kane injury away from having to play one of Chadli, Lamela, Son or N'Jie out of position in one of the most important positions on the pitch. And because, when motivated, Adebayor is one of the best strikers in the county. Even taking into account his "strops" under Wenger, Mancini, AVB and Poch, the fact is he has an almost one in two goalscoring ratio going back to 2007 when he came out of his shell at Arsenal. That's an eight year period playing for four different clubs under eight different managers, hardly consistent surroundings, yet still consistent.

Clearly, Poch has worked hard to focus on squad harmony and getting rid of negative influences who don't tow the party line. I think his problem last season was making Kaboul and Ade, who turned out to be these bad influences, into club captain and vice captain respectively. That means that the younger players took notice of them if they start slagging Poch off or criticising a young player's approach, for example. As the outcast coming back in and under instructions to be on his best behavior, I do think that that negativity can be managed with the correct approach. I seem to remember a few of the players from the Harry era talking about what a lively, bubbly character Adebayor had been previously, Defoe for example, and remember that celebration he used to do with Bale?

I'm not exactly happy about this situation but we have to make do with what we have. Over to you Poch.

Pretty much this. If it's between picking him occasionally and him scoring the odd goal or potentially finishing lower then it's a very simple choice I'm afraid. I know it's a massive IF but that's what happens when you leave yourself with 1 striker in the entire squad.

I'm with @africanspurs on this one. What price do you put on the soul? Sometimes we have to stick to our values and our principles. Ade doesn't fit in, and I think we hold our nerve and just let him waste away his career. He's hell bent on doing it anyway. If he was really worried about his career, he would have left. He doesn't give a flying crap. He will show no willing in being re-integrated. I bet that his instagram or twitter feed or facebook page will be filled of parties, new cars and him enjoying the high life. I also predict that there will be an interview in one of the papers where he will say he wants to continue to play for Spurs. All this nonsense is because he wants to collect his wage and not do a thing.

It comes down to 2 choices.

1. Bring him back into the squad. Give him a number and use him when needed. He will get mercilessly barracked by our fans, and you know he wont put in the required effort. He will stroll around smiling like he did when we used him last season. And he Will annoy us even more.

2. Fudge him off. We cant get rid of him now and he is sucking on our money. So lets make him train with the boys, three times a day. Make him travel everywhere with the required teams but never part of the 1st team. Fine him when possible. And generally make his life a professional misery. Either that or we send him away for the rest of the season.

Either way we are not going to be happy with him. He is getting the highest wages for being the biggest bum in our team. I would prefer him to never come near our 1st team again. But I am so annoyed by his antics he deserves to be treated the way he is taking advantage of us.

I'd love to sit down with him and tell him how lucky he is to play for this club. I will also reiterate how lucky he is to be a footballer in the first place. Someone needs to drag that passion out of him. Make him feel loved again and we should reap the rewards.

Let him earn his money, it's no good for anyone him sitting on the side lines. Poch needs to prove his man management skills and get adebayor scoring again.

Admirable, but I truly believe he will just smile back at you and ignore everything you say. His passion is not football. So many footballers have had their careers robbed through serious injury, yet here we have an example of a player who is willing to not play.

4. Raise some money to afford a publicist for his estranged family ...lol they will drive him mad with more juju accusations

Apologies if I've missed this being mentioned, but it seems to me very obvious that Adebayor has some sort of mental issue.

The Facebook ramblings and general behaviour are not the actions of a sane man.

Presumably those desperate for Adebayor to leave because of his perceived lack of application or loyalty are questioning the club's seeming lack of loyalty and (psychiatric) assistance to a player under their control?

I don't doubt Adebayor has acted unprofessionally at times - but I'm not convinced the actions aren't a consequence of at best, a very fragile mind, or worst, a man with quite serious mental issues.

This isn't me making excuses for him, I simply think there is a chance that his erratic behaviour is being over simplified.

Oversimplified view = he's a clam

lack of maturity, failure to take responsibility and a total lack of appreciation for what he has and could do also does not equal mental problems.

this is Ade, when the fudging stars align and he gets a sign from the tooth fairy (or he's playing for bonuses) he turns it on for 3 months, looks a like a world class player that deserves to play at the level he has, but he can't hold his application level so it slips back to mediocrity, he angers/frustrates/alienates the manager/club/team/fans until he moves on, rinse and repeat.

being a clam and/or asshole is not a mental illness unfortunately, its just how some people are.

1. Is a sunk cost and is irrelevant to any further decisions.

2. So we're left with deciding whether it's better to have Ade maybe bother to turn up for a match every now and then or if it's better to stick to principles that set very clear boundaries to our youth players and any who look to join us in the future.

I'd far rather go into the season with one striker than undermine both the manager's decisions and the hard work all the rest of our squad puts into their game.

Can I suggest an alternative? Put him in the reserves by all means but play him and make sure he gives a 100% effort. If not, fine him, week after week. If he has any problem, let him take us to court.

If he does put in 100% though, give him to the chance to rehabilitate himself - starting in the away game in Kasakstan or wherever. If he also get through that, then allow him back into the team.

The guy is a nutcase and you never know what you get with him. Playing for his last contract may, just maybe, jog something to give him a desire to play - if at least until Christmas

I used to be a big fan of Ade - now I would like to make him wash all the cars at the lodge every day! For the next year
