First game at White Hart Lane - 1986

I was messing around on youtube mentally preparing for the weekend and thought "why not see if any highlights of my first trip to White Hart Lane exist?"

And bugger me, look what I found.

Line up: Clemence, Stevens, Thomas, Gough, Mabbutt, Roberts, Waddle Hoddle, Falco, Allen, Galvin

I was 12 years old, a little Australian boy (albeit one brought up on a diet of Dutch and English football) with his Dad and older brother sitting in the West Stand (I think?) on the first tier. I remember being amazed at how we all sang in unison (and so loud!!) with each other, and the songs were immediately answered by the away section.

I remember Hoddle hitting a pass from our side of the pitch to the other without looking, and how tinkled off Dad was the entire train trip home.

Feck me I wish I could go back in time and watch that match again. Funny how, 25+ years later, we can still dominate possession, play great passing football, miss chances galore and manage to throw away points by conceding goals through mistakes late on.

Forgive the indulgence.

COYS.

Tottenham-Arsenal in 1995 with Teddy and Armstrong getting the goals.
I was seventeen and a fantastic first time experience! Lost my camera unfortunately...

23/10/91 home to Porto in the Cup Winners Cup

We won 3-1, was hooked from then on!

My first game was Danny Thomas' Testimonial, 28th March 1988, 7 years old and loved it, although we did lose (2-3, IIRC), so should have realised it was how things were going to be for a while!

I (and 2 mates) was at this game too! Without watching the video is one of the goals a great passing movement that we actually managed (this time) to finish off. Well lineker does. An extinct uefa competition i believe, but a glory glory night at the lane.

Nothing could get any worse than that, as your first game

Worthington cup final vs leicester. Never been to a more boring game, as an 8 year old going to see his idols for the first time, i should have been excited, but fudge me...great result mind ;)

Anyone got any youtube of Wolves home 1957? I can't remember anything but the journey and standing outside the pub with my dad

Here's mine. Vs. Forest. How could you not fall in love with Hoddle etc, after that strike?

" A stunning goal from Glenn Hoddle won this match for Spurs against a strong Forest side.
On a sunny autumn afternoon at White Hart Lane, Milija Aleksic kicked the ball upfield, where Gerry Armstrong flicked it on. Chris Jones knocked the ball back into the path of Hoddle, who produced a stunning volley that flew past a helpless Peter Shilton to give Tottenham an early lead they held to the end of the match".
Featuring on The Big Match TV programme, the goal was hailed as the best that season, with the ball not touchng the ground until it nestled in the back of the net at the Park Lane end.

My first game was the game that Danny Thomas busted his leg up in, leading to the testimonial which was your first game.

I hate saying or hearing things like this but football seemed so much better back then as a whole, the feelings that video evokes is a perfect example of why i loved football.

21-Apr-90 Division 1 White Hart Lane vs Manchester United. We won 2-1 Gascoigne & Lineker scored, I think Bruce scored a pen for Mancs after a Bergesson handball.

Went with my elder brother, I must have been 11 we stood in the away end. The mancs were ok to us, but then I was a little 'un. And so the love affair really began. Remember the tickets coming through the post and it seemed ages until the game.

Best game I've ever seen, as I've mentioned on here before, FA cup vs Oxford stood on the East stand got in really early and got to the front - could smell the grass and the ralgex on the players... Gazza absolutely owned the game. Awesome display of individual football. Remember Fenwick about to hoof one into the box from the halfway line, right back position and Gazza nicked the ball off him waltzeed through the Oxford team and slotted home from a stupid angle.

Found an extended highlights of that game...

brick, White Hart Lane has really evolved over the years. Does anyone know if there exist any books or videos or websites with brickloads of pictures of White Hart Lane over the years? Would be nice to see how it has evolved.

My first game was vs Villa in '99 (a week before the Worthington Cup final), 13 years old, we won 1-0 thanks to a late Tim Sherwood scrappy goal. Couldn't find it on YouTube. :(
