Interim manager thread 2.0

I've always been an advocate for Harry - as long as there is a team of coaches working with him with very current experience of the existing squad and of the PL. Mason is one of those; Ledley, Defoe, Davies? Heitinga?

The ludicrousy of Harry though is that it's now Cheltenham week - what would the mechanics of this appointment actually be right now? The festival runs through to a crescendo on Friday? If so, what happens? Does Vinai or whoever it is who makes the call demand that he meet with them in secret. Knowing Harry - there's no way any communications, no matter how speculative, would stay quiet at Cheltenham - Alan Brazil would get a whisper and broadcast it!

Therefore, do they wait for Friday afternoon - do what happened when he took over in 2008 and install him overnight before the game at Anfield on Sunday afternoon?

Maybe Mason is announced first with rest of coaching team and then Harry is later dropped in as an overseer/consultant.

A complete circus whatever happens now!

Add into the mix Harry featuring in the I’m a Celebrity All Stars, already filmed but due to be on TV in April - no distraction there!

I cannot believe the number of people that are calling for Ryan Mason to come in. Did anyone see how he got on at West Brom?!
Yes its plainly silly. The guy hasnt done anything of note. Get Robbie Keane on a 3 year deal, as it seems Poch wont manage in the Championship.

As much as I love the idea of Harry for the reasons already mentioned it seems more and more absurd.

I do think, pound for pound, Ange would be the most likely to instantly get the players onside and with full focus on league games I'd be most confident of us surviving. Now whether the board would be brave enough to approach him and whether he'd take it on an interim basis are separate questions that I suspect I know the answer to...but as this season seems to be following the dystopian script of an Arsenal fan pitching for a new season of Dream Team then maybe not so far fetched?

I hear you on the gallows humour approach with the players. They should all be made to watch Mike Bassett: England Manager today. Get them all laughing. Invite massive Spurs fan Michael McIntyre to the club to get their spirits up. In fact, get him in 2 or 3 times a week.

I'm starting to believe the Redknapp, Mason, Dawson, Keane, Defoe, Davies approach might be better than this Tudor one.
We're enough of a comedy show already without adding McIntyre

We have an interim manager sufficiently often that I think we should have an ongoing group of 4-5 “Spurs old boys” who are wheeled in whenever we need.

That group could rotate as managers retire and younger ones need experience.

They’d care about the club and sure they would enjoy it which would rub off on the players. Also being a group would take the pressure off them as it’s not just one guys responsibility.

Could include Redknapp, Hoddle, Mason, Ledley, Defoe, Crouch even Ossie could make an appearance. P

Kind of wish we did that after Frank tbh

In fact, now I’ve thought about it more we should def do this.

No Pleat?

If anyone thinks Redknapp wouldn't throw these players under the bus should they put in another couple of performances akin to what they have been doing recently to save his own reputation, they've obviously got short memories. Darren Bent says hello...

If it's vibes we need, and it most assuredly looks like we do, get Mason and Defoe in - people a lot closer in age to these players and likely a lot better emotional intelligence. Not a PFM dinosaur.

The Redknapp call is so so bad. No longer do you have a Defoe or Keane or the like who get the reference, people think Romero and MVDV will react to the old Harry with his arm round them act, its ridiculous

And it is for this reason I think it’s EXACTLY the kind of move our idiotic Board would enact, based on listening to a few Talkbrick phone ins and a bit of social media listening scrapes.

That would be 79 year old Redknapp who has not managed a club in over a decade?
No doubt Redknapp returning would be a massive gamble given his age and time out of the game. In some ways symptomatic that he's even being discussed. But at the same time can understand it, desperate times.

While I definitely am quite a long way off trusting the current people in charge of this football club making the right call it's also a decision I don't envy them having to make right now. A lot of uncertainty, nothing like a clear right answer, big stakes.

I'm at a loss to what we do. The players are a bunch of chumps, so the tough love approach from Tudor which i saw sense in, could have worked, but it has been a disaster. Players are pampered and need their egos massaged to get a tune out of, but if we need to do that in the short term to stay up, so be it.

Club is such a mess.

I genuinely think we need someone/ a team in who can short-term repair the injury between the eyebrow and hairline which has afflicted the whole club.
I bagged on myself for wanting Vibes FC + good coaches. Right now, Redknapp/Mason/Defoe could be the last roll of any dice we have. Redknapp would tell them all they're good players and to prove it, Mason can coach and has worked with many of these players/has a linkage, and Defoe is with the kids right now anyway.
Can it be worse?
I do sadly have a feeling if we stick with Tudor, the boat is heading one way.
For sure vibes are important. That mostly comes from getting results and performances though. There's no real short term repair of the stuff between the hairline and eyebrows. Confidence and belief has been shattered. Maybe a real vibesy person coming in could give the players a momentary lift, but only if a result or two follows fairly quickly. No vibes guy that can keep that up in this situation as long as results are failing imo.

Not saying it can't make a difference just to be clear, just that the difference that can make is very much limited and if results don't go our way the difference will be short lived.

We may need a change and I don't know who we should change to in that case. More than anything we need luck to somehow get a result from somewhere. Something to build on.

And we need to play every player that can deal reasonably well with this situation. Had VdV been sent off (as he should have been) last night it would have gone much worse.

If Tudor and the players think they can build on the positives that were there yesterday I think I'd give them a chance to do that for another game or two. If we make another change that's surely the last role of the die (apart from getting injured players back). Make the change now and a couple of games are lost from that point, where can we turn?
