OMT: Mighty Spurs vs Brighton & Hove Albion

As poor as it was I hope it will bring home to everyone that we desperately need a centreback, you can have the best fullbacks in the world but without a decent centre to your defence you will lose more than you win.

We need depth

- One more CB and you don't concede 4
- One more midfielder and you create a couple more chances
- A rotation option for Johnson/Deki/Son and you maybe get another goal or two as well

Nothing new, nothing anyone at the club doesn't know, this was always a mutli-window job ..

You *think* we have an outstanding crop. Until they play professional games and prove themselves in first team football they are just potential.
And that’s the kicker
If we don’t give them a chance we will never know
What we do know is we have a knackered front line and a CB pairing that is full backs being played out of position. The games we have done that in we have lost… that’s factually correct
I can’t see his playing a younger centre back would produce a worse outcome than losing

But at least if would be centre backs playing their own position
We're probably not going to agree on this but I'd make one more point. Obviously, I'd rather have either Romero or VdV or both playing but neither Emerson or Davies was really at fault for their goals.

The first one, Deki and Sonny are watching the Brighton lad get acres of space.
The second one Deki does one of the dumbest things I've seen on a pitch for a while.
The third one Johnson and Deki don't put enough pressure on the ball although I would say we dealt horribly with the long ball that led to the corner.
The fourth one GLC makes a dumb challenge.

Neither Emerson or Davies had a great game albeit they were no worse than anyone bar Vicario.

I'll be pedantic but we did draw with the best side on the planet with those two full backs albeit we conceded 3.

No, we don't. We're just not putting away some of the great chances we're creating. If you want to see a team that relies on luck, that would be Spam not us.
Watched the last 30 mins of their game last night. It's reminiscent of Conteball or Joseball but they were excellent. It wasn't luck, they got bodies in the way time and time again and Woolwich had no answer. Can't remember their keeper making anything other than basic saves.

Moyes is a much better manager than a lot of people credited him with.

I said that yesterday so we do agree
The goals came from our attackers failing in their roles
But.. we conceded 4 goals and there is clearly no leadership at the back

Moyes plays his game, his way, and get results.

Fair point and I'd agree that's where Romero and VdV were probably missed most of all last night. But then I'd ask, is an 18 year old going to gonad the likes of Son and Deki out of it on their debut for not doing their jobs? You stand a better chance of getting that out of Dier.

Dier isn’t gonna be here though so we learn nothing
Now, with injuries, is the chance to try someone out
When we have a full squad… we will never see the youngsters get a game
Playing someone out of position sends a horrendous message to a younger player IMO
I like you… but not enough to play you.

Lots of complaints about Johnson not getting out to Estupnian, but Kulusevski is just as guilty in my opinion. Maybe neither of them would have got there, but just a sign of the lack of energy that killed us in many areas.

I know there is a lot of stick flying about for the goal, but honestly you'd be happy if shoots from there 99 out of a hundred.

Do Var hear the match commentary?
A big difference in Gary neville description of Romero and Udogie tackling to that pair last night.
How dunk wasn't red carded and balbena never even got a yellow is a total mystery.
According to the BBC website we conceded six fouls, they led to two pens and two bookings.
Bha had 18 fouls and two cards. And those stats don't count the fouls balbena made and "advantage" was played.
I've been told we're the most fouled team in the league, yet have one of the worst card counts.

Two soft pens, a worldie strike and a to be fair very good pass for the first goal.
We got done, but I don't think the doom and gloom is totally warranted.
If Richy had timed his runs better and looked down the line he gets the two goals. Add that in the first half the only real difference between us was that Brighton were actually willing to shoot whereas we constantly overplayed in the tightness of the penalty box. Super frustrating performance from an attacking perspective. We looked for the perfect goal too much.

They were clear pens though
But we lost because of the attack…
The wastefulness with the passing and overkill was awful

It's interesting that the focus has jumped from kulu and son holding onto the ball too long to Richie going to early.
