Interesting but useless facts

The Ostrich doesn't actually ever bury its head in the sand.

A "jiffy" is an actual unit of time. It corresponds to 1/100 of a second.

The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old law which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb.

The effects of a cold, i.e. runny nose, sore throat, constricted nasal passages, are not caused by the cold itself but by the body's immunity system trying to get rid of the cold. The virus itself is fairly harmless and left alone would likely go unnoticed but for some reason the immune system goes mental whenever it detects it.
