Morgan Schneiderlin

He's not worth 30M, not worth 20M in my opinion ... and Southampton's real form now is not helping his price any.

As a player he could easily be at a similar/lower level to Southampton in 3 years wondering what the **** happened to his big chance ..

Totally agree he is not worth the money he performed well because of the system Poch played. I understand why he would want a former favourite player back with him at his new club but we need to tell Poch that he has to find a cheaper alternative or coach one of our many midfielders into that type and quality of player.

Manchester United are set to make it a three-way battle for Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Southampton midfield player is wanted by both Arsenal and Tottenham

Arsene Wenger at the Gunners and Mauricio Pochettino, his counterpart at the White Hart Lane club, are both willing to pay £27million for the 25-year-old France international.

Wenger made his admiration for the player clear when he watched him play in the World Cup while Pochettino knows all about his qualities after working with him last season at Southampton.

Now United are ready to move in.

Manager Luis van Gaal has been using Michael Carrick to great effect in central midfield, but the Englishman will be 34 later this year and Schneiderlin would be the ideal long-term replacement as Van Gaal continues his re-building job at the Old Trafford giants.

Arsenal transfer news: Arsene Wenger ready to fight with Spurs over Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin
Arsène Wenger considers summer bid for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin

By Jeremy Wilson

" Arsenal are preparing to go head to head with Tottenham Hotspur this summer for Morgan Schneiderlin after identifying the France and Southampton midfielder as one of their transfer priorities for 2015.
There is an acceptance that it would be virtually impossible to prise Schneiderlin away from St Mary’s this month, particularly as Southampton are pushing for a European place, but the 25-year-old has admitted that his future is unsure beyond the season.
Southampton turned down a £10  million bid from Tottenham last summer and, although the player initially wanted to leave, club directors decided that they would refuse all offers. Spurs, though, never actually improved on a single £10 million bid which Schneiderlin had wrongly thought would trigger a release clause. Relations between Tottenham and Southampton had also become strained earlier in the summer by the departure of Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching staff.
Arsenal did buy Calum Chambers from Southampton for £16 million but made no enquiry for Schneiderlin, who is valued at closer to £20 million. Arsenal have since been lacking this season in central midfield, largely due to injury, and long-term replacements are especially needed in the holding midfield role. Mikel Arteta has sustained several injuries this season but has provisionally agreed a one-year extension to stay at Arsenal next season but Mathieu Flamini is out of contract this summer.
Schneiderlin should now be coming into the peak years of his career and, looking further into the future, Arsenal are also seeking to sign Legia Warsaw’s Krystian Bielik this month. They have had a £2 million bid turned down but talks remain ongoing between the clubs for a player who only turned 17 on Sunday but has already broken into the Legia Warsaw first team. Legia bought Bielik from Lech Poznan for £9,500 last year and he has a contract until 2017. At 6ft 2in, Bielik is a strong physical presence and is expected to develop as a specialist in the holding midfield position."

"Wenger is also interested in adding defensive cover this month.
Goalkeeper Wojceich Szczesny, though, will not be dropped against Stoke City on Sunday as a consequence of smoking after the 2-0 defeat against Southampton but is still playing for his longer-term future at Arsenal. Wenger was furious with Szczesny for lighting up a cigarette in the showers at St Mary’s but, beyond a likely £20,000 fine, the incident will not impact on his team selection for Sunday.
Szczesny’s place was in some doubt anyway following his errors in the Southampton defeat and the availability now of both David Ospina and Emiliano Martínez. The expectation, though, is that Szczesny will keep his place and status as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Although there have been other mistakes this season – Szczesny was sent off against Galatasaray in the Champions League – Wenger has been satisfied with most of his performances, particularly in the 2-1 win against West Ham United last month.
Wenger has also always shown considerable faith in Szczesny since he arrived as a 16-year-old, first by promoting him when he could have signed Hugo Lloris in 2012 and then again last summer when he recruited Ospina as his understudy....."

Could've signed Lloris. Had Kane on the books. Was scoping out Eriksen. Interested in pairing Vermaelen with Vertonghen.

Told Zlatan to do one.

Genius.

i hope the auction means someone signs schneiderlin for 50mil and we patch up with southampton by selling them some of our deadwood.

Also - who really knows what Levy ACTUALLY bid - this paper talk is all nonsense - how could anybody judge anybody or anything based on the words printed on fish wrap?

The article states we bid £10m. Doesn't matter if we ACTUALLY made it or not, a £10m bid is an insult for a player of MS quality.

Or do you think that's all he's worth?

Nayim, the club were led to believe that £10million would trigger a release clause. The contract in the end didn't stipulate that and we ended up looking like numpties.

I see no problem here. He is worth more than that but why would any buyer pay way more than they think they can get away with??

We could have made a second bid, you know. Such things exist. Making one derisory ten million pound throwaway bid isn't a great display of backing the new manager's vision for the club. Repugnant, actually, given the situation said manager inherited upon signing.

Ah, well. Re-hash of old points coming up. Just posted that up there to a) dispel some assumptions that were being made about the whole Schneiderlin saga over the past half-season or so, and b) chuckle at Wenger turning down Lloris to keep faith in Szczceny. :D

Today proved, once again, how much we need a player like Schneiderlin... as it is, he's not going to be joining us as he seems to want to stay at Southampton, at least for the rest of the season, and then is likely to end up joining a club further up the money ladder.
