Fixture & Ticket News 2023/24

We play 38 games same as everyone else. Can moan about a few hard games in a row in April, but it could work out that they have all gone far in Europe, have a few injuries and tired players while we are relatively fresh.
By the same token we could have an injury crisis during those games. Can't predict if a schedule will work out well or not for us or anyone else.

Yeh I don't see the bias in the fixtures personally.

The home v away seem spread evenly and you expect to have tougher periods than other, that can't be spread out unless you really are fudging the randomness.

This reply always gets me.
Arsenal's easy start ( shoe-ins) , like last year , will give them the confidence and belief to push on and hold them in good stead for the rest of the season, while we get a tough start and possibly a loss or two and have a new manager under pressure before he's even got his foot in the door.

Football rarely works like that though, unless you are city.

Arsenal lost the title slipping at their end of season shoe ins

We can only do us, games come as they come.

Plenty of teams get “easy” starts and drop points. Promoted teams often spring a surprise for the first few games and beat top sides, top sides are bedding in new players and don’t hit the ground running etc. There’s nothing guaranteed in football

I agree it shouldn't matter playing home or away but most teams have better home records than away and last season 48% of wins were at home.

But they still got 2nd place and CL football because of the good start and form in the first half of the season.

We had an easy start last season (Southampton H, Chelsea A, Wolves H, Forest A, W Ham A, Fulham H, Leicester H, 5W 2 D) and a similar start to Arsenal. What did that do for our confidence?
How come we didn't go on and qualify for CL if all you need is a good start?

Because we were crap but we were better placed in the first half of the season than where we finished.
Obviously Arsenal ere better than us but they had a young team , where confidence is fragile and I think that certainly helped them ,whereas the year before they got off to a bad start with difficult fixtures and that cost them ultimately.

Because we were crap
Indeed and Arsenal were very good unfortunately. That is the reason they got 2nd, along with other big teams not being very good. Nothing to do with an easy start giving them confidence. There are no easy games anymore in this league anyway....

Absolute myth, 8 teams lost at least 50% of their games, 10 teams failed to win 30% of their games, 11 teams conceded more than 50 goals in a 38 games season.

The PL being competitive is a joke, City will win 6 out of last 7 next season

How do you know their good start didnt give them confidence ?
The pundits / ex - pros talk about it all the time , how confidence , belief and the mental side of the game is so important.

Not a myth at all, there are easier games for sure - that doesn't mean they are easy. Leicester beat us 4-1, Bournemouth beat us at home etc Back in the day you would be spanking the bottom teams, it doesn't happen as often now.More often than not should you beat the bottom teams? Yes. Does that equate to being an easy game? No.....

It’s fudging massive
brick teams have stayed up because of a good start
It gives you momentum and a commitment that the hard work in the summer is working
Thee are always sackings around the two international breaks after the summer that aren’t predicted in the summer. That’s because a side has had a poor start (Poch being a classic)

the factor in the timing of games either side of Europe and that has a huge impact too

We had players at the World Cup
We played CL
The only side who played CL who looked good last season was city and that was post World Cup
Last season was ridiculously compressed don’t forget

The teams ability wasnt the argument though it was that some clubs get fudged easy fixtures tha others. The fact we also got easier fixtures proves its not really as cut and dry as being made out.

So we play Brentford first game of the season, that is not good. It makes sense for them to drag out the Raya signing until after that match if we do not offer them the money thay want.

After that match they might be more amenable to lower their asking price. They could do that just to make things difficult for us and I would not blame them.
