Winding people up is something I seem to do naturally, there is no "trying" involved! ;)

My assumption was going by the post that you were both white and straight but I'm always happy to admit it I was incorrect if that isn't the case. I'm not suggesting that you have never been persecuted or had knowledge of others going through it but simply as the chat referred to homosexuality and race being used as a ploy / card - In my opinion it's a stance that is often demeaning of people who face real life prejudice.

No disrespect meant on anything you've gone through or your knowledge / experience of persecution other than what your initial post suggested. Perhaps the last paragraph was a generalization too far as it could suggest a complete lack of empathy so I'll happily retract it, not looking for a row. I do still find it interesting that you were seemingly irritated by the suggestion from Schofield that homophobia has fueled the outrage, if you wanted to expand on that it'd be interesting to hear.

I think Schofield is using being gay as a way of clouding the issue of abuse of power, like politians wrapping themselves with the flag and accuse their critics of attacking the nation not their actions. I couldn't care less about anyone's sexual tendencies, it's their business, it's the hypocrisy of celebrities who crave as much media coverage they can get as long as it's about how lovely they are.

I'd say Kevin Spacey was a fair example of doing exactly what you've suggested but not sure I see it with Schofield as it seems a lot more of a grey area (from what we know at this point in time and if what the guy stated in that beeb interview is true). I'm still not seeing a clear cut case for abuse of power or exploitation, not everything compares well but nothing on the lines of other examples that I've mentioned.

As for celebrities craving positive coverage, that does seem like a fairly human trait, unless you're actively on a self destructive path seeking infamy / controversy, people like to project a positive image and get the validation of it being confirmed by others.

I worked in daytime/entertainment TV for many years, its very very common that young people enter the industry through someone they or a family member know.

I can't speak specifically to this situation, but whatever the two ends of this spectrum are, I could easily see how either happened. Live TV is its own world.

Most people like to be liked, but don't go out of their way to get it confirmed, I've dealt with quite a few "celebrities/personalities" in my job and most seemed pretty decent people but a few have been totally different from the image they portray in the media and believe we are all here to service their whims.

The media in full of nepotism, I got my son in, my wife got her sisters in and I worked with dozens of people who had family in the company. Not fair I know but that's the nature of the beast and I never expected to gain anything for myself from my actions.

You have sex with your wife though. So yes in essence you are a groomer, hang your head in shame.

New Black Mirror out on the 16th

I was a little underwhelmed by season 5 apart from Striking Vipers which was a thought provoking look at VR technology in gaming fused with themes of morality and identity. Quality over quantity is great and all but three episodes alongside the bandersnatch thing didn't quite hit the heights of previous seasons.

USS Callister, Hated in the Nation and San Junipero are my top three. The adaptability shown by the crew to move from one genre to another whilst bringing something new to it in a usually mind blowing way is truly impressive.

It's not as if we needed anymore dystopian disaster porn as you only need to turn on the news these days but hopefully it'll be a strong season.

I think Charlie Brooker mentioned that a couple years ago. Said how it was difficult to write new ones because the world has gone mental etc. I'll still watch them, Better than 99% of the other s**t on streaming sites

Bad sisters on Apple is well worth a watch
Worryingly I’m also enjoying FUBAR on Netflix. It’s actually brick but watchable brick…

3 point post -

1. Just watched the last episode of Jessica Walter in Archer for the first time. What a poignant and beautiful way to a send off of an animated character and a special lady. It was genuinely touching. If you don't appreciate her work in Arrested Development or Archer you just don't appreciate comedy. Realistically the show has probably seen it's best days and has done it all and lost a main character, I hear the next season is the last which makes sense.

2. Watched the "Beyond the Sea" episode of the new black mirror series. Aaron Paul is all kinds of brilliant and true to form the episode raised some dark questions in relation to human behavior and technology. It's a shallow point but his wife in the episode epitomizes the art of being strangely attractive, she is stunning in a slightly odd way.

3. Just arrived at season 5 of Bojack Horseman in my second viewing. You could ignore the storylines and dialogue and just take in the visual jokes in the background and it'd be worth viewing. There's a bit of a deluge of cartoons that are adult themed following the success of family guy / south park / Rick and Morty but it's such a special program that somehow treads the line of being real ie not happy clappy but not wallowing in despair for no reason. It's brilliant even if it can put me in a negative spiral (which is my fault not the show's obviously. In an odd way I kind of wish it finished on the penultimate episode
as it kind of made sense that the character died
but I'll see on the second time around.

For many people, nepotism will get you in the door but not keep you in the building. Not for all for sure, but for some. And it is that way in many businesses.

New series of Black Mirror is out

It's an easy narrative to suggest that the last two seasons have been under par since Netflix / the yanks got involved but perhaps it's true.

Joan is awful was an eye opener and funny as well, beyond the sea I described above and as stated I liked it a lot, playing with the idea of the medium within the medium. Loch Henry was a good level of humourous and grim.

But there's no real subversion / ripping the carpet from underneath you leaving to feel hollow which the show used to do so well.

Granted there'll always be off episodes in an anthology type series but what was the actual message of Mazey day? There's a universe where paparazzi are scumbags and apparently werewolves are real. That's the main one that I was at a loss with, as far as I can see there was no subtext, just some B movie horror crowbarred in to an interesting subject but no pay off or realization that made you feel you had to take a shower after viewing it.

Demon 79 was enjoyable if not in a bit of a Good Omens kind of "Demons can be a bit charming" kind of way but again, I didn't see the point other than saying racism / tories are bad, seems a bit like low hanging fruit.
