Morgan Schneiderlin

There are some people here really gonna hate on that.

A lot of that is what I consider the basics of the game.

Closing angles for the opposition - make them play where YOU want them to play it.

And creating tactical options to have numerous players available.

Football matches are won and lost in the mind IMHO.

I agree, a lot of those points are the absolute basics of the game, things that really ought to be second nature. No doubt that was just a few easy to describe examples though and there is much more in depth coaching going on.

I am told Schneiderlin & Rodriguez are close to linking up with former #SaintsFC boss Pochettino at #THFC. It never rains but it pours.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez are understood to be close to linking-up with former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham as Southampton's summer sale continues.

After achieving their best ever Barclays Premier League finish last season, the odds on Saints getting relegated this time around are shortening by the day.

Arsenal completed the signing of highly-rated right-back Calum Chambers on Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after Dejan Lovren joined Liverpool in a £20million deal.

The Croatia international followed Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana in moving to Anfield, while teenage left-back Luke Shaw recently departed for Manchester United.

Those transfers came in the wake of manager Pochettino and his staff leaving for Spurs, where two of his former Saints charges could be plying their trade next term.

Press Association Sport understands Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, with the pair edging closer to deals taking them to White Hart Lane.

Reports suggest Saints are asking £27million for midfielder Schneiderlin, who joined the club from Strasbourg in 2008 and played a key role in their rise from League One to the top-flight.

The 24-year-old represented France at this summer's World Cup and has attracted interest from Arsenal, although he is understood to favour a move to Spurs so he can work with Pochettino again.

The former Argentina international is also in for Rodriguez, despite the England forward currently being sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 24-year-old has been at St Mary's since joining from hometown club Burnley two years ago and made his Three Lions debut in November's friendly against Chile.

Their exits would be another hammer blow to recently-appointed manager Ronald Koeman, who is also expected to sell disruptive club-record signing Dani Osvaldo in the coming weeks.

Work is afoot to bring in replacements but so far only two have arrived, with Dusan Tadic joining from FC Twente before Graziano Pelle arrived from Koeman's former club Feyenoord.

Don't know much about J.Rodriguez - good signing? What we need?

Would be a gamble.

poch definitely got the best out of him though, coming back from acl injury. I can only imagine that by signing Schneiderlin and Rodriguez we would be giving them someone in return. Can't see us spending 40m+ on two players when we need a centre half.

He was pretty ace last season and can play up front AND on either the left or right side of an attacking 3....i would be happy for sure.

We might be giving them Townsend or Lennon in return, or Dawson, Naughton, hell we have loads of turds we could palm off on them

yeh maybe Naughton is part of this deal (if true)?

He only really came to prominence under Poch, but looked like a good player in his system. Is he better technically than Chadli probably not, but he does bring three things; he's more of a goal threat, English, and has Spanish blood so he was born to play Tiki-taka.

I'd be happy with the addition of Schneiderlin and Rodriguez, just need a central defender and arguably a reliable striker.

Could it possibly be true? Much as they rub me the wrong way, if correct, would feel sorry for the Saints fans. Talk about hara kiri. Has any team in the Premiership exsanguinated itself in the manner, ever?

Nice word.

Rodriguez is a risk coming back from a CL injury but Schneiderlin would be perfect for us.

cheers KD/Mumorn.

Schneiderlin Capoue
Lamela Eriksen Rodriguez

as a possible first choice midfield then?

how would Dembele fit in to MP's set up at Soton - would his defensive capabilities be useful in the central role of the 3 (pressing/defending from the front etc)

Bentaleb and Carroll sound like players which he could work with - deep midfielders who move the ball well... theoretically could Paulinho play the central role in the 3? a second choice midfield of :

Bentaleb Sandro
Lennon Paulinho Chadli
sound about right?

edit : forgot about Holtby ...

Bentaleb Sandro
Lennon Holtby Chadli
