Saido Berahino

We need this kind of player. He can play alongside Kane or to give him a rest as a point striker. He has the pace, he can dribble, score goals from range is young and can get better and is used to the Premier league. If we got him in and then Pritchard pushes on then we may well have our wide forward positions set.

Manuel Pellegrini has declared that he is unlikely to buy another striker but suggested Emirates Marketing Project could move for Kevin De Bruyne by revealing he expects further signings.

City have lost one centre-forward already, with Stevan Jovetic joining Inter Milan, and are expected to part company with another, with Edin Dzeko likely to sign for Roma.

But although that would leave him with just Sergio Aguero and Wilfried Bony as senior specialist centre-forwards, Pellegrini said City are targeting other departments of their team.

De Bruyne was one of City's three main summer targets, along with Raheem Sterling, who they bought for £49 million, and Paul Pogba, but their interest in the Juventus midfielder has cooled.

Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking has said he expects to keep De Bruyne but the former Chelsea midfielder has admitted he is unsure where his future lies.

In an interview with Sport 1, De Bruyne said: "I won't say that I'll stay, only to leave the club two weeks later. I only try to be honest.

"Everything's great here for me right now. But also I know that a lot of things are written about me in media. What's deciding for me is that I am fit when the season really kicks off in one or two weeks."

Meanwhile, Pellegrini has said he could use Sterling as a striker along with the teenage Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho.

"We have Kelechi, that is a young player who I think must find a place here in our squad," Pellegrini said at City Live.

"Sterling can also play in front. I think we are going to bring in other players but not in that position."

De Bruyne's Wolfsburg teammate Bas Dost said in kicker: "Of course, I'd rather keep him here. But to be honest: We have many very good footballers here.

"It's not like we'd be a bad team should Kevin move on. Let's see what happens. It's about a lot of money by now, it's madness. That's no longer normal.

"€60 million here, €70 million there, you can no longer call that serious!"

City have also signed two young strikers, in Patrick Roberts and Enes Unal, but the Turkish forward has been loaned to Belgian club Genk.

Pellegrini also vowed to regain the Premier League title, which he won in the 2013-14 season.

"I am absolutely sure that we are going to have a very successful season. We must bring back the title here to our fans," he added.

"We are sure, as I have just said, that we are going to bring it back. We had a good preseason."

Pellegrini rarely lies and what he says makes sense, so id say the road to Berahino is pretty clear now and we should try and do a deal asap

Really need to bring the guy in, I don't want to be going into the Utd. match with just Kane as a usable striker. That's just ridiculous. Really want to be logging on this evening and seeing "Berahino Official" all over the place.

Spurs have potentially been handed a boost in their pursuit of West Brom striker Saido Berahino with Baggies boss Tony Pulis admitting the striker’s future is not secured.

Pulis appeared on BBC Radio Five Live's Premier League launch show and addressed a query on whether the England Under-21 international would remain at the Hawthorns next season:

“The chairman will decide that. For me, or any other manager, to sit here and say ‘this player is not for sale’ is complete and utter nonsense.

“You saw it with Bale… if big clubs come in and offer the money, inevitably they go.”

Pulis went on to reiterate his desire for the player to remain at West Brom, hinting that the Hawthorns could be a better venue for his on-going development.

“He’s a young lad and we hope that we can keep him for another couple of years because he’s still improving,” said the Baggies boss.

His words should give the Spurs hierarchy encouragement but a deal, of course, depends on what West Brom determine ‘the money’ is.

The London Evening Standard have reported that a fee upwards of £20 million will be required to prise Berahino away from the Baggies – a figure Spurs are unlikely to match.

The pacey forward would be an excellent addition to a Spurs squad currently boasting Harry Kane as their only reliable option up top.

His flexibility across the front would provide welcome cover and variety to a Spurs attack which is fairly limited, at this point, and the Lilywhites should be doing their utmost to get a deal over the line.

Apparently in the same interview he said that he thought Pochettino's Southampton was the most tactically astute team in the league and he had heard that we had been doing a lot of work on tactics in the pre-season. I didn't hear this first hand, so take with a pinch of salt!

Berahino is worth every penny of £20 million in today's market. A young, English, PL proven striker who is still improving. I have thought he was the best option for us to bring in for about 18 months or so now. Let's just get it done before another club steps in or it gets too late in the window for WBA to spend any of the money they get for him.

Agreed. The spurs board (gonna use this term in future as I have been tough on Levy and not everything is his fault) like the idea of Townsend etc being valued at £15 million or so, but think other young English players are too expensive.

What is this belief based on?

You don't know what price, if any, we would accept for Townsend or what price, if any, we would offer for Berahino.

Good post. You have to pay a premium for strikers, unless you get very lucky and find one for a really good price abroad. Given how young he is, it's not that much of a gamble.

I hope it does happen. Berahinho ticks a lot of boxes and he has the mentality to take a move to Spurs in his stride. Levy time.

signing Rondon would be quite a coup for West Brom. He should do well in the PL and could play for a much better club than the Baggies imo

arent West Brom playing Emirates Marketing Project on Monday? i wouldnt like risking Berahino playing them, scoring a hattrick or having a man of the match performance, and thus make Pellegrini change his mind about needing another striker:mad:
