***Official Match Thread Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool Sat. 20th Dec. 5:30pm***

On the way back from the game. I've witnessed some tinkle poor performances this season but that wasn't one of them.
Felt we were more than matching them, even with 10 up until Romero's all too common lazy pass put us in the brick. Xavi's red was clumsy but not malicious, looked like he was trying to press and harry VDV and just misjudged his stride. Felt there 2nd could easily have been chalked off, was there even a review? Richie and Odobert really gave us impetus and the equaliser was there for us. Then Romero stepped up with an act of total stupidity to end the game. He should be stripped of the captaincy/dropped until he finds his brain.
We lost

I have no complaints about the team and effort today. Today we lost because of incompetent refs that got pretty much every vital decision wrong. The effort and application from the players was very good, and we were the better team for most of the game, even with a man down.

Romero 's dive was theatrical which probably made the ref think it wasn't a foul. Hey ho. Romero has to take a hard look at himself today. He let the team down. Xavi I can forgive because he's new to the PL and trying to make an impression. Romero's shenanigans were borderline unforgivable though. Especially as he is the fudging captain. I don't think he is a good enough CB. Think he would be better in midfield.
He’s not suited to this league. Sell him to Atlético and he’ll be the best defender in the league for them, another Diego Godín. But he’s not going to do it here. And making him captain? … another poor decision in a long list made by this club in the past few years.

No one bid for him in the summer
It was all talk

I actually thought Muani looks good. Once settled he could be potent. The way he outran the defender with the ball and (over)powered his shot towards the far corner was tantalising. Potential there.

Thought he looked awful from the South - so easily nudged off the ball and a serious lack of intelligent movement.

He might yet come good but he’s got a huge amount to improve on.

He was ok. Good attitude and a few moments of quality. And he does have pace.

The big problem…. when there is nothing for the opposition to defend from the left it becomes easier for them to shut out RKM and Kudus.

Agree. I thought we were much more positive and assertive than we've been for a long time. Until the dodgy red card (yellow all day) anyway

You complaining about the reds ?

Its not the manager its the players. I've said it so nany times. The teams like PSG, Bayern Real Madrid etc are not selling quality players to us for 40 mil. Our recruitment is so bad recently. Xavi didn't make it at Barcelonas academy didn't make it at PSG and finally Leipzig, then we pay 60 million euros for him. I have seen nothing that makes me think he will be a consistent top class player for us. The list is endless the last few years. Kudus must be the most average player, again how much money did we pay for him? We have had some of the best managers in europe and done nothing. Ironically the worst manager we had had in recent years (IMO) won us an european trophy. Until our player recruitment improves we have just got to come to terms that our present squad is bang average

If we’d played last Sunday with even a quarter of the energy and intent we had today, today’s result wouldn’t have mattered so much.

Appalling referee (and I’m not referring to the red cards) but if that fixture had been at Anfield the noise and pressure on the referee would have been off the scale. Rightly or wrongly, we need to get better at that.

Don’t think the crowd or the team could have been on the referee’s back more today tbh.

Personally, I thought he was a disgrace for two incidents. First half, Spence created some space and sprints towards their area (think it was when Bradley fell over). He has no one within 10 yards to help him. Muani is jogging up behind him. Unforgivable.

Second half we launched a long one and are desperate for a ball to stick. He didn’t even jump for it.

He can fudge off for all I care and I do think he’s a boy with talent. If you aren’t good enough, fair enough. If you can’t be bothered, that’s a million times worse.
