Tottenham Hotspur v Fudbalski klub Partizan OMT

Just a thought, but is it a coincidence that all the players who have not travelled - Ade, Kaboul, Rose, Dembele and Chadli - are black?

I know we still have others like Vorm, Naughton, Paulinho, Lennon and Townsend likely to be involved, but I wonder if we are trying to protect as many as we can from the racism?

Think the team will be:

--------------------vorm
naughton---fazio-----verts----davies
--------------stambouli---bentaleb
lennon---------paulinho----------townsend
--------------------soldado

Verts has travelled so will presumably play. Otherwise its a relatively simple selection

Looks good to me. That's 3 of (IMO) our strongest back 4 (cf 0 who played against Sunderland).

The one thing that's a bit frustrating is that I still want to see Soldado in front of Lamela and Eriksen.

Him playing in front of Lennon and Townsend gives us the same setup that didn't work all the first half of last season - neither have the guile or creativity to give him the type of service he thrives off.

I'm looking forward to seeing Fazio, Davies and Stambouli get good run outs.

I agree, I want to see Soldado playing with our best side and the most creative players around him. Setting up like above we will just have to hope that Partizan, being at home, try and attack us and leave Lennon and Townsend plenty of space to work with.. because if they get men behind the ball I can't see a 3 of Lennon, Townsend and Paulinho creating much.

Rose had issues there 2 years ago so I don't think it is a coincidence. If Poch is protecting our players where he can then that is a decision he will have made with much thought.

Funny enough, Poch just came out and said Rose was left behind for footballing reasons and not because of the abuse he got for England U21s a while back. :-k

My missus is from that that part of the world. These days, technically she'd be called "Serbian", but she always says "former Yugoslavia" when people ask where she's from. Proper old school. Anyway her Dad passed on a few years back, but he was a big Partizan fan. So I'm hoping for a good match and a narrow Spurs win... obviously I want the three points, but I'm happy for us to build up our goal-difference elsewhere; one of the rare occasions I'm not looking for a demolition of the opposition.

That said, while we should really win this, it won't be an easy game. The stadium isn't exactly a cauldron, but the local fans will make a lot of noise. And this Partizan side aren't half bad... the problem is, their stars are either past their best or still inexperienced. The club's recent business model has been to pump resources into the academy and sell the successes (mostly to Italy and Germany), so they have a lot of decent younger players - safe to say the bulk of the next generation of Serbian, Montenegrin and Macedonian internationals are in the Partizan academy today. There are some future world-class players in the squad, but we should still be beating a team of journeymen interspersed with a handful of 18 year old future prospects.

Anyway, I don't think we need to bring the big guns to Belgrade when they can stay at home and prepare for Sunday. So I'd play...

------------------------ Vorm
Naughton ----- Fazio ------- Chiriches ----- Rose
------------ Bentaleb ---------- Dembele
Townsend ---------- Paulinho ------------ Lennon
---------------------- Soldado

Bench: Friedel, Veljkovic, Dier, Stambouli, Mason, Ceballos, Kane.

3-2 win for Spurs.

Why dont they call themselves Partizan Belgrade any more - or is this like the Inter Milan / Internazionale siutation where they never put their own city in their name but us stupid english do ?

Not. Sure. If. Serious. :-k

Rumours on twitter are exactly this

The club's name is FK Partizan, and always has been. Someone from Serbia would pretty much never say "Partizan Belgrade". But it's still generally known as "Partizan Belgrade" outside the country (and not just by "us stupid English and Irish"), which kind of makes sense as there are other teams called Partizan (in Belarus, Slovenia, Bulgaria, etc.) although they are much smaller local clubs and the Serbian team is the only one to regularly play in European competition so it's still pretty redundant.
