I am utterly convinced that some of Ndombele's issues were that he didn't have the right support structure around him
If you watch the Amazon documentary - there was that scene whereby he was chatting with Aurier and Moussa - they clearly were in effect looking after him. They leave he goes off the boil.
He also didn't have the right manager for his talents..
I am hoping we can see the best from him this season...

He has as much quality as any player in the Premier League. Some of things he can do on the ball are incredible. He also has really good vision and pass execution to go with his skill.

He has had two problems at Spurs. Firstly a lack of effort on the pitch. This has been inexcusable at times, though I don't think we yet know how much of this was down to him just not wanting to play for that particular manager. I say this because when he first came in under Pochettino he didn't seem to lack applicaiton.

The second problem is that he could be kicked out of the game too easily. It only took 2 or 3 heavy tackles (typically fouls) to see him not really want the ball and/or try to get rid of it very quickly. I think part of the problem here was how deep he had to play. Because he was often picking the ball up inside his own half the opposition basically got to take free swings at him and could foul him without really risking yellow cards. If Ange can instead get Ndombele on the ball much higher up the pitch then that is no longer the case and we could quickly see the opposition walking a tightrope of being on an early yellow card as well as now having a dead ball specialist in the team who could take advantage from the set pieces.

Of all of the players out on loan last year Ndombele is the one where there is the potential biggest upside. It might be that feeling wanted, feeling valued and him being the man for the team to get the ball to in attacking areas improves his mindset and gets him working hard for the team. It is human nature that you will give far more for somebody who you like, trust and admire than somebody who you don't.

Agree with that and a third linked to you second point is how he will handle a bad game IMO, its that seeming ability for him to be taken off and it sit with him for stewing for a few weeks. If he can get rid of that cloud that follows him around at times and the other areas can be worked on you have one of the most talented CMs in the league

But his reaction to getting tackles was weak
He wanted to get off the pitch
Change that.. we could be talking about a different player
 
Looking at some of the videos from the tour and training here and it seems from every video there is a huge emphasis on getting the play stretched wide at pace. Going to be interesting to see how it translates to matches, Son and Deki playing as real traditional wide men....
 
Something to think about - forget the past, and we sign a player like Ndombele: we'd be excited. The only thing that matters now is can he deliver. Now. In the present. Can Ange bring him to where he should be, consistently? I'd like to think so. Only time will tell tbh. He's been enormously frustrating ... entitled, not a grafter, giving up after one or two hard moments. But I'd far rather he was with us than not. I await with anticipation what Ange can do with him.

And I maybe expect to be disappointed again, but it's the hope that kills right?
 
Have to be honest, Ndombele is the player we have that most excites me because of what he can do on the ball. The skills he has are so rare in midfielders today. He's also been the biggest disappointment and I was convinced he was finished here.

If Ange can get a tune out of him, I might start to change my opinion on how successful I think he can be here.
