Europa League - Round of 32: Fiorentina (ITA)

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

If United are prepared to lay down like dogs in front of their own fans - and they clearly are - we're gonna need a very special performance against Villa.

OHHH mygawwwwd. One off the bar by Soonderland.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

sunderland well unlucky there. borini is going to be a real asset for liverpool next year.

hopefully united dont blag a result out of this.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

This result will keep ManU's marketing dept. happy as they can move forward with plans for their lucrative US tour and keep new sponsor, Chevrolet, very happy.

See the USA

Your Chevy dealer's waiting for your call

:) I wonder who will get the most critism. Us for our abject performance pushing us towards missing E/L or Man Utd deleberate throwing of a match?

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

I'm sure whoever takes over in the summer will be glad to have this competition next season to try out a few things in.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

New post-match theme for United fans to sing. Not exactly Budapest By Blimp, more Boston By Bulgemobile.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Seen a few posters recently trying to say we should get in as that will be our best best of getting into the CL? By winning it? We've come far far closer to CL qualification from the league (and have qualified) than we have once from the EL.

Surely better to maximise our chances of CL qualification - if that's the overall target, which it seems to be - by getting in the Europa and having a chance, however slim, through that too? Unless we buy the idea that playing Thursday nights, ITV4, is what's held us back this year?

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

shots on target : 2 - 1
shots off target : 12 - 6
possession (%) : 64 - 36

Oh well, get in Sunderland!!!

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Norwich are fooked. Chavs will (all but) relegate them tomorrow.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

The new guy will definitely be glad of EL football. Its a great competition.

The early stages aren't inspiring, granted, but teams like us can waltz through them in second gear. There are always some genuine big hitters in the later rounds, and I'd hope we include ourselves in that.

The only way to grow as a club in terms of reputation and status is by being in Europe. We want to play the likes of Benfica, Inter, Lyon at White Hart Lane. To be a sensible name on the continent you have to have a presence beyond your own shores. No Europe, no presence.

We need to improve in Europe, we need to get to the semi's, the final. We want to win the thing.

If we can't compete in the Europa League and reach the latter stages, whilst simultaneously holding our own domestically, then we patently aren't ready or equipped for champions league football (cl is obviously a pipe dream anyway with this shower).

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Hull will go straight into the Group stage 18 September 2014
Everton will go in to the play off round 21 August 2014 and 28 August 2014
We will start in the Third qualifying round 31 July 2014 and 7 August 2014

We'd have to play 19 games to win the thing!

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Assuming Arsenal finish 4th - Hull will only start in the group stage if they win the cup, otherwise they start in the 3rd qualifying round and 5th place gets the group stage spot.

Re: The Race for Europe/6th Place

Champions League: Emirates Marketing Project, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal

Europa League: Everton, Hull

Last spot is between us and Man Utd. We need 1 point against Villa (or manure to drop some in their two remaining games, Hull (H) and Soton (A)) to make it ours.
