leedspurs is going to explode hahaha

The old, 'can we afford not to do something' argument!!?

We can't afford to do something, that's for sure.

Man man global warming is gonad*s.

Please explain the medieval warm period followed by the mini ice age and then warming, what happened there?

Answers on a post card please.

OK, so which one is it?

About that petition, a lot of the signatories were from backgrounds other than climate science. The validity of it has also not been independently verified. I don't know much more about it than that, but it seems that it could be a dated list and if you had to ask each of those signatories to re-sign, many of them wouldn't (even if the deceased could sign posthumously). I wouldn't hinge an argument or debate on that petition.

Desperate.

You want something more up to date?

Man made global warming is a lie, and a monstrous one at that.

It's not so much a lie, but a misdiagnosis.

Now so many people are in on the 'misdiagnosis' they are desperate to save face.

I mean, Al Gore would have to give back all those prizes!

He's such a noted environmental campaigner as well, in his private jet!

Completely disagree about DDT, maybe it would save a slight number (when mortality rates of DDT Vs Malaria were measured DDT was lower), but would they not die of Polio instead? I think you may have been misguided by shallow reading of a subject there Yossarian.

Not advocating the use of DDT as such, but using it to highlight the unintended consequences that can arise when the eco mob are allowed to drive the agenda.

The founder of Greenpeace quit the organisation when it was hijacked by the eco fascists:

Here's some more fuel for the fire (an opinion piece from the guardian)

Whether they are promoting the idea that Barack Obama was not born in the US, that man-made climate change is an eco-fascist-communist-anarchist conspiracy, or that the deficit results from the greed of the poor, they now appeal to the basest, stupidest impulses, and find that it does them no harm in the polls.

Simply put, watch an hour of Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh (uber-idiot, inflammatory conservative radio host). Facts are rarely in contention, at least, facts that are valid in the REAL world. Instead, the viewers and listeners of these programs are fed garbage data (lies) that all conveniently cater to conservative ideologies, which keep dragging the center rightwards with every fantastical claim. This is not limited to the media; politicians (from both political parties) are culpable as well. Conservatives do not fact-check because the truth would contradict their insular views and (dis)beliefs, which their voters willingly cling to. Wishful thinking on their part, but I bet many conservatives could just wish away gays, people of varying ethnicity, and pregnant teenagers.

These are the perfect conditions for a billionaires' feeding frenzy. Any party elected by misinformed, suggestible voters becomes a vehicle for undisclosed interests. A tax break for the 1% is dressed up as freedom for the 99%. The regulation that prevents big banks and corporations exploiting us becomes an assault on the working man and woman. Those of us who discuss man-made climate change are cast as elitists by people who happily embrace the claims of Lord Monckton, Lord Lawson or thinktanks funded by ExxonMobil or the Poch brothers: now the authentic voices of the working class.

What a load of gonad*s. In the UK at least the vast majority of conservatives are atheists. They believe in women's rights, and gay rights, and free education, healthcare and freedom of speech. Basically uk conservatives would be moderate democrats in the US.

Is that really true about the majority of conservatives being atheists in the UK? While on the subject, what would you say the percentage of atheists is of the whole UK population? The conservative right here is overwhelmingly Christian/evangelical. They think wearing a condom is a form of abortion, so better to knock up all those stupid teenage sluts to propagate another generation of careless, lazy bricks. They are losing their grasp on reason, choosing to believe all the facts and ridiculous opinions they've 'formulated' within their own bubble.

Bill Maher (a fairly liberal host of the show Real Time on HBO) mentioned the Canadian study (it does suit his agenda, to be fair) last Friday, but it's something that merely gave some empirical evidence to what he has been preaching all along: the right has lost touch with reality, possibly in relation to its phobia of racial and sexual issues, among other things. However, the key point is that new flimflam issues have cropped up and replaced actual issues that we face in our country. Our education system is awful, unless you have the bags of money it requires these days to properly educate a child. You can call it brainwashing or indoctrination, but somehow, the right is staking its position further and further from the center... in the name of GHod and Jesus... and tim tebow (piece of brick).

Yes.......only 12% of the British attend any church/mosque/synogogue.

Religion cuts across all voters.

The people like the religeous right in the US don't relly exist in the UK......we are a truly secular country.

Indeed if a politician openly stated they were very religious we would think them strange......we don't trust GHod botherers!!!

Blair only 'came out' as a Catholic after he quit the premiership.

Sounds like the Irish to me. Still living in fear in the dark ages.

Most conservatives in the UK are as Leeds described.

Clumsily put, but abortion is illegal in Ireland on religious grounds........that is backwards to the progressive thinker.

:jawonthefloor:

Only 12%? We are about the opposite: ~85% believe in some diety or GHod, the majority of which are Christian in some form or another. 20% of Americans are liberal, that's how small that group is. The rest is evenly split between conservatives and 'moderates', a term that used to mean something but doesn't anymore.

This really puts things in perspective for me and explains another reason as to why we are so ass-backwards. And whenever I slag off on conservatives, it's of the American variety.

Most Conservatives in the UK, (who vote for the Conservative Party) are fiscally conservative. Believe in small government, less red tape in business, but we all believe in social protection as well. I'd probably be called a socialist in the states! :)

I believe in the legalisation of drugs, all drugs.

That would make me a raving San Francisco liberal!!

I also believe in the death penalty, which makes me a hard line right winger over here.

Pigeon holes are gonad*s.
