Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Re: Official - Adebayor

Ade's quality.

I still think last season was the perfect storm of injury, suspension, off-field stuff (African Nations) and a bit of loss of form. Remember, he ended last season pretty well (great goal against Chelsea) and there was no reason why he wouldn't have carried that on this season if AVB decided to play him.

The only thing I would hold against Adebayor is not making it back from the African Nations Cup at the time he should have done. Criminally unprofessional when you think what he gets paid.

But overall for us, when he's been given a run of starts that don't get done in by injury or suspension, he's been a very good player.

Re: Official - Adebayor

I do kinda see where SuperHudd is coming from....I have started to fall out of love with the game...

I fell out of love with it by and large about 12 years ago, at that point my son was born and subsequently I gave up my season ticket, emigrated and whilst I never stop loving the club and its fans in particular I simply don't have the passion I had as a young man when I traveled all over Europe watching the team. I never subscribed to Sky whilst I lived in the UK and never would have. We don't have a TV here at home in the USA but I do wander down to the local pub and pretty much see every game. I still get excited when we bring through a young player from the youth team and would love nothing more to see a team of London lads playing, although I realise that this is simply not going to happen. It is what is is these days, I understand SuperHudds perspective I really do.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Superhudd, I'm only 20 so have grown up with the game as it is but even I am. As a kid you don't think much of it, I could accept one Chelsea. Then City came along and if they wern't there we'd probably have had three or four seasons in the Champions League and would be establishing ourselves as title contenders, hell we might have won the title already!

I completley see where you're coming from. I was watching the Liverpool match in a pub with my mate. Suarez dived to win them a penalty. Even my mate thought it was a dive but of course he still went nuts when he put the ball in the net. I had to go outside for a few cigarettes because Suarez was ****ing me off cos they kept showing his face.

The problem we had I think was your wording, as if you weren't going to go simply because of Adebayor. Now you've explained the situation properly it makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Of course you need to come to some sort of decision on whether you'll carry on going because it's probably not going to get any better. Maybe going to non-league games where people play football for playing football and everything's a bit more basic will help. That's why I've also liked the concept of FC United of Manchester and AFC Wimbledon (though Wimbledon are more of a protest against MK Dons then modern football as a whole).

Also, I'd highly reccomend getting rid of Sky. I got my mother to do it when I was 18 as I decided I no longer wanted her money going towards Rupert Murdoch or anyone else who has such an aggresive monopoly that extorts fans. You can find rivers on the internet easily enough (I'll even PM you a great site if you'd wish). It saves you a lot more money, Murdoch doesn't get your money and you can watch a wider range of matches.

Re: Official - Adebayor

I do get where you're coming from Superhudd, but I think you're aiming an extraordinary amount of hostility towards Adebayor...

I can understand why you're frustrated with the game, but Ade is not the cause for that, he's merely a symptom.

first bit has never been a question, it's not a fluke the guy has played for who he has.

The questions are, will he play like that for the rest of this season? will he play like that beyond this season? historically there are reasons people ask that.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Welcome back Mk1 Ade. Long may it continue. Hope the Mk2 version is consigned to history never to return!

me to.

I hope this thread continues to move along at great speed with us salivating his peformances....I completely understand huddys viewpoint, and hope as he does that Ade continues this resurgence!

Re: Official - Adebayor

I can tell you I am not punishing myself over my stance on this. This has been coming for a couple of years and not entirely down to just one player. Its the whole football circus. I can assure you that I will be the first to hold my hands up should he play like this for the whole of the remaining season and certainly next season too. But unlike yourself understand that he has previous everywhere he has played. Its not just at Tottenham.

Just to get one thing straight also, his Togo bus experience and his recent loss of his brother has nothing to do to why I think he is what I think he is.. so why do you bring it up. All I have stated is that I hope his life changing aspects of his recent worries may change the man for the better.

I also do not believe his work rate should have been harmed with the way AVB chose to play him.. just excuses in my book, as.. as suggested he has previous of downing tools when things are not his cup of tea. I hope he goes on to score 30 goals in the remaining part of the season because that benefits Tottenham and to a point proves everyone right that he is what we think he is. In the most part, I think we are seeing today because he is looking for his last big pay day, and for this I am sick of cheering on this type of person/footballer, but by all means.. do what you feel is best.. and I will do what I feel is best.

First off, I apologize if I came across as being harsh…I was responding to what seemed a flippant reaction to a single issue. Having read some of your thoughts today, I can see this is actually a deep philosophical reaction to something which has been 'opened up' in your mind, a personal epiphany of sorts I suppose, and such things are not trivial in any way. So again, apologies for seeming perhaps sanctimonious.

I disagree re: Adebayor, that much is obvious, but I certainly understand your grief for what modern football has become. I suppose I choose to ignore it and focus on the core of what I love (the club - why? because. Rational? Certainly not!) but again, I get it, I see what you're feeling…

Good luck with the wee one. I have a 21 and a nearly-9 year old. Yes, life changes, but it's excellent!

Hope the love for Spurs and footy comes back mate, Steff

Re: Official - Adebayor

Does anyone else think Ade looks a bit stronger than he did before? To me he looks a bit less lanky and more fighting machine than he's done in the past, could be my memory playing a trick on me.

Great to have him get some goals and confidence, we all know he's a mood player and having him in the right mood could make all the difference this season. A joy to watch him play football when he's like this.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Has anyone found out exactly what went down between Ade and AVB this season??

It's strange because with all the anti-Ade moaning he did play a significant number of games last season, plus he did go to the far east tour before his brother sadly died. I'm sure he played in that game vs Sunderland before the Bale circus hit.

Something really must have happened between after that, and something BIG; much more than "he's not a player that I like". After all he apparently didn't fancy him last year and still used him anyway.

So what REALLY happened??

Re: Official - Adebayor

I just hope his mini 'spat' with Dembele doesn't cause any long-term issue. Yes Dembele could have passed it to Ade, but we always complain that Moussa doesn't shoot/score enough so it's only fair he shot (though it was a crap one for sure lol).

Hoping the fact he couldn't look Ade in the eye was more embarrassment than 'Sod you'...

Only speculation has been released so far. You'll probably have to wait until one of them publishes a book. I'm not big on reading sports biographies, but I imagine there will be an interesting story or two if Ade publishes the story of his life...

Ade said in the post match interview that he talked to Dembele after the game and they were fine, but he also said that if we hadn't won the game there would have been a fight between them and that it's all about the team getting goals and winning matches. (paraphrase)

Steff, no need to apologise. I did mention my feelings regarding this issue some pages back in this thread not that long ago, and when he did that interview and the usual PR bull$hit that I think all have done this week it kinda made me feel.. are you taking me for a mug here, a bit like SSN showing that clip of Terry, the stance of SKY is clear and everyone that's got something to protect.. SSN and there premier league whereby everyone is seen as gods and can do no wrong, Terry looking for life after Chelsea, AVB trying to save his career, Adebayor and his next contract and Tottenham and the fee they want should they sell. This mentality that people can do wrong again and again is bull$hit and those that help them are twunts too, and we are the fools for putting up with it.

:ross: You just made my day with that quote. Has he found GHod again or something.

Yes, I saw that on MOTD...have to admit I felt slightly uncomfortable about what he said. He came across on one hand quite pro-Team, but on the other quite a bit like a premadonna.....

He aluded to something in that interview about an Aeroplane that was really ****e and he didn't want to get on it or something.. if he missed a flight and that was why he was late from the African Nations. Personally I think AVB was like me and many others who were sick and tired of the poor work ethic.

That's it! The pro-team primadonna, that's the attitude Ade needs to keep.

The confidence to know he's the best player on the pitch, but still caring enough about the team to want the best for the team.

I think that he was just joking
