I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

Re: Official - Lamela

It's not even half a season really, it's three starts and a few cameos here and there.

Spot on!

He's clearly very talented, we just need to keep him on the pitch.

Seriously, some here would have written off Suarez in his first half a season with Liverpool.

Re: Official - Lamela

What do you mean?

i mean if people are using every isolated good thing that happens to this kid as testimony that he is guaranteed to be this wonder kid

would it be much better to say that his past suggests he is talented but that he is struggling very much right now and that hopefully soon he can become a solid squad / first 11 performer / contributor...as opposed to something along the lines of ....he assisted or scored in the past...he will be diego maradona

tbh i shouldnt even gripe about how people choose to asses players, i can just do mine tbh.

i dont doubt that he has talent, but i dont think thats enough to guarantee success over time. we can only hope for that given luck and hardwork on the boys part

Are people doing that?

His obvious talent should at least be enough to get him time on the pitch and (imo) it should be enough for people to give him a bit longer than 3 PL starts before starting to give up on him, question the signing or predict his demise at the club. This thread is giving me flashbacks to some of the "lol Bale at Madrid, they have no patience" posts.

if you havent noticed that then we are already starting this discussion from an unproductive point not to mention the part where people have categorically given up on him after 3 months of a 6 year contract?

so with you on this i politely tip my hat mate

Erik Lamela wants Tottenham loan move as Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid get ready to pounce

The Argentinean wants first team football to keep his World Cup dream alive after failing to settle at White Hart Lane since his record £30million move

Tottenham's £30million record signing Erik Lamela still wants to go out on loan with Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid keen on taking him.

The 21-year-old Argentinean made the request while Andre Villas Boas was still at White Hart Lane.

Lamela is desperate to play every week to keep his World Cup dream alive.

So far this season the winger, who can play on either side, has made just three Premier League starts.

Although he has publicly declared he is up for the challenge of breaking into the Spurs team, his private frustrations are well known and have attracted interest from a number of top European clubs.

Spurs, however, have no intention of farming Lamela out and retain high hopes for him.

The wideman was signed during the summer transfer window from Roma. At the time his capture was widely hailed as a coup for Tottenham.

It is understood, however, that he was one of four players that former Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas did not approve. Lamela was still recruited by chairman Daniel Levy and Technical Director Franco Baldini.

Villas Boas actually wanted Anzhi star Willian but was beaten to the Brazilian by former boss Jose Mourinho.

Re: Official - Lamela

Nice factual piece there backed up with a load of quotes from reputable sources. This rumour has been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks now, this is just the firsr red top to run it. It could be his agent helping him get more first team football, but I think its just BS from a journalist. The lad must surely want to give himself a chance at cracking the challenge of the EPL

Re: Official - Lamela

It would make no sense for the club, or for him to go out on loan, its been 4 months since he arrived, its not like he has been absolutely terrible. Play the kid and watch him grow.

He needs to be in the right environment to grow too though. If he's not in a team that values technical ability then he won't develop much.

Might be better for us long term to send him away for 18 months and then get him back.

Re: Official - Lamela

How is packing him off back to Italy or to Spain going to help him settle in England and feel comfortable playing in this league? Bonkers idea, just play him, I don't care if he has a few quiet games, the best thing for us is that he plays and develops at THFC, not ****ing Inter or Atletico. £26m and we seem determined to throw it down the drain.

If he's in a team that doesn't value technical ability then he won't get enough game time. If he doesn't get enough game time then he won't develop.

Re: Official - Lamela

Right now, the one thing Sherwood has got right is playing Eriksen in the middle, I think thats a sign that maybe we will begin to appreciate technical ability more in this team. Like Rossi, I dont think sending him away to another league will bring any benefit to us.

I honestly think he needs a spell where hes trusted enough to show his worth. There are times where hes seen the space, but not had the confidence to attack it. I really think hes got something different about him. Hes just 21 years old, in a new country, had 3 starts in the PL in 4 months, I dont think we've treated him in the correct way on the pitch.

Let me guess, we suddenly stopped valuing technical ability when we sacked AVB amirite?

Re: Official - Lamela

If this happens I'm seriously done with Levy. It shows that our strategy over the summer was a complete "make it up as you go along" thing. No strategy whatsoever
