Yves Bissouma

Bissouma, Maddison,Bentacur. What a M/F trio that could be going forward. Add to that Sarr and the signs are looking good.

Bentancur will have a fight on his hands to win his place back if the midfield three of yesterday continue to perform as well as they did. That’s a big if but they all have the ability to make it less of a guaranteed first team place than it would have been before.

There'll be knocks, there'll be suspensions -- especially the way yellow cards are being dished out this season. Perhaps Bentancur will actually have the luxury of being phased in gradually after a major injury.

But back to Bissouma. Such confidence, looking like Brighton Bissouma again. I'm under no doubt that the attitude that Ange has imbued into the team is a large part of that. There are plenty more tests to come -- the real character of this team will be shown when an opponent takes their chances and goes 2-0 up in the first half. Here's hoping...

Nothing to do with Yves' injuries, time to settle in to the club or being less suited to a midfield two, alrighty then.

And set the club back by years despite getting 4th in his first season and was in 4th when he left, massive set back there obviously...

What a load of gonads mate. Positivity about Bissouma (and Sarr if that's who you meant rather than Cisse) is well deserved but bitching about Conte in this thread is a headscratcher.

It's a big if but whilst Conte isn't historically in to young players all that often I do bet he'd have used Udogie from the off given how confident + strong he looks. As for Sarr it arguably helped him not being in the firing line last season. It's all irrelevant anyways as long as big Ange is getting the most out of these players that's all that matters.

I clearly remember reading Conte was having a go at Biss, saying he wasn’t playing because he couldn’t learn the system or some brick like that. He was a douche.

yes we were 4th when he left, but that was an absolutely false position due to the games in hand others had over us. It it wasn’t for Kane what the hell would that second year Conte team have been like?

I have to disagree with the whole “4th place” myth about last season. We were only there because we played extra games than a lot of the teams that happened to be below us in the table. Once they played their games in hand, we were placed into our proper position.
I just read @DTA ’s post now and he basically said the same. Not trying to parrot here, just have seen this same line used before many times last season.

I do think Conte performed a miracle to salvage the first season he was here. I do think he massively mismanaged his second season though, although I do understand he had a rough time personally with life and brick happening. Management is a really tough job though as it’s all-consuming.

That’s why I think it’s fair to talk about Ange and what he’s brought to our club so far. We have the players with the intelligence and skill to express themselves, all within the context of working hard to win matches.

I don't love the way things ended with Conte and the football was dull (actually had forgotten how exciting it is to watch your team in an attacking guise) but if we hadn't got Top Four then we wouldn't have got Bissouma I don't think. Possibly not Udogie either. Conte did some good for the club it has to be said. I'm hoping Spence and Richarlison can similarly transform to make last summer's delayed impact even stronger.

Agreed -- and as @papaspur wrote, Conte getting us top 4 in his first season was absolutely massive in terms of recruitment and status. I really thought we'd kick on from there, as some of the football in the run-in was absolutely glorious, but instead the whole team just retreated into their shell. For whatever reasons.
