Mauricio Pochettino

Spoke well and unlike other former managers who have been happy to use transfers as an excuse to blame the club for their failings he was quick to highlight that he understood the situation around the club re the stadium build & moves and came in knowing what the craic was.

I wonder if he was referring to Mourinho when talking about people outside saying we should be achieving this or that with the players (or the media) I didn't like Neville saying that no one thought he was the problem as, iirc, there was a big media angle that he was underachieving

I absolutely think Mourinho was part of it. He was touting himself at Levy via intermediaries,
and he told Levy he could 'win' with THAT squad in 2019. Levy was a fool to believe but as we know, he'd been in love with Mou for many years.

I just loved seeing someone say how much they love this club, even after all that. And for all my sins, I freely admit that if he came back I'd love it. I don't know if it is a good idea, but to 'feel' like that again would be amazing. I miss that so, so much...

I still need to watch the whole thing but is he suggesting some issue with the owners influencing things more than they should? Eg his comments about people outside the club convincing people inside the club?

Sacking him was the beginning of the completely dumb cycle of moves we’ve made since. Proof positive that they didn’t know why we were successful with him, if they could pin the blame his way with slide of results in 2019, rather than what was obviously broader context.

‘Time will tell if it’s the right decision’ Levy said.

No. I think what he saying is the expectations from ownership of the players he has was to make challenge for top 4. Then the media starts asking why are they not winning the league after they have been successful and all of a sudden the expectation is to win the league. But it’s the same players.

I’ve always had a theory that Levy wanted Mourinho at the helm for the super league announcement. That was touted when he was in charge and he was still amongst the biggest names in the game at that point.

I’m with you Stef, every time we’re without a manager I want Poch back before any other choices. That’s never going away until it happens

If he was to come back it was encouraging how he was talking about the game, and what is required from managers and players. His approach has been changing, and he appears to be detached from the all about systems camp.
