Thomas Frank - Head Coach

To the best of my knowledge mate, those on ‘the other side of the argument’ don’t try to repeatedly denigrate those (and the opinions of those) who don’t agree with them. It’s not a big difference to spot…

I’m not sure you can be following that debate that closely, Steff…

Apologies for what I think will be a long(ish) post. Ive been on the wine

Must start with a declaration - until today I haven't watched any football since our 2-2 at Newcstle. I'm done with wasting my time as I think VAR is not fit for purpose. Would my attitude be different if Spurs were dong well? Maybe, but then I've sat through some turgid times throughout the past 40 odd years and not felt this detached from the sport as a whole

That being said, I watched the second half today once I learned there was no VAR and I really hope we keep Frank for at least this season, if not the next 2-3, and give him time to build a team. I'm not basing that on our 2nd half display as I understand the 1st half was woeful but we have to give managers time. The caveat being if they lose the dressing room which I don't believe he has

Since Poch (who never actually won a trophy, lest we forget) we've tried managers who have won it all before and managers who are on their way up and no one has succeeded. The board obviously felt Frank was than right man a few months ago and it would be wrong and a big step backwards to sack him now

I get that fans are entitled to boo the team and that is their right but the ones who are lucky enough to go week in week out have a job to get behind the lads regardless and show that we support them whatever. I remember booing Chris Armstrong when he was going through a rough patch and now I wish I hadn't - he needed our support more than ever then. There's only one person who has ever been associated with Spurs, past or present, who it's obligatory to abuse and we all know who that is (clue: a judas clam)

I may have stepped away from football for the time being but I'll always be Spurs

Nice post mate, hope you find your love back soon, I am in a similar situation, gave up after 1st half, not just because of score, couldn't stomach the basic mistakes and the ref looked like a spoiler to me, not sure if that carried on 2nd half.

VAR has been a massive football buzzkill for me

Thanks! I can live with the basic mistakes (I don't like them obviously! But I've supported them through a lot worse) but its VAR that has ruined it. Buzzkill is absolutely the right word, it could be such a good addition to the sport but it's fudging it up instead

Absolutely agree about VAR. I really enjoyed the feeling return tonight that what was happening would actually matter. It made the game much more visceral and alive. I even celebrated our goal, which i stopped doing in about 2019. I miss that feeling

Is that because 2019 is the last time we actually scored a goal...?!

No agreed, celebrating a goal has been watered down which is such a shame as thats the integral bit of watching a match. Couldn't even properly celebrate Johnson's goal in the Europa final as waiting to see If VAR will find a reason to disallow it. Obviously everyone wants to eradicate refereeing mistakes from football as much as we can but not to the detriment of the basic enjoyment

Anyway, don;t want to turn this into a VAR thread

Really disappointed in this post, I thought it was going to be long.

I didn’t see the game tonight but genuinely don’t feel watching would have changed my view which at this point is apathy. Right now I don’t know what the plan is for the club from the very top to the pitch. It’s an identity crisis unveiling in front of us. I’d love for it work under Frank but I think he’s lost the fans and at this point there’s no way back.

At the same time I’ve no idea who I’d want to take over so the sense of apathy grows

In that sentance you have absolutely nailed how I feel.

I watch a game obviously hoping we win, but during any game I dont celebrate a goal until officially given. (Was exactly the same as you in the final).
Celebrating a goal is, for me, what going to a match/watching a match at home is the big release, and now its gone, and its numbing, but we still watch.

Many will know on here myself and the Mrs PW used to do the 400mile round trip to most home games as it was such a buzz. These days its maybe 2 a season or 3 tops, such has my enthusiasm for the sport diminished, saying that the wife still swears like a trooper during the games when the other teams score...

Definately. Var has destroyed the game in my opinion. On top of the diving, cheating and rolling around like sooks.
