he has got previous of coming in mid season and winning a cup. Very good cup manager. Excellent tactician.

I wouldn’t want him long term as he has issues with the man management side of the game, but maybe until the summer and then a rejuvenated Poch to return to see what he can get out of this lot.

although it would be the hardest call in the world for Tunchel to win us the Champs league and then for us to replace him.

Better not to give Poch and the coaches 3 months to meet/assess their squad (re the summer window) and get started teaching them all passing and pressing again?

is he in or ..out.. you shake it all about...you do the hokey cokey and you turn around..thats what its all about:p
OK......... I'll get my coat......

If Conte wants to stay, I'm all in on him. We've been through this cycle. Sack the manager, get a new one, get a bounce, things get brick, sack the manager. It leads nowhere. We accuse the players and club of being weak minded but shouting for the manager's head every time we hit a bad patch is weak minded.

Conte is a winner. Give him time. Fergie is the cliche example but you can wheel out Klopp and Arteta as very recent examples of managers who have had sticky spells and came out the other side.

If Conte is going to go regardless, let him go now. Pay the 5m-8m or whatever you can agree with him. If he stays and his heart's not in it, it'll cost us at least that much. And if he goes, get Poch back. Will he be successful? F**k knows but the short term rush would be brilliant and he's the best manager I can see on the market at the moment.

Great post, well said sir.

Agreed (apart from the Poch bit :D).

When are we going to stop begging for the manager to be kicked out and start focusing on getting rid of the weak minded players. We have had enough top quality managers over the last few years, but the same tired weak minded fold under pressure key players who you can guarantee make mistakes.

People talk about 3 at the back, but right now what choice do we have? Romero who is great, but likely to at least be a yellow a game and worse in a back 4 when he lunges forward - Dier? can be 8 out of 10 for 3 games in a row, then passes the ball into our own net, Lloris? Scared to kick a ball, clearly colour blind and thinks opponent is us.

Its not a manager change we need, but a squad refresh of players with the right mentality, and there isnt many better then Conte at building and getting players with that mental hardiness. So for now, he can stay as long as he wants to to oversee that refresh and if it means a season or 2 of crappy football then so be it, because with the players we have now there is no chance we win anything no matter the tactics.
We are refreshing the squad. This is not the same issue Mourinho or Nuno faced we are further down the rebuild cycle. I think we are in the top 5 of transfer spend. Conte will never get all the players he craves. The problem is he is so wedded to play a certain way. I just don't think he is the right fit for us.

I will always maintain that he did an excellent job to finish in 4th last season, but I agree that he doesn't seem to be right for us, and vice versa. All the talk of suffering and all that, I get it, but it's not just the players that are suffering. We can be difficult to watch at times, and while I don't blame him for the players he's inherited, his lack of rotation or reticence to bench those that are underperforming has been perplexing to say the least. A good manager should be able to get the most out of all the players at their disposal and use their whole squad. I also feel like it's the manager's job to develop young players as well, whether that's actually playing them in matches or instructing our DoF to find them loans (referring more about Skipp than Spence here).

Seeing players returning from the World Cup go straight into the squad for the following fixtures, like Perisic, really made me wonder what was going on behind the scenes. For such a strange season due to the WC being in the winter, I expected more savvy management. His selections for our Carabao Cup match were also wild to me, starting so many first-teamers and STILL losing.

Anyway, I voted for Conte out, but only in the summer. We can perhaps get someone lined up in the mean-time but I harbor no ill will towards Conte. It's only a matter of time before we get some AI ChatGPT-like "Manager Presence Character (MPC)™" taking over first-team coaching duties at clubs so we might as well herald in this frightening future by being the first club to do so, generating tons of publicity and, unexpectedly, deepfakes of "opposition players as women with huge tetas" as a form of psychological warfare to intimidate them. I would like to welcome our new AI overlords and am excited to see what they bring to the pitch, but not to my browser history.

Paratici signing Bentancur and Kulusevski is all I've got.

I think you need to separate Paratici and Conte. Paratici's transfer record is decent since arriving:

Summer 21: Romero, Royal, Sarr, Gollini (loan), Gil
Winter 22: Bentancur, Kulu
Summer 22: Rocharlison, Bisouma, Perisic(free), Udogie, Spence, Forster (free), Lenglet (loan)
Winter 23: Porro, Danjuma (loan)

There's not many out and out failures there for players who have commanded decent fees. Jury still out on a couple, but generally our squad is substantially stronger as a result of the 4 windows he's been here

The previous two summers we spent the best part of £200m on Ndmobele, Sess, GLC, Reguilon, Rodon, Doherty, PEH...

Tbf only 4 of them have played a reasonable amount of games to judge them on

I loved Poch and would welcome him back with open arms... when the time is right. But I would wait at least till the summer and see what Conte does, then consider it.

The main consideration would be to look at our players as I would only consider Poch in the summer IF it was virtually impossible with the current players to reinstate that fudging diamond (how quickly we forget).

If he was able to do it last season why do you not think he can do it again? Do you not think there were plenty of mitigating factors this season for him (3 friends passing away, injuries, illness)?
I think it was the new manager bounce last season. Yes, there have been some mitigating circumstances this year, but I think it is generally difficult for a manager to turn things around after he has been with a team for while. If he does, it will take a very long time, which I do not think the club or the supporters are willing to give him.

EDIT: Someone mentioned SAF, who I think is the exception to the rule. But it still took him a long time to get things clicking (same with Klopp/Lego Man). I don't think we have the luxury to wait 2-3 years, especially given the fact we have enough talent to be in a much better shape than we currently are.

We are 5th in the league, other then Saudi Sportswashing Machine who should we be outperforming? We are certainly not better player wise then Chels or Pool, our Defence and GK are barely top 6 material yet there we are again flirting with top 4.

Conte may or may not be the answer, Poch certainly is not he has zero history of this sort of rebuild (and no he didn’t rebuild anything 1st time round, he lucked into the players we had), his time at PSG in terms of performance shows his level. Tuchel? I guess it’s an option but his track record isn’t better then Mou or Conte, so no guarantees.

We need to replace most our team, so have no issues giving Conte and Paratici the time to do so assuming they are both up for it, but no manager coming in will do better then Conte has done position wise and this can’t be bothered some games attitude dates back to Poch times

zero history of this sort of rebuild

After this summer's window, I'd say that 75%-80% of the rebuild should have been done. As the core of a decent sqaud, I'd hope we have:

- new GK and Lloris
- Romero plus two new £30m-£50m value CBs
- RB or RWB: Porro and Royal on the right; Udogie on the left
- our current 5 CMs
- Kane, Kulu, Richarlison, Son

and then whichever handful of the other names (Dier, Davies, perisic, Gil etc) which remain

That group above is the core of a squad/team which should be able to be in/around the top 4 regularly with some tinkering needed based on the preferences of either Conte or the new manager

Thing that gets me is, despite being pony for 90% of our games we are where we are. IF we had beaten Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Villa and Leicester which this squad are more than capable of we'd be sitting joint 2nd 3pts behind City.

But any team can argue the same and it’s the fact that we didn’t get those wins which is key.

The problem is if Kane leaves then that’s huge. And can happen, if he does it’s equivalent to losing two players such is his influence at the club.

What does that statement mean? The facts don’t bear it out. He was at PSG for just over 1 season and won everything domestically, beat Bayern and Barcelona in the CL too. Galtier is struggling now and Tuchel left them in 3rd place.

This team that Conte has now is decent, we need reinforcements in defence but the defence is not terrible by any means. We have a world class striker who is breaking records domestically and nationally, last years golden boot winner, albeit who has lost form some of that might be down to contes system. A World Cup winning centre half and decent options at F/B. We are 5th for now but teams above and below have games in hand on us, City home aside we do not beat our rivals for CL. West Ham on Sunday will be another good test. Let’s see where we are after that one because I am not confident. Let’s hope I am wrong.
