Eric Dier

Dier is clearly highly regarded by Mourinho. Captain-in-the-making perhaps.:

Mourinho also heralded Dier's personality and potential, and claimed he was the wrong person to be made into an example.
"He’s a top level boy," Mourinho said. "He’s one of these guys that looks older than he is, the way he thinks, you can see the example that he is at the social level, you can see his profile even socially without being married with kids, he looks really a family stable guy, very easy to communicate with and it’s not because he speaks perfect Portuguese.

"It’s not because of that that our communication is so, so easy. He’s really a young guy with a lot of potential, part of his football qualities, a young guy with a lot of potential. To choose somebody to be the face of this decision, I think is the wrong guy.

"Of course he is [a leader], he is one of the captains. To wear or not to wear the armband in a certain match is not the most important thing. A team needs more than one leader.
"It happens many, many, many, many times that the real leaders in some dressing rooms are not even the captains. I have to say that is a great situation to have the captain of England and the world champion captain in the same dressing room.

"So that’s a good starting base. When I keep opening the door for a certain kind of leadership that I want, with time, he’ll feel with more confidence and with more freedom, he can exert that leadership."

I think 4 games is about right because really you can't have players going into the crowd like that, on another day it could have caused a big scene and I guess the FA have to clamp down on that.

I did like the verdict saying the guy didn't feel scared at all, on the video he couldn't get out of there quick enough.

The FA had no choice but to ban Dier. Not sure what else people were expecting really. Can’t be going into the stands as others have said if a fan went onto the pitch then they would be rightfully banned.
One would be a criminal activity though
And the other isn’t. A ban based on an assumption too is kinda odd but it is what it is now

I think both we and the fan were lucky Dier didn’t get to him! Was any action taken by the club against the fan or would this be see as condoning Dier’s behaviour?

Rather than the ban, I think the issue is the length when compared to what other previous offences have bought a 4 games ban.

If you were a Captain, leader, legend for example, what sort of ban should you get for being a racialist?

That was 8 years ago though. I’d like to think the ban would be more severe if someone did that today.

The FA can’t be seen to condone players going into the stands. Would set a dangerous precedent if they didn’t ban Dier. We can debate the length of the ban but I don’t think they had any other choice when it came to banning him or not banning him.

Was being racist a lesser offence 8 years ago then?

Of course not, but given what has happened in the world with George Floyd, BLM protests etc the authorities are more likely to come down harder on racism than they did 8 years ago. Thought that was obvious really.

I agree, that just shows up the FA for what they are though. If their policies are dictated by climate instead of what is right it just shows how you corrupt they are. 10 years, 8 years or last week shouldn't matter. (In fairness all these other businesses are the same 'oh we just found out about this racism thing, let's release a press statement and pledge some money while still carrying on exactly the same').

Which just shows how badly the football authorities operate. Racism shouldn't be considered worse just because there is more publicity around it now.

I'm surprised nothings been mentioned on that, you'd think he'd be banned as well but then again I don't know how common it is for players families to get abused - I'm guessing a few things get shouted most matches.

It's never been taken seriously enough when punishments are handled out, UEFA still give out £40K fines to clubs when they get found guilty of fans using racist chants. It's a joke how lightly the authorities take it and I don't know why. It's not like a hefty fine and long term ban would be controversial - it would be welcomed by everyone.
