The Stats Thread

We do sit back a fair bit, but defend well when we do. Low xG, long shots, average crosses will happen.

On the flip side we're rather good at counter attacking, situations where getting closer to goal, higher xG chances is easier.

Still a bit surprising. May be a sample size thing, will be interesting to see if it continues in a similar way.

Not sure on the counter attacking leading to getting closer to goal line (higher xg chances sure) imo when through on goal our forwards will often shoot from further out as the goal keeper is more likely to come off his line - Citys usual type of attacking with high positional/possession play and lots of cutting in from wide and playing cut backs is what i would associate with the type of football leading to short distance shots being taken.

Anything to do with the chances we seem to be creating from corners this season? Goal v Chelsea and Wolves plus at least a couple of other chances from corners I can think of.

You're probably right on distance for some of those chances. Was thinking more of better quality chances. I do also think we get some of those cut back, excellent crossing opportunities etc that do lead to chances closer to goal.

Where can I find Premier League headed shots on target statistics? I have a bet on Haaland, Kane and Nunez each having 15+ headed shots on target this season. The first two have started well. Nunez used his head in the wrong way but set to return soon.

thanks

It's interesting how the teams that benefited from VAR (Red) include City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea.
Would be good to see these stats for the last few seasons since it was introduced and see if it's the same

Refs are giving bad decisions against those teams? Only to be corrected by var?

Top teams create more goal incidents. We need to know whether for top teams more reviews to go to the VAR in the first place.

You cherry picked the results, and we still came third!:D

So kinda of interesting, half point check in.

After 18 games this season 10-3-5, 33 points, 5th position, 2 points off 3rd, GF 37, GA 25
After 18 games last season 10-3-5, 33 points, 6th position, 4 points off 4th (3 games in hand), GF 23, GA 20

Interesting caveats/thoughts

Last season
- Nuno loss 5 out of first 10
- By 18 we had only conceded 20 despite losing 3 of Nuno's games 3-0, it's 5 better than where we are now
- We needed West Ham & Scum to fall away, and we needed to keep in front of United

This season
- Harry's best first half to a season, we are up 14 goals on this time last year
- Conceded 5 more
- We need 1 of Scum, Saudi Sportswashing Machine or United to fall away, we need to keep Pool & Chelsea behind.

After 22 games this season 12-3-7, 39 points, 5th position, one point off 4th (Saudi Sportswashing Machine have played one less), GF 41 GA 31
After 22 games last season 13-3-6, 42 points, 4th position, one point off 3rd, GF 31 GA 23

It was after 22 games last season, following three successive PL defeats, that we started to turn a corner and get our brick together. So if we can use tonight's City performance as a springboard and go on a decent run we'll again have a decent chance of winning a Top Four Trophy.

We still went on a win one lose one streak for a while. We need end of last seasons form to kick in now. No reason why it couldn't the games coming up are winnable, including milan and chelsea.

Our record from 22 games on last season was W L W W L W W W W L D W D W W W.

That second L was the 2-3 against Man U that we surely would have won but for the freak Ronaldo hattrick.

But yeah, might need to throw one more W into the mix this time round in order to achieve top four.
