***OMT: Tottenham Hotspur v West 'Am United - WHL, Sun 22nd Feb, KO - 12pm

If there was going to be one game that we were going to suffer in it was this. Europa league hangover, little time to prepare for the game, excitement over the cup final with no one wanting to get injured, this being their cup final, and actually being half decent this season. Yet despite all of that we had the testicular fortitude to come back and snatch a draw.

Yes it was lucky, but then they were lucky that Kane didn't connect properly when he hit the post, or Rose connected a little too well when he nodded over the bar, or that mason first gave away an unnecessary free-kick and then dembele gave away possession which led to their first, or the fact that their second was offside.

These games always are affected by fine margins. Goals affect games.

This team has some grit. They won't let us down in terms of effort. Very proud of them representing our football club right now

Brilliant post.

I doubt you will find anyone outside partial Spurs fans who think we actually deserved to win today.

I agre, 'deserve' might be a bit over the top, but in fairness it was employed as a reaction to the some of darker responses to today. We didn't play that well, it was an off-day, but you would still have a pretty clear case to suggest we deserved to win based on shots, saves, the post, Noble staying on the pitch, possession and the fact they were clearly offside for the second goal. In fact hang on...I reverse my earlier statement. We deserved to win, because even though we were were poor, West 'Am were fekkkking pony!!!!!!;)

Prior to Kane taking the penalty, the channel showing the match here in the US showed his penalty conversion rate: 5 attempted and only 3 scored. After today he's at 50%, converting 3 of 6. I know his confidence is high, but with Solly on the pitch why not have the "specialist" take it?

Anyhow, just a small observation. Otherwise, I agree with most of what has been said re never-die attitude. Great to see it in a team that gave up so easily last season. That in itself is huge progress.

Confidence is key, Kane has it right now Soldado hasn't. And how long back do we go for his last six penalties?

We haven't had a good penalty taker for years, Van Der Vaart was the last I reckon

Yes.
If Bobby had missed it he might not have had his head up to follow in. Kane did brilliantly to stay alert.

**** off Kane, you diving prick.

Terrible decision on the penalty...cheating c**nts

We tinkled on them for 70 minutes. Then Noble went off...

Kane is a ****ing cheat. Hope he gets a career ending injury. I ****ing hate divers and con-artists in football. A scourge on the game.

How is he allowed to score the rebound. Penalty was taken after the alloted time.

Never a penalty in a million ****ing years. Look at Kane's completely unnatural left leg movement. Very very very poor from the officials.

What a ****ing load of **** this is, how the **** does he get the job of Chief Football Writer at a national newspaper and come out with nonsense like that.

We lost because of Alex Song, stupid to make contact in the box at that point. Kane was always going down. Has been s*** the last 2 months and is not worth the £15 million required to sign him. He cost us today

Effectively we were absolutely robbed by two bits of luck - a miss hit into the ground and what appeared to be a dive at first glance for a penalty from a pretty inconsistent ref (Not including that Adrian saved it And it went back to Kane).

not just a soft penalty but never a penalty at all. Trouble is that Kane is flavour of the month in the game at the min, people are lining up to suck him off, always gets decision. Can't be arsed to look it up but those curntycurnts seem to have had a lot of penalties this past few games.

I smashed my hand through my girlfriends favorite picture (including glass) when the ref gifted them that penalty. Girlfriend went mental at me. Now in bed in the foetal position considering drowning my sorrows.

I wouldn't mind clarification on the whole scoring the rebound off the penalty after the alotted time situation. If that's correct its a monumental balls up by the ref. Theoretically, couldn't the result be overturned as there was no further play? It's a black and white decision surely?

I enjoyed Sams after match interview more...especially when he said "...when you're as desperate as Tottenham are."

Anyone remember that last minute penalty not given when Song was taken out against Villa this season?

Same ref as today.

I detest them, absolutely ****ing detest them and Harry Kane, if he got injured badly tomorrow, I wouldn't care, the turncoat who celebrated Arsenals league win and the foolish filth fans believe he is "one of their own"

So I managed to speak to a friend, who is an FA qualified ref. He maintains Moss should have blown for time the moment Adrian made the save and not allowed Kane to score from the rebound..

Conclusion = we wuz robbed.

Surprise surprise, Kane is a good lad so no dive according to MOTD.

Walking into work and sitting there all smug with the Spurs lot all quiet. We know, they know, football knows that we're starting to become a direct rival to them

And they hate it!

Their first goal was lucky, Rose didn't hit it right, it sliced the ground and bounced over Adrian. The pen, well, I don't think it was a ****ing pen. They were rolling around all game, and the ref couldn't wait to give it, in the 96th minute.

I could only get through a small fraction of their post-match comments.

Lovely stuff, LOL. Some deluded folks there. Probably just very angry their team threw away a two goal lead though.

Interesting claim that the ref should have blown the whistle immediately after the penalty was taken though. Sounds like sour grapes to me, but is there actually something to it? West Ham were time wasting like crazy even in extra time, so there were plenty of additional time to be added on top of the five minutes, IMO.

My favorite is their and fat sams insistence that the final whistle should have been blown the moment the penalty was saved.

1). when has that ever happened.
2). We dont know how long the ref was allowing due to westhams time wasting - may have been 6 minutes anyway
3). they wasted about 1 minute after the pen was given hence the ref has the right to add it on.

4) . Mugs are just muggy

I don't think that argument holds much water as the added time is just a minimum. The ref can add on more at his discretion.

the comments there are hilarious, especially the one questioning whether or not the result could be overturned

when has the ref ever blown for time with the ball bouncing around in the box?

There's a couple of rules that apply here:

1) The time of a match is extended until a penalty kick is completed.
2) The referee decides when the penalty is completed.

So it's up to interpretation as far as I can tell. If the ref feels that the rebound is a part of the penalty then it is.

The other interpretation is that the foul occurred on 94:45 meaning that there was 15 seconds of play left. If the following delays were down to time-wasting (and much of it was down to their keeper fudging about and their players not moving out of the box) then he is right to add on more time.

If the ref is going on time indicated plus any extra accruing, that is well and good.

I think the issue is him blowing 'immediately' after the goal, which could suggest to some that the penalty was deemed to be at the end of play. Given that their guys seriously encroached the ref should have ordered a retake .... but effectively played advantage, so there must have been time remaining. I can't see from the MotD coverage when the ref blew nor any other of his final actions beyond following the rebound very intently.

I suspect there was 20-30secs in the refs mind, which would be used in any normal celebration and restart, so the ref blowing during the celebrations was about right.

Law 14 - http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/laws/football-11-11/law-14---the-penalty-kick

As for Slim Sam (I speak as a Stoutist) wondering where 5mins came from, subs & bookings are predominantly 2nd half activities, each of which has a nominal 20s?. Add treatment of injuries - again a 2nd half 'thing' - and you very rarely see <3 mins, often 4. There was a lot of ref chat/heckling, so minimum of 5 was about right.

As for MotD moaning about refs - time wasted and referee decision overload is TOTALLY down to the players and management, but ALL teams have to change. Stop the cheating, let the ref be a spectator and timekeeper.
