Postiga's agent is also AVB's agent, so its obvious where Levy found out about Valencia's replacement for Soldado and thus wanted to renegotiate the fee for Soldado

Let me refresh your recall on last January. I was aware that we had a small amount of money -next to none- at that time. I did NOT want to see us spunk it on an average striker. The strikers available in January were NOT within our price range at that time. AVB was aware that this summer window was the one where he could spend a bot more freely due to a variety of issues. Thus I was against signing some sort of last-inute top-gap dross and taking money away from this window. If we complete the Soldado deal, it will have been the right move.

I'm not sure you fully comprehended my opinion at the time, but it was very very clear. What's more, I learnt that there WAS a chance of signing Ba (at the time I thought insurance had knackered it) but that AVB didn't feel he was worth the money given our budget/how it would affect this window, and decided to go with Defoe, Ade and Bale.

As for your last sentence, not sure if you saw my post on the matter, but 'tis the reason (as I understand it) that JL has authorized an extra spend, because he realizes that one requires the other and that we have a fantastic chance right now.

I think its a done deal.

I think Valencia have to be seen to be playing hard ball coupled with them having a replacement all lined up and ready.

I haven't seen a lot from him bar from the typical youtube videos, which depict him as a good finisher (surprise surprise...). But is he good at hold up play etc?

I think he'll be decent/good but nowhere near Berbatov material.

doesn't sound like the same kind of player as Berbatov going by others who know Spanish football on here, more of a goal scorer than anything else.

his record in Spain for several years now is 1 in 2 (slightly over that iirc actually) he is first choice for the national team where he also has a 1 in 2 record

Fair.

I guess I think Soldado is still able to be effective against deep sitting defences, in that he's got the movement to find space in the crowd. My reaction was more against the idea of Remy or even Benteke playing in a side without a specialist playmaker.

Ideally I'd still like us to sign another player in the mould of Bernard for LF to give complete harmony along the front line. Or maybe bring in Osvaldo (and sell both Defoe and Ade) as a creative option for #9. Otherwise we're going to have to hope the passing and movement between the quartet of Paulinho, Dembele, Chadli, Bale gives us enough 'collective creativity'. To me the signing of Chadli suggests AVB things that is viable.

I'm certainly happy to admit my thinking evolves, sometimes within a few days. I hope there's a rationale to it though, rather than inconsitency.
 
I like Bernat, think I mentioned him on here last season, or perhaps on SC. Either way he looks a decent player.
