***Tottenham v Brentford OMT***

We need time, it’s that simple. Time to Get the on field relations, time to Get all the players fit, time to learn to be a team. It will Get better. Having our first choice cb, an acctual right back, an attack opositions acctually have to worry about. Today was bad, but we have so much more to come. Of that I have no doubt.

Come on you Spurs!

So far off it in terms of intensity, of course Brentford are a big, physical side and we our starting line-up was not especially big or physical. Our sheer lack of application was eye-opening. Bergvall off the ball today was actualy unforgivable (and I like him as a player) however for the first goal he allows his man to run noff him and then just gives up and leaves the defence to deal with it (or not!), as for that second, he does not show up to help Richarlison, and when he eventually decides to try and get the ball, he waves a foot at it like a wet noodle. Awful.

I still find myself wondering exactly what Gallagher does? I genuinely don't see what he adds right now beyond a lot of bustle? Tonali was rendered pretty anonymous by his midfield partners in that first-half. Tel -as ever- worked very hard and was one of our better players for me (not saying much I admit), my man Richy was part of a game which pretty much allows him to show his worst qualities sadly (this was not a game for him), we absolutely cannot judge Moore who was playing in an unfavoured right-hand side position which is not his, and showed that he needs to be allowed to develop further with a loan. I think there is a similar sense when it comes to Gray. First, he has inexperience out of position ahead of him in Moore, secondly, he's part of a defence playing their first PL game together. I will say that I was actually alarmed at JPVH's performance, it was very, very poor. Senesi? Average at best. Robertson? Decent debut but he does not have pace from deep which I think we need. @DubaiSpur covered things very well IMO FWIW...just to add, Fernandes looked really good.

Interesting to see De Zerbi hit that middle ground tone between expressing disappointment and sharing truths without throwing the players under the bus.

Just to say, we could well see the following first 11 at the end of the month.

Kinsky
Porro JPVH VDV Udogie
Tonali Fernandes
Kudus Maddison Savinho
Marmoush

I still think Gakpo would be a really important signing for the height, and so help me, I'd go in for Mateta now too. he can score, he's got feet, he's a unit. I am finally ready to say goodbye to my dear friend Richey and have been ready for some time to say c'est la vie to Dom. Mateta and Marmoush would be fine by me as options.

I think he has made the selection today and the ones all pre season on the basis of not risking any injury problems. The trade off is that what we saw today was not good. But it will hopefully stand us in good stead as the season really kicks into gear.

Sure, but I don't think the injury-prone players would have helped all that much. Fundamentally, we lost all the physical battles today, and de Zerbi said as much in his presser.

Why, then, did he not play Danso, whose main attribute is his physicality? Not like he wasn't fit, he played in pre-season. Selection seemed off from the start, and it cost us.

He can't keep making mistakes like this. He no longer has a long leash, demanding over 300m in spending has ensured that.

You can not just throw you arms in the air and say "we gave them that as we didn't have the best side.

That is not what big clubs do, thats not what big mentality is...........

Its not about being overboard, but its worth looking at for sure.

We are trusting people and a management group with money, player and investment like no other with loans like never before. Its worth breaking down

Just on the Bergvall point for the first goal, he actually did the correct thing, you let the runner go on to the full back who follows the run. In my humble opinion Robertson was awful for that goal, no man’s land, an experienced defender like that has to be reading the situation and following the runner whose passed on to him, this is school boy stuff, passing on the runner.

Bergvall in General was bloody awful though, just don’t think you can pin that first goal on him.

Oh I absolutely agree. It is unacceptable to be mentally and physically out-fought by Brentford like that (height or otherwise) and there is an equal truth that 4 or 5 of them would not have started had we been able to to call upon some of our missing players.

So it is worth breaking down, and I would suggest part of that process is recognizing some of the context behind it...attitude and approach though? Yeah. I'd say even RDZ will have been surprised by that!

I hate fantasy and sexy and the idea all clubs are the same..........the worry today is, this looked like something we have seen before

we really didn't start on the front foot, starting lineup was so weak - toothless up font, soft like warm buter in the middle and all over the place at the back

our own hate on romero is our own downfall, bergval needs to bide his time since we are getting rid of Sarr man, and we must stick with fernandes and bentancur in the middle

i think Richy needs to play with Solanke up front, neither are strong enough to play the lone striker role
So the £92m man benched 🤣

Once the ball has gone I see your point, however his initial approach to the player to stop the progression was half-hearted for me, he allowed the movement far too easily. In that area of the pitch I don't think a light jockeying is the right action, especially given where the line was being held. On a second viewing I'd have to concede that Tel is also not tuned in. A lot of issues, so yes, maybe harsh to isolate Lucas and it was symptomatic of how he approached the whole half for me,

Utterly pathetic. I get that we were missing key players but we were barely in the game.

We conceded over 20 shots against Brentford which asks serious questions about our defence. Whilst simultaneously creating very few clear cut chances.

Any notion that things would be a lot different this season seems well out.

Cracking ground tbf

I’d imagine the United and West Ham fans will be quiet at least.
You would think so but they will still be giving me brick. Its mostly good natured banter , but sometimes you can only take so much without a reaction. Still the days of Spurs ruining my weekend have long since passed. In the past I would have the hump for days but nowadays I`ll have a couple of beers and look forward to the next game

It doesn't matter as long as the manager doesn't actually say it. 🤣
Exactly!
I know you're looking to make a point here, but you are correct.
It's like life. I'd rather be around people who speak about the years lived/years ahead than start by saying 'well we're all going to die anyway' or that old chestnut 'we're dying every day' or 'every day is a step closer to death' which are all perfectly accurate however not exactly what needs to be stated loudly.
