One gettable player and your team

Whoever is gettable that is the closest to Luka Modric in terms of ability and playing style. I have no idea who that is, but Baldini probably has an idea or two.

Would you be prepared to sell Dembele to accomodate him?

Gago, Sahin and Banega are the obvious ones that spring to mind, Cabaye maybe too.

Baldini's already signed Gago twice in his career, so would probably be the leading candidate.

Holtby, Sigurdsson, Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue all play in the central positions and all signed since AVB has taken over. I actually don't think a playmaker would change us much (if at all).

Is Gago still struggling with injuries? Would be a big gamble if so.

I rated Sahin about as highly as possible when he was at Dortmund first time around, he was available cheaply from Real though and we sat on the fence when we could have snapped him up. Can't see how anything's changed and I doubt he would leave Dortmund for us at this point anyway.

Banega was one of the players I most wanted us to sign this summer. There was a transfer wishlist thread and I think I had him near the top, would be a fantastic signing I think. If someone like that could be brought in I would be willing to sacrifice Dembele as it would give us a much more balanced set of central midfield options.

Cabaye would be good too and with him being used to the PL already he would be a very intriguing signing imo as he would be more likely to make a quick impact.

The one player I have always wanted and now particularly because we have sold Bale and want to play an inverted winger system is Arda Turan.

He is two footed but primarily right. He's played full-back in the past (if I'm not mistaken started of as a right back) can thread passes through and knows how to shoot. I think he would compliment Lamela on the other wing perfectly. This would mean the player in between them will need to suit both (is this the Erikssen we are hoping for?). With Lamela and Turan, I think Soldado will definitely not be starved of any service! Not sure if the fact he plays in Spain will help him develop an understanding with the Spaniard too? Just watch Atletico Madrid, he is a vital player for them...

Is he gettable? Well LFC have been linked and they don't play ECL - I think however he has stated that they are the team he has liked in the EPL, not sure how much of that is true. Turkish players also want to play in the EPL and I think are more open to the teams out of the top 4 spots too. His release clause is in the £30m bracket as far as I'm aware and I suspect we'd need to get pretty close to that.

So effectively...

----------------------Lloris-----------------------
Walker-------Chiri/Kaboul-----Verts------Rose/Andros
----------------------Sandro/Capoue---------------------
--------------Pauli/Dembele---Siggi/Erikssen---------
-----Lamela-------------------------Turan------------
---------------------Soldado-----------------------

I'd be tempted to move closer to a 4-3-3 purely because it may get the best out of Erikssen (read the Telegraph article).

Tbh, I'd be inclined to look for a LWB too but defence hasn't been our main concern.

Where's the goals in that team? Most of the front 6 won't get beyond 5 in a season. The trio are all creative, but Ade's not a goal machine. In fact Ade works best with more direct wide players feeding off him (like Bale), rather than indirect players feeding him.

They'll all score 30 each guaranteed. That's just in the league

I'd love us to try for Lukaku. Unlikely transfer I know considering the club selling him but we might not be rivals for the top 4 spots much longer. No threat to them anymore

Sahin?? good GHod doesnt even his spell at liverpool put people off? Even back at Dortmund he is proving to be average. Not lived up to the hype

one gettable player...id go for Benteke. Some muscle up top and id pair him with Soldado. Fcuk this one striker up top bollox

If we buy Benteke, we'd have to play Lennon and Towsend supporting him. Lamela and Eriksen wouldn't work in the same set-up as him.

Which is why they'll want to keep us down.

Honestly, Lukakua won't go anywhere. Next season and probably eveyr season for the next 8 years he'll be playing up front for Chelsea and getting 30+ goals a season.

IF they were to sell him it would certainly not be to a team in the PL and certainly not to us.

Nacho Monreal

I'm not entirely sure if Arsenal would sell him, but hes currently their 2nd choice left back and also Spain's 2nd choice too. So clearly a very good player. And has impressed me with his ability and attitude every time i've seen him bar that game against us last season.

I think he would solve our left back problems and provide a good balance to our defense considering that Walker loves to bomb forward.

What about that Demba Ba, then?

I personally wouldn't mind Ba or Benteke for that matter. But if we can get Adebayor's head straight, i'd rather that option. As an in form adebayor is as good as anyone, and would be a whole lot cheaper than buying the likes of Benteke.

Also i think avb is trying to get soldado playing in the falcao role (at porto). But for some reason it just isnt working yet. However i still have high hopes that it will eventually work out, and therefore i consider us to have 3 top strikers and do not really think we should buy a striker (yet ;) )

I agree. But does AVB?
He unlocked JD's potential early last season. Clark Carlisle said JD is over trained to last a season but well trained for the 1st half.
That might be bollox but he ain't had a chance this term. IMO he ain't good enough to change a game but he is ideal to close a game coming from the bench. Eg we are one up he will score the second.

i think defoe would struggle at the moment if he played tbh. much for the same reasons that soldado is finding it tough. they are both penalty box specialists without much ability to be involved in the build up.

for some reason we are not able to get the ball into the box fast enough due to our laboured build-up play in midfield. maybe due to a lack of chemistry as we have many new players. but once we become fluid again, i believe its possible for us to improve on our level of the past 2/3 seasons, and get both defoe and soldado firing.

on a side note, i still think getting a left back such as nacho monreal would benefit us greatly tho.
