Heurelho Gomes

I loved him as a character but he just unsettled our back four so much he had to go, he pulled off some remarkable saves.

Heurelho da Silva Gomes

Photos on his official Facebook site show him on his way to Brazil. Cud has gone so it is weird if he is being allowed to go on holiday.
Who is our third choice while he is away?

we pay him 3m a season and i paid 8m for him, has to be up there as one of our worst transfers, thought he was awful when we played psv in the european match and was suprised when we went for him

I read awhile ago that a brazilan side wanted him but only on a free and we still wanted a transfer fee. With him and bentley i think it is time to just get off the wage bill.

Not sure who our number 3 is now maybe one of the foreign youngsters we have?

out of interest anyone know what david button is up to these days

Are we really paying him over £50k p/w?

(And also, why if you thought he was awful when we played PSV did you pay £8m for him)

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

So does this mean the swap deal with Internacional with Leandro going the other way is true??? 8-[

haha yeah i just seen that, should say it was not me that paid the money, if i had that sort of money i would be living some place hot with a pornstar

I read some place that we are paying 50k a week i think it was when he nearly went on loan to russia.

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

He was in Cuffley barbers apparently just before Xmas spouting off about a move to Brazil. Not sure why he'd be in a barbers though but he was lol.

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

Sell him, buy jak butland, loan him back to brum for the rest of the season.

That would be awesome

There's no point at all having a young #2.

Lloris + Friedel + Archer would be fine for the next 18 months.

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

A sad story.
Everyone, to a person, appears to have forgotten the fantastic form he produced to almost single-handedly make sure we got into the CL, and some of his displays in the CL (AC away) were excellent...

Not exactly a sad story. Yes some of his displays in the CL were excellent. However others were completely abysmal.

Yes he did well in a season in the PL when we got CL. However then the next season he made some appalling errors that may have cost us that seasons CL place.

Nope. I still remember.

I still had hopes that Redknapp would use Friedel to help Gomes regain form and consistency after we signed Friedel until he chose to play Cudicini instead of Gomes in the EL and it was clear that Gomes was done.

A slight hope rekindled when we signed AVB, but I never thought Gomes would be a long term solution under AVB since he's just not good enough with the ball at his feet and that means it wouldn't work for him under AVB.

He was fantastic in the season we got into the CL. His saves against Arsenal alone... Wowsa.

Not true. We just remember his inconsistency and stupidity as well, and that coupled with not playing for 2yrs either through injury or 'injury', means really it was a poor signing. He was brilliant or useless and didn't have the mentality to cope, remember the fake injuries during games?

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

i'm rooting for gomes too... but wonder why no one has come in for him yet. i recall he was always in pain, not sure if the affliction is still with him.

Re: Heurelho da Silva Gomes

Has there been any more news on Gomes and why he went to Brazil?

My understanding was that Parks advised that Gomes didn't have the mentality to come off the bench and that Cudicini was the better option as second choice keeper.

Could very well be, but that still means that at that point Gomes was pretty much finished at Spurs. Not being first choice, not being second choice and getting no games even in a tournament we didn't care about.

We spend nearly 20m in fees and wages on the guy over the last 4 and half years.
Thats the real sad thing for the club.

True but no one would buy him because he wouldn't take a drop in wages.

Some of the saves he made in the season we got CL were outstanding. I don't think we would have gotten into the CL with a lesser keeper.

Seems likely, yes.
