1. Kaboul. fudging rock solid this season, immense in many, many games. Growing to be a vital part of our first 11.
2. Ade. 17 goals, 12 assists! Excellent in a lot of games, fundamental to how this team plays.
3. Bale. TBH a very good season from Bale, but I still think it could have been so much more... mainly due to his CM wanderings in the latter third of the season.

honourable mentions: Parker, Friedel, BAE, Walker, Modric = all excellent this season.

I went with kaboul constantly had different partners in the back but he remained consistent and class. I also think Parker and Friedel were close seconds

nitpicking, the QPR lost was Friedel's mistake, he was positioned wrong, got himself wrong footed.

That said, otherwise excellent season

Harsh, you could argue that he was at fault for not stopping the free kick, but he was not at fault for us losing, you can blame that on the 10 outfield players who failed to capitalise on their superiority, opportunities and possession.

Very little in it between Kaboul - my second choice, and pretty much the entire first team squad, but in the end I voted other. Van Der Vaart would have been my choice.

For me he typifies everything that's best about the Tottenham tradition. He should surely have been on the list ahead of Sandro who though excellent recently has played only a handful.

Brad Fridel - 8 - Far better than I thought he'd be
Carlo Cudicini - 7 - Good backup

Kyle Walker - 7.5- Very good first season
Younes Kaboul - 8 - Finally showing maturity and experience. Most improved player by a mile.
William Gallas - 7 - Think we missed him more than we realised.
Ledley King - before Emirates Marketing Project away - 9. After Emirates Marketing Project away -4
BAE - 7 - More good games than bad.

Danny Rose - 5 - Lack of playing time, but can't think of any inspiring performances
Nelsen - 5.5 - Meh

Gareth Bale - 8.5 - Very good season, stayed fit, chipped in with a lot of goals and epitomised our fast, attacking football that won us so many plaudits this season.
Luka Modric - 7.5 - Not as good as last year but still kept the team ticking over.
Scott Parker - 7.5 - Slowed down towards the end of the season but was fudging awesome for the first 6 months.
Sandro Ranieri - 7 - Didn't get to play as much as we'd have liked and it took him a while to get going, but he was outstanding in the last few games.
Jake Livermore - 7 - Never thought he'd make it here but I'm happy to have him as a squad player now. Got better as the season went on.
Aaron Lennon - 7.5- Lots of injuries, but was generally very good when fit.

Rafael van der Vaart - 7 - Went missing for a big chunk in the middle of the season even before the rest of the team slumped, but he had a very good start and end to it.

Jermain Defoe - 7 - Considering he only started 21 games in all competitions, you can't really have asked for more than 17 goals.
Emannuel Adebayor - 8- Missed so many good chances, but only Van Persie, Rooney and Aguero have a higher goals + assists figure.

Louis Saha - 5- One good game, used more than he should have been on the back of it.
Giovanni Dos Satos - 4 - Hardly played, hardly impressed when he did.

Harry Redknapp - 7.5 - Monumental collapse, but after our highest finish since I've been a fan and so many great memories from such good football along the season, he has to take credit again, especially considering the lack of investment in the summer and the whole Modric situation.

That's true. You just know Gomes would have given at least 4 howlers away this season, as he did do 8 last seasoN!!

maybe he would have won 5 games on his own too...he was a true match winner the season we got 4th, the goon game at home was unbelievably from this point of view, single handedly denied RVP

Friedel - 8.5.. Almost tempted to say that he was out best player this season, the most commanding keeper of the box I??ve seen as a Spurs fan

Walker - 7.5.. Overall, a fantastic season considering his age. His performances this year were too much influenced by his injury. Why on earth did we let Corluka go? Would have been good as a cover to let Walker have a breather.

Kaboul - 8.5.. I thought he did not start well, but gained composure as the season progressed. Look really good with Gallas

King - 6.5.. Love the guy but he there were too many mistakes this year. His injury has done him over. Hope he stays with the club and maybe takes on a coaching role. If not injury prone for the last years he would have been England??s best defender.

Gallas - 7.. Fantastic buy and almost saved our season with really good performances while things were going bad.

Ekotto - 7.5.. Think he had a great season. Maybe the same problem as with Walker, played too many games.

Lennon - 6.. Did not play much, good perfomances while fit. Looking forward to next year!

Parker - 8.5.. My word, he looked like the boss for the first half of the season! Became a bit unconsistant in the last quarter of the season. Our best player for the first half of the season and a fantastic buy by Harry

Sandro - 7.. Things could have been a lot better if he would have stayed fit. Solid while fit and had some amazing performances.

Livermore - 8.. Giving him an 8. Considering his lack of experience, he had a really fantastic season. At Everton at home he looked like he could be the next Parker. Never let anybody down while coming on, very consistent imo.

Modric - 8.5.. After his sulk be became our best player. Simply world class. Not expecting him to stay though, but who knows if Chelsea lose the CL final and City opt for Hazard.

Bale - 8.. yeah, scored goals, can look like the best winger in the world on his day. I dont understand the free role though, if Harry could just glue him to the wing....

van der Vaart - 7.5.. I dont think he played a whole game as a fit footballer. Had good performances considering that. A true Yid!

Adebayor - 8.. Played/assist 30 goals. Nuff said..

Defoe - 6.5.. Honestly dont like the guy, selfish and lazy. But his eye for goal and finishing is perhaps the best in the prem. I honestly think though we look like 10 men when we start him.

Friedel - 7 - Solid if not unspectacular. Must do better with aerial balls

Walker - 7.5. Good breakthrough season, some work to do in the final third and on nullifying tricky wingers but it looks like he could be a star

Kaboul - 8.5 A Colossus at the back and wins everything in the air, must not get forwad too much

King - 7 - immense in the first half, injury screwed his second half over

Gallas - 7.5 - Solid and covered well when necessary

Ekotto - 7 - Unspectacular and did the job, a few games where he has not looked his best

Lennon -7 - not much game time but glimpses of what he can do when on form

Parker - 6.5 - Tireless in the first half of the season and gave the players a mental lift without affecting the actual play positively a liability in the second half

Sandro - 7.5 -Added some much need physicality and athleticism to CM and dominated games. Not played enough however and took a while to find form

Livermore - 7 decent breakthrough season, at times glimpses of good potential to become a carrick like player.

Modric - 8 amazing in the first half of the season but restricted by parker's wandering around in the second.

Bale - 8 he scores and creates goals, we expect too much of him

van der Vaart - 8.5 - so vital in our possession play, we collapse without him, not as standout at last year but he players for the team

Adebayor - 8 - essential for our hold up play and score some vital goals but also missed some as well.

Defoe - 7 did ok but needs to do more when he starts.

Saha - 5 - A few good goals but nothing to contribute

Krancjar 6- disapointing never got form due to bad squad rotation

Rose - 6 - young but he doesn't have any stand out attributes to make it as a FB.

Nelsen - 6.5 not a gamechanging defensive rock but solid enough and did nothing too wrong.

Dawson - 7 - Injury prone but reliable when he was called upon

Redknapp - 6 - did a lot right but a lot wrong with Transfer policy and squad rotation.

Hi! Long time lurker and now it's obviously the time to show myself :). Since LLB went missing.

I've made a small application that converts your posted ratings to the database, so I've been collecting your ratings throughout the season. The data I've got is: match date, competition, opponent, Tottenham's goals, opponent's goals, home/away, board username and the rating itself. Yes, I've collected on how each and every one of you voted :). The problem is if anyone changed their name on the new board and didn't made that public, there will be two of you.

Now, for the introductory post, this is the average rating for the whole season in all competitions. These averages aren't a simple mean, but are weighted for the number of votes per game. Bolton home (i think) had only 1 user voted, and Arsenal home had 27 if I remember correctly. So, I made a logarithmic distributed factor, 1 rating has factor 1, and 27 has around 1.6. Didn't want to make too much weight.

Interesting. Thanks!

This is players' standard deviation. It's about the consistency of the player. How much player's ratings deviate from his average. I put only Premier League games and players with at least 10 matches, lower than that would be inaccurate. So, Gallas was the most consistent.

Code:
Player StdDev # Matches
Gallas 0,62 15
Friedel 0,83 38
Livermore 0,87 18
Walker 0,88 37
Defoe 1,10 23
Lennon 1,11 23
Modrić 1,12 36
Parker 1,14 28
Kaboul 1,15 33
BAE 1,16 34
VdV 1,19 33
Adebayor 1,24 33
Sandro 1,29 21

Good work Nole

I'm sure you are a great guy as well, but your stat-work alone makes you a stand out poster !

Regards

Well done. LLB is fired (just kidding .... sabbatical).

The trend is good to see and probably tallies with everyone's recollection of how the season went.

Excellent work Nole - perhaps you could write a blog post for the front page of the board ? or someone else could do so using the stats you provide ?

Here's my alternative take:

1. Defence - below average, given the capabilities of our players, but can be mainly explained by the number of injuries which never gave us to settle our CB partnership. Some lapses in concentration across the back four, but not too worried about that.

2. Midfield - one of the best in the league, excellent depth. if there's any critique its how we fail to utilize the players we have to have more variation and unpredictability in the game. e.g. instead of just tippy-tappy footie around the midfield, we could feign weakness and then break fast on the counter.

3. Wings - the BEST in the league if you consider BOTH sides... Bale, Walker, BAE, Lennon... undefendable on our day. Only sore point is Bale going missing from his wing role especially in the second half of the season.

4. Attack - a mixed bag... did score quite a number, did miss quite a number too... but it was hard considering that our midfield usually wasn't fast enough or unpredictable in supply. At times we seemed to lack the killer instinct too. However this pales in comparison to our inability to capitalize on set pieces.
