England squad for first Ashes Test

Ben Stokes (captain), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Mark Wood, Jofra Archer, Shoaib Bashir

For me Bashir will not play, Carse is a very good bowler, left armer so something different and can hold a bat too
If we need a few overs of spin we have Root & Brook

So they have announced Weatherald is opening the batting & Doggett is replacing Hazelwood he bowls around 140 & is the standout bowler in shield cricket. Seen a picture of the wicket on the news yesterday it looks green. The weather will be 28 with a light breeze 10km an hour. So perfect conditions for cricket.

If we don't win this first test we've got no chance. No Cummins, no Hazelwood - we need to take advantage and we can't afford to go behind early on in the series....

Reminds me of Gatting's tour when the Aussie press told us all his team could bat, bowl or field, the older of us will remember what happened.

That's not perfect conditions for cricket.

Cricket was designed to be played in places where one can use a Dukes ball without it falling apart. Not some uninhabitable desert.

I thought the uk was the only place left using Dukes. you might think its a desert but you would love to be sitting in the members drinking a scotch in 28 degrees heat with a nice cool breeze as Australia fall apart.

Correct, it is.

I don't think I would enjoy it, I'd be surrounded by Australians. They might mistake me for their wife and beat me up or, worse, try to make me drink some of their beer coloured water.

So do you get mistaken for a woman often. The only people who drink tinkle water are foreigners. Fosters & XXXX biggest sales yep the UK.

Not surprised they didn't pay for it though.

Not much to be made from showing cricket when the civilised world is asleep.
I think you would be surprised by how many people will be watching through the night
My boss (as Aussie) basically said no meetings before 10am until January now so that anybody who wants to watch the Ashes can
He actually thinks we will win 3-1 !!
