*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur FC v Aston Villa ***

Problem is we don’t have the options;

Start Tel and Odobert people say they aren’t ready….

Start Johnson instead people say he’s a passenger…

Start Richy, people say we lack a striker…

Solanke injured, RKM only back today, we just need better options overall. He has to play someone in the meantime.

We finished 17th last season, there’s work to be done all over.
Tel and Odobert are not ready, start senior players like Richy and Muani. With Richy - Muani - Kudos from start we win this game easy.
Every time awe put a cross in it got dangerous in the end.

One of those frustrating games. Often seems to happen at home, where we go ahead, then don't play particularly well. Thought Frnak might have changed things up earlier 2nd half. But at home, we're too easily rattled and frantic. We need patience, confidence, for assurness. More precision in the final third too.

Still, I think we played okay for most of the game. First half especially. Lost some discipline as we tired. We need a front 4 who gel, get into a rythm and get some confidence. Frank needs to choose his best attackers and then just stick with them ignoring all fans bullzhit until they start to harmonise.
It's not about us being rattled at home. It's just easier for us away from home because the home team comes at you and there are more gaps for you to counter attack. At home where the onus is on us to be creative, we simply aren't. We have no style of play going forward at all. Get it to Kudus and pray for something to happen is not going to cut it.

The excuse about how we can't expect to be good attacking wise because we have to focus on defending at this stage is flimsy, there is no way we are not working on attacking in training. Yes a lot of attacking players aren't good enough, but you would still hope to see a style of play and you would then say fair enough it's not working because we don't yet have the quality. But it's just dull....

It's alright. Game of fine margins, and we lost to a couple of wonder strikes, though we're looking pretty blunt in front of goal ourselves. The movement and solidity is there - just lacking penetration.

Ultimately, it's a squad problem. Udogie being injured (and unfortunately, now entering 'injury-prone' territory) means we often have no 'natural' left back who can provide a threat down that side, and it makes us blunt. Spence has his strengths, but his left foot is not one of them - he will always, 100% of the time, cut in on his right, and that makes him predictable and essentially shuts the attack down.

The squad will be in a healthier place when we have two natural left backs, and Spence moved to be Porro's rotation on the right where he can be on his favored foot more.

Other than that, another striker would be welcome - someone better than Richy, less injury-prone than Solanke, less raw than Tel. And eventually, Frank will have to see that a Bentancur-Palhinha midfield isn't necessarily the best one to impose our game on the opponent - bit much of a muchness there.

But like I said, not too worried on the whole. Just lost to random chance, it happens.
Which is what we have been needing for the past 15yrs. Hopefully now under the "new look" we get things addressed

That’s fine, e

That’s fine, except Muani has been fit today only, and probably not fit to play 90 or close to it. I agree, if play Richy personally, but he can only play who is fit, perhaps he will from now if Muani is actually ready to go.

odobert needs a loan out - we need better quality out there instead of relying on just kudus

TF got the timing of the subs wrong imo. putting on richy was like deflating a balloon - he wasn't doing anything useful and the pressure that tel provided was suddently gone.

kudus was definitely not at his best probably after his exploits for country - TF needs to find a way to rely less on him or risk him getting burned out or worse, injured through overuse

Well, we had a pretty good spell with Rose and Davies when Danny was at his peak, so I wouldn't say 15 years. More like 5 - since Rose left, we've had at most one fit left back at a time, since Udogie is now a sick note and Davies had a late-career transition into left centre-back.

Agreed though, hopefully a change in transfer habits brings with it a second left back to solve this problem. Maybe as soon as January - honestly, it's the one position where I think we could get a good player and immediately improve our chances for the second half of the season. Left wing, our main targets are probably out of reach during the season. Striker, no way - too few on the market right now after the insanity of the summer.

But there are good left backs out there who would be upgrades, and probably available in January.

Lads leaving early and others booing. Your ticket price entitles you to watch the game and to watch a team trying. Nothing more. That’s what we got. We just weren’t good enough.

Exactly. People must surely know this. Such is the nature of competitive sport. If they think the price of admission should guarantee them fun, a win with a minimum amount of goals - fudging hell, you're at the wrong place. Go watch some Wrestling or something.

Personally if both Richy and Muani don't have 90 min in their legs I would have started Lucas as striker can at least head a ball and hold off defenders.

Tel is years from being ready for the PL. Needs to be loaned out to Belgium/Netherlands/Championship or somewhere, he would not make a starting line up in any other PL team, probably not even a squad player.

If you think taking Tel off was deflating the game you really need to go rewatch it

We are just missing most of our senior attackers. Who thought you need to be patient with younger players. No surprises really.

I was being melodramatic! But under the last few managers we have ignored positions that needed back ups.
But I agree with you😀
