Tottenham Hotspur v Fudbalski klub Partizan OMT

We aren't Tottenham London, but I suspect that someone out there will have misapplied the name.

Other scummy clubs, on the other hand, like to drop their locale form the club name - seem to remember some Woolwich desperadoes doing this.

Real north London clubs keep their real name, even when obliged to play south of the river - viz Millwall.

The club's name is FK Partizan, and always has been. Someone from Serbia would pretty much never say "Partizan Belgrade". But it's still generally known as "Partizan Belgrade" outside the country (and not just by "us stupid English and Irish"), which kind of makes sense as there are other teams called Partizan (in Belarus, Slovenia, Bulgaria, etc.) although they are much smaller local clubs and the Serbian team is the only one to regularly play in European competition so it's still pretty redundant.

Being Serbian I can confirm this :)

Partizan is my childhood club, don't know who to root for tonight.

Tottenham is our location, so we already have it in our name. If the club's name was FC Hotspur, then it is possible that people might put a location in the name.

Not. Sure. If. Serious. :-k

Seeing as Poch has had to come out and diplomatically deny it, it's obviously something a lot of people have been speculating on.

The Rose incident a few years ago shows it's still a major problem in that part of the world.

I wonder if Port Vale qualify for Europe, whether they would have to call themselves 'Port Vale (kind of near Stoke)'?

Or if Arsenal became more well-known whether they'd have to use the Woolwich part more prominently?

My loyalties to Partizan are purely via my in-laws (even my wife is a committed Spurs fan these days!) so there's no question about who to root for. All the same, I'd like to see Partizan make a decent game of it and do themselves proud, if only for the sake of my brother-in-law. I'm actually going to be over in Serbia for a couple of weeks in October... when I first saw the draw and realised Partizan were in our group, I was really hoping our Belgrade match would coincide with my trip. No such luck though. :(

True, I just can't see it being a deciding factor in his team selection. Could be wrong though.

My gfs best mate has just text me a photo of the spurs plane. She's flying them back tonight the lucky biatch!!!

They are both cabin crew. She flew the goons out to Dortmund the other night as well.

‪#‎THFC‬ team: Lloris (c), Naughton, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies; Bentaleb, Stambouli; Lennon, Paulinho, Townsend; Kane - spurs.to/PBelgradeMC

#THFC subs: Vorm, Chiriches, Dier, Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela, Soldado ‪#‎COYS‬

Will be good to see Fazio and Benji in action - shame Vorm didn't get the nod, perhaps Poch thought that was one too many changes to the spine of the team.

Really hoping Lennon and Townsend have decent games - both have been a bit below par, and both could make a strong case here for getting back into the first team. Pauli is Pauli, just hope he has one of his good games, same with Kane and Benty.

I like the team couldn't be bothered with Soldado, Kane has been better than him anyway

Exactly. It's not Poch's fault Soldado hit 2 open play goals in a whole season and misses chances galore is it?

He went with the kid that usually puts a performance in...completely understandable (although i would have preferred Soldado over paulinho)
