Andros Townsend

I was watching yesterday's match on a choppy river. Was the 2nd incident a peno or dive?

Neither for me to be honest.

Shelvey did stick his leg out a bit and I think there was contact. But Townsend was looking for it and seemed to leave his leg in there to create the contact.

Depends how you define 'dive' I suppose, but to me that's not a dive.

Do you think the contact natural (but slight) or manufactured, if you get my meaning? If he manufactured the peno then that for me really is cheating too. I will say though that my mental picture of what went on may not be a true representation of this incident. I'll snoop around and find a vid or something.

Mind you he should have had one earlier so a bit of poetic justice I guess.

Here it is.

Inconclusive, but not a peno for me.

Yeah, I don't think anyone can claim that it was unjust for us to get a penalty in that game.

The way I saw it from the replays it was manufactured contact, that's why I don't think it was a penalty. These things always become judgement calls of course. To some extent I think attackers can see a defender coming and allow themselves to be fouled thus taking part in creating the situation.

Andros was on his way down before he got to Shelvey, think the officials were just trying to make amends for their mistake in the first half.

A few angles shown from around 1:50 into this video:

that change of direction, even with the slightest touch he was going to go down. and that is what happened. A pen for me. A soft one but still a pen.

I just noticed there was about 5-6 Swansea players encroaching on the peno.

looks like a clear pen to me - defender obviously tried to avoid contact but his leg is what brought Townsend down

For me, one of the most pleasing aspects of Townsend making the step up to play a major role in the team is the fact that he is a Tottenham Academy product (I believe I read he joined at 9 years old) and a real Tottenham fan. It just makes me happy that we can produce that kind of player. Now all we need is for him to keep developing.

Honestly mate from where I was sitting I could see the same space time and time again that I'm sure Lennon would have exploited behind the full back. Walker has actually become accustomed to making that pass now and I felt Andros doesn't have that same understanding and he hung back waiting for the ball to feet. He is a different player but I love when Lennon does this. It absolutely terrifies the defence when the speed merchant gets to the byline behind the full back.

Kind of forgot this, but I remember thinking their LB was incredibly ****. Always making silly errors, we should have got at him more really.

So have we come to the conclusion that it's Walker that is nullifying our winger whether it's Lennon or Townsend?

For those that think Lennon/Townsend is supposed to play like an old-fashioned, out and out winger that's probably the case.

Thank GHod!

I think Walker would do better with a Chadli infront of him. (Maybe even Lamela)

Because to be honest, I do sort of feel if Lennon played the exact same way Townsend did against Swansea people would be still ****ging him off. I didn't see anything from Townsend yesterday that made me think, DAMN this guy is miles better than Lennon and deserves to start every week. I do know he is very talented though, getting used to our team and line up and is very talented. I would just like to see Naughton behind Lennon too.

And had Townsend put in Chadli's performance he would be showered with praise.
