The player most culpable for Bournmouth's goal was Sanchez. He got attracted to the ball and left his player which meant that Aurier had to leave his player to move inside to pick up Sanchez's.

MOTD were banging on about Aurier and how hes defensively better than Trippier. Actually I think the opposite is true. Trippier is more steady at the back, and despite not being fast, is generally aware and alert. Yes Trippier was outpaced by Sane. But against Sane you need to double up, he is that good imo. Maybe Aurier would have had more speed to combat him.

What Aurier brings is more speed in attack. His crosses weren't good on Sunday - no ones were. Rose, Trippier, Aurier were wasteful. but Aurier got an assist and a goal, was always in the right place, and is on his toes. His final ball, and defensive awareness still needs work but he has zip and flare in attack. He's happy to give and go, run the line, and should be a more rounded player for us by next season.

Everybody can, even Aurier, if you just should do A throw-in. It become much more difficult if you are trying to make a long one. But I agree with you, if you cannot make long ones without failing, you shouldn't try to do the long ones.

Aurier is more aggressive, more physical. He is a bit like Rose/Walker in that respect, he makes it a fight and he forces his will. Though Im not sure who I would consider "better" defensively. I think right now they are both average.

I think I just about agree with MoTD. I think Aurier is better in terms of his positioning and also reacting to opponents runs from deep. He just needs to learn to stay on his feet more (oh and how to take a throw in) and then he will be a very complete defensive player IMO.

Yes but nothwithstanding that, Aurier completely missed the header. No excuses there for me regardless if he was covering for Sanchez.

He missed it because he had to leave his position to cover for Sanchez who was ball watching and left the middle, because of that Aurier had to move away from his position.

But the fact remains, he missed a relatively simple header under no real pressure. That is a real defensive no-no.

No the fact is he had to leave the position he would normally have taken up ( and then would have been in the place to win the header) to cover for Sanchez who was at fault by drifting towards the ball and leaving the centre which was his area to cover.

but he DIDNT successfully cover for Sanchez. He was in a place to make that header and the fact is he missed a relatively straightforward clearing header. If really doesn't matter where he found himself. He missed a simple header.

Agreed. Live it looked ropey whereas in review it was significantly better. I think he needs a whole pre-season to get fully “Poch’d” too..:

He may have ‘missed’ the header but he was jumping one on one with their centre forward (I think it was?). it wasn’t just a free header, it was a challenge against their player who,was previously free in a good goal scoring position. If Sanchez stays with his player then Aurier can stay with his and a goal is extremely unlikely IMO, even after Danny Rose has been beaten.

Was it really straightforward? Have I misremembered it?.... I thought he was jumping against Bournmouth’s centre forward?
