Morgan Schneiderlin

Get this guy in. he would transform our side. does what a defensive mid-fielder is meant to do, shields the back four. Also scores! Great attitude, strong, a leader, he would be great. Cannot understand why we have never made a bid before.

He's really not THAT good. Bentaleb will be the better playing within 12 months.

I'm not sure that I see Bentaleb ending up as specialist defensive midfielder. I think he'll end up playing slightly further forward in the box to box position.

Isn't that kind of what Schneiderlin has done this season with Wanyama as the "specialist defensive midfielder".

I don't think a specialist defensive midfielder is a great description for Bentaleb now or in the future. More a deep midfielder who does a lot of good things on the ball and who does well defensively (and will improve).

Jedinak is strong on the ball and imposing in the tackle. He IS a defensive mid fielder, something that none of our current players are. Leader of club and country. Not only would I sign him, I would also give him the arm band.

Stunned looking at their forum that a lot of them would be happy for him to go

I get the impression that's because they can still get a fee for a 30 year old, otherwise it seems they'd be happy for him to stay. It's also because when he was out of the team during Pardew's dead cat bounce they think they don't need him.

Yeah it's bonkers

I'd take him tomorrow over the likes of Crapoue

I totally agree that a more defensive M/F player has to be our biggest priority but I am not sure Jedinak is the one we need. he is going to be 31 soon and for a player who biggest club has been Palace then I think we could do better.

James McCarthy. Go for him, make it a double deal with the newly unhappy Mirallas (with Lennon going the other way, to save on transfer fees) and let's get it over with. He's good enough for us, as evidenced by his above-average contribution in an underperforming side this season (see attached), and won't cost more than ickle Levy likes to pay.

Of course, we could miss out on him too, in which case we could try for Karl Henry on a free if QPR deign to release him. Although the wages might be too high for our glorious chairman there too. Veljkovic, then? :p

My gut feeling is that Arsenal will not sign schneiderlin, certainly not for the money that Soton are asking for. They will set their sights higher and with coquelin and Ramsay playing so well they don't need him IMO. For us though he is a critical signing. The high price is not a gamble because the guy is proven in the PL poch has done all the scouting he needs on this guy. with his age we could get a decent sell on fee too. I am a big fan of Levy but IMO he needs to get this one done somehow.

I hope you are right. I get the feeling that Morgan is hoping for a CL team to swoop in and we're the consolation prize. I like Mason and Bentaleb (especially), and Dembele is still doing well as a starter or first sub off the bench, but Schneiderlin has a touch of the Carrick's about him and playing him would allow the other CM a more expansive role in an attacking sense. Fingers crossed.

That little stat bubble makes Bentaleb's progress look even more impressive. McCarthy certainly looks the perfect partner back there for both Mason and Bentaleb.

I've made my views clear on McCarthy. Who saw our game vs Everton at the end of the season. He was invisible and seems to be in their big games. We can't have a player hide in the big games anymore

I think there's a shiny new toys thing going on with Schneiderlin and McCarthy. People forget Mason and Bentaleb outplayed them both this season. I'd rather go on head-to-head battles like that, than abstract stats

That's what I see too. A player who lacks the drive to impose himself on a match when it counts. I would bet my house that Poch/Mitchell have ruled out a transfer based solely on their 'winning mentality' criteria. He's not the right stuff.

Dembele and Mason tinkled all over him in our last match.

it was a nothing game. the whole everton team was invisible.
Then maybe none of them have the right mentality.
Listen I know Everton didn't have a lot to play for but I'm not just focussing on that one match. McCarthy has had this lack of drive criticism from the Irish camp too. He's not a player I see as being better than any we have in that position (except maybe Paulinho).
