Transfer thread

Strange one, good player but not really what we need.
Umm I dunno. There's something to be said for the idea of another AM. If Frank is going to play say Kulu more so obviously the right (I think he should stay central personally) and if he's not a super fan of Maddison it can make sense. It even makes sense if he just isn't sold on Maddison and wants better competition for Kulu.

I have a feeling that because of the injury to Kulu and the huge dependancy on the regularly injured Madds heading into the new season, Spurs transfer strategy has been to focus on attacking player depth first. It's not that they're more important than any other position in the grander scheme but needs must.

We'll always figure something out with Bents, Berg, Sarr, Gray etc even if Biss does leave. If we play the first 5 games without Kulu and Madds then we could be in trouble. You add MGW and Kudus into the equation and it all looks so safer to get off to a fast start.

It's more that there's other higher priorities. If we can fill them as well then this is a good signing, but if it's at the expense of the other areas...
But I'm hopeful that Frank has a better idea than me on what we need :D

Well it's been nice knowing you all, but if all this activity, positivity and general goodness for spurs isn't a sign of the coming Rapture/Apocalypse/End of the world then I don't know what is.

It doesn’t feel right does it! All the attrition, and we’re suddenly buying expensive players. We’ll wake up soon and actually be signing Calvert Lewin and I’ll feel normal again 😂

I remember the summer of 2013 when we bought the magnificent 7. Carnage for a while only for us to quickly drop to the ground. Let’s hope this one pans out better!

More of not a priority position. As I've said elsewhere if we get a DM as well it's a great signing, if we don't then I think it's money spent in the wrong area. Still happy to get him.
You are so hung up in a dedicated defensive midfielder. If you stack you midfield with workaholics, like gibbs white, bergvall etc, that are equally good in both directions, you don't need a dedicated defensive midfielder. It's all about how the team is set up to play.

I actually think we do need him. Kulu is still injured with no return date. I suspect he won’t be fit and firing until the New Year.

Maddison is currently coming back from injury. He might miss the start of the season. and even if he doesn’t, do you trust him to stay fit and play in three competitions in the first half the year? He’ll need his time carefully managed otherwise he will break down with an injury and we’d have no AM for half a season. We need Gibbs-White.

I'd prefer a Wharton that can control the game from the base of the midfield than a workaholic midfielder. But each to their own...

A Maddison alternative has been a priority, but not the biggest priority.

Assuming we complete Kudus and MGW I'm guessing that means either we have quite a lot of money left to spend or Frank thinks Gray and Bergvall are very much ready for a quick and solid impact this season. Could be that there will be significant outgoings.

There's other players that can play that role too. I'm assuming that there's 3 or 4 from the midfield and forward line that will be going. If that happens then it makes sense and a bit of a more balanced squad.
