***TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs Fulham OMT***

Just watching BBC 1 o'clock news and they had a piece about the effect on the environment of EUFA expanding their competitions and they mentioned our victory last night increasing this pressure. You read it here first we are responsible for the end of the world.

I thought Hojbjerg was excellent.
He did the job. But he also hindered the build-up play somewhat. He can't break the lines like Bissouma can, so our build-up is much more methodical and, as a result, against a more organized defense. Biss can turn and run with the ball which opens up more spaces and would have allowed us to create more overloads leading to more clear-cut chances. For what Hojbjerg can offer he was excellent, but it made our attacks more labored.

His pace is just ridiculous and great to see how he just dominates situations that could be really dangerous. To find a replacement that's as quick will be really difficult, if not impossible. But I also think Romero is equally as important right now. I would be just as concerned if we lost him.

Most teams that press high have at least one quick CB and that's important. But it's not the end all be all to have a CB as quick as MVdV to play this way. But we do need another option in January I think.
Both are important in different ways. Micky's recovery pace allows us to push further up the field. Romero is much better at breaking the press, as he is an elite passing CB.

To be fair, I think specific to this game we had a few players missing so our subs bench looked pretty weak (I acknowledge injuries are part of the game). All being well, Solomon, Bentancur, Sess, Bissouma would be in the squad and our subs bench looks pretty strong.

As @thfcsteff has referenced, it's a couple of key positions where if we lose the player the collective is so much weaker. VDV is definitely one, and as we see when Maddison gets taken off we are unsurprisingly nowhere near the same level. Had Maddison still been on when bought the other subs on I bet they all would have looked better. We have pretty good backups in most areas, but if we could somehow get like for like replacements for Maddison and VDV (likely not the same level but same skill set) then we really would be cooking. We all knew our issues wasn't going to be fixed in one window, and this is probably the main focus for the next window or two. Not easy to find of course, but with Paratici and co I have confidence we can find the right players....
I don't think the issue was Maddison coming off. For some reason when we entered the last 15-20 minutes of the game we stopped attacking. Even when we were semi-countering, rather than go for it, the ball many times would be passed back. That's more on the attitude towards the game (the players felt we had it won and pulled back on their attacking efforts) than drop in quality. The only player that wanted to keep attacking was actually GLC, but the rest of the team seemed resigned to seeing out the game.

Anyone seen what Bassey was talking to Sonny about ?

He'd just headed out for a corner shortly after first goal, and made a point of telling Son something important. Son expression was a bit puzzled.

The reality is though there will be times you lose a player and it hurts. At 2 nil up against Fulham for 20 mins I would take it because the reality is, there is not another Maddison out there anyway. He is probably playing as one of the top 5 players in his position in the world and the reality is, not to sound cliché, if anyone loses that type of player their quality drops off two. City, Arsenal, Liverpool etc all lose that level of player its bad news, yes we could improve the back up but losing Maddison would still be a massive lose IMO.

But as I have droned on last night, PEH proved the drop off in other areas is not as bad as being made out as long as the changes are not wholesale.

I think he was probably joking about Sonny thinking he would score with a header.
